  1. My only complaint about Academy is they do not sell any hand loading supplies.
  2. Is Brandon Pitt your real name? I was a Navy SERE Inst. from 96 to 2000. I know folks in Spokane and please, please tell my your name isnt your screen name. As others have said if you know the processes and events of the school, you wont learn as much and it will detract from the course. Mr. Brooks said it best "Wear comfortable boots". And my pet peeve when I was there, cheap knives. You will be allowed to take some personal items, ie ,boots, knives, flashlight, etc. Anyway I was surprised by the amount of students that would show up for training with a $2 knife, just to have it fall apart or break. Keep your eyes and mind open and your mouth shut.
  3. I thought that same thing, just before I read it it. LOL Great photos and thanks for sharing them.
  4. I just kept thinking that I NEED a 50 BMG. LOL My 375 H&H would put a hurting on them though.
  5. I lived in San Diego for 16 years, thanks to Uncle Sam. I dont know anything about Van Nuys, but do eat some GOOD Mexican food while you are there. Just be warned that once you eat it you WILL be disgusted with what passes for Mexican back here.
  6. The rule of thumb with bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is 10 for 2 and 2 for 10. Meaning if your bleach is 2% then use 10 drops per quart and if your bleach is 10% use 2 drops per quart. As far as mixing sea water with potable water, that is a very bad call. Yes you can decrease the amount of salt in your water in the short term but you will still be speading up dehydration.
  7. The hand pump reverse osmosis pumps are awesome, IF you have lots and lots of water. It has been years since I played with one and if I remember right you will need several(5 or more) gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of pure water and yes you can get pure water from sewage with one. The more contaminated the more water needed to make one gallon. When I was at the Naval SERE school in the late 90's I heard a Dr. from UCSD give a lecture on water. He stated that approx 98% of the worlds water sources are contaminated at their source.
  8. I lived in Waipio from 92 to 96. Island life wasnt for me, but I still listen to Bulaia every so often for a chuckle. LOL Been gone for so long I forgot how to spell it. I guess I should have just said Waipahu LOL
  9. And Bacon, more bacon! Bacon Freak - Gourmet Bacon, Gifts, Snacks, Clothing & Fun
  10. The problem lies with igniting the powder with the primer if the powder is out of the case. As mentioned Les did it on one episode and the powder was rather hard to ignite with the primer being fired. If I remember correctly he kept blasting his powder away with the pressure of the primer. I have started many, many fires with smokeless powder, but I never tried it with the primer. The powder is easy enough to ignite with a spark from the mag block stricker, metal match, etc...
  11. The Ripley's Aquarium is/was posted when the family and I were there a few months ago. You could look through the Carry Probitited board and get a few more places Carry Prohibited Locations
  12. I have no real advice to offer as I have never had any sort of issues like that. But yes by all means call your Uncle and keep up with your situational awareness and keep your house/apartment in lock down and stay armed as much as possible. Good luck.
  13. I love Korean BBQ! I will have to keep that place in mind for when ever I am up that way again. What kimchees did they have? Did they have radish kimchee?
  14. There has been a case here in Cleveland where a home had tornado damage and the owners were staying some where else till the home got repaired and their gun safe was stolen. Let me go look for the article...
  15. Ah the Danger Ranger. LOL I made two deployments on her with HS-14, in 87 and 89. In keeping with the thread and the Danger Ranger "If I said, it must be true" AMCS David L. Stevens, USN ret (dec) He was my Div Chief, a damn good leader and a fine man.
  16. Yes, yes, you did. Now leave with it! But leave all your HEB bacon here. LOL My son had t-ball this afternoon and all the kids were miserable. It was not a fun time today.
  17. This isnt TN but it could make for a good stop on their drive up from Florida, Andersonville, Georgia - Civil War Village I stopped there to check out the International POW museum a few years ago. Very interesting and somber. I hope to get back down there in the near future.
  18. The sweet, beautiful sound of the air conditioner.........
  19. The greatest bumper stick in history was "Leave Buck Alone". There was a time in the mid 90's when you couldn’t drive aroundthe island of Oahu without seeing one. The background was I had some pro gunbumper stickers on my truck and was leaving base (Barbers Point) after work.Just before I got to main gate someone was behind my honking their horn and ingeneral being an ass. He shot around me and got in front of me and stopped inthe road. A Master Chief of rather short stature got out of the car and startingyelling at me, telling me to get those f'ing bumper stickers off my truck. This5 foot nothing Master Chief turned out to be the base Command Master Chief(CMC). Well I pretty much blew him off and told him to talk to my chain ofcommand. LOL Needless to say the next morning I was in front of my commands(HSL-37) CO, XO, CMC, Det Chief, Det MO and Det OIC, all of which was tellingme to remove my bumper stickers. I didn’t and caught hell for it. I wasthreatened with having my base driving privileges revoked, my BAQ and ComRatsrevoked, etc...So I called a company in SoCal and got 500 "Leave BuckAlone" bumper stickers printed up. They were everywhere on that Island.LOL I had Samoan, Tongan and Hawaii friends pass them out, as well as beingpassed around amount the Navy at Barbers and Pearl Harbor. LOL I even sent thebase CMC (the ass causing the trouble) one via guard mail, which DID NOT sitwell with him. LOL About a week went by and I got a call at home from a goodbuddy that worked at Barber Security and he told me what had just taken place. It seems the CMC that was giving me grief was married, with children and was apreacher at a local church over in Ewa. Well as Security was doing their roundsand ensuring Building One was secure and doors locked, had walked in on thesaid CMC performing a little “one on one counseling” with a junior female sailor, naked of course. LOL My whole bumper sticker issue went away that verynext morning. LOL Oh and the bumper sticker in question? Politician’s Love GunControl... yeah it was THAT controversial. LOL
  20. You wife has excellent taste.
  21. I was at FASO from 96 to 99. We were out of NASNI and went TAD to the remote training sight.
  22. When I was in my mid to late 20's I was stationed at the Naval SERE school in CA. I lived at sea level (ok 28ft) and work up at Warner Springs, elevation around 4,000 ft. It is classified as high chapparal desert and that played havoc on the old snot locker. LOL Constant "farmers blow" to clear out the dust and crap. Right about that time my nasal hair started growing, I'd get one sticking out every so often and I would just grab and yank. After a while I sort of got use to it and carried on. Fast forward 15 years and here I am with a trimmer and it seems like every other day I have to go at it. And dont get me started on ear hair. I was 17 years old in boot camp and was instructed to shave my ears on an uniform inspection, and that hasnt gotten any better over the years either. ;(
