You folks have it all wrong and I am surprised robbieg19 missed it being a certified mechanic and all. Its part of this, http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=54 Its used to clean the wiper blade sharpener. :)

Cool to look at, but its not for me. My 375 H&H hurts enough to satisfy my morbid desire to injure my self. :)

No worries, as I am sure there are alot of Navy and Marine folks would like to have a "talk" with me. Not long after my posted story happened, I rotated up to the RTL portion of SERE training. Lets just say that I doubt the "authorized harassment techniques" won me many friends. LOL

Since it seems that the Army is the majority here I feel the Navy should make an appearance. LOL Here's a story I posted on another thread on the Knife board. From 1997 to 2000 I was lucky enough to get orders to SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) where I spent my first two years as a Field Instructor. Basically we taught the survival and evasion phases of training. It was fun and I had a blast there doing that. So I was there for a year and a half and it was winter 98. Without giving too much of the training away let’s just say I was playing a role in civilian clothes walking around in the middle of the night. On the training course (Remote Training Site Warner Springs) there is no live ammo, period. As we moved through Fall and into Winter there had been reports of mountain lions in the area. Earlier that day the coordinator had passed the word that a mountain lion had been seen in the Northern area where we train. So as I walk around all night I have the mountain lion in the back of my head. As I said I am in civilian clothes, but I do have a rifle, an M-14 with 100 rounds of blanks. I have my Mk-3 Mod O issued knife and a 2 cell mag light. I am walking South in the San Luis Rey River, its winter so there is some water flowing but not much. At this time it’s just a small stream. I start hearing a bit of noise in front of me, maybe a 100 meters out. I am out there to perform a role, and one of those roles is suppression. I wasn’t the OPFOR (opposition force) so I am not supposed to engage the students. As I quietly work my way to the noise, please keep in mind this is about 0230 on a moonless night, I get maybe 30 meters out and stop. I am trying to pin point the noise as I obviously can’t see anything. I slowly creep up to where I am about 10 meters from the noise and at that point I realize the noise isn’t on the ground! My first thought was oh $hit, mountain lion. I am standing there in the middle of the night with 20 pounds of useless junk (M-14 and blanks). I just slowly ease the rifle to the ground, grab the mag light with my left hand and draw out the Mk-3 with my right. About the time I get the mag light up to head level and the Mk-3 in front of my chest it sounded like all hell was coming at me from the trees in front of me. I hit the light and thought my heart blew up! Something was coming down at me from a tree that I thought was 10 meters, but it was more like 5 meters. After what seemed like 15 or 20 seconds after my light came on illuminated the “object†coming at me and my mind realizing what was happening and actually identifying the object as a turkey. After the adrenalin dump, I just stood there as the turkey landed in front of me and ran off to my right. There I was preparing to go toe to toe with a big cat, and most likely lose, and a freaking turkey almost blew my heart out and caused me to defecate myself. I did learn that an M-14 is heavy and useless unless you actually have ammo and a Mk-3 would be a poor choice to wrestle a mountain lion.

That is a beautiful 99 Greg! I have shot ammo from WW1 before and it fired as advertised. However in hindsite, I should have kept it as it was original 303 Brit in the origianl package. Oh well, no need crying over spent ammo. LOL

Very cool! Just got to love it when good things happen for you.

If you feel a need to branch out you could make some of these whistles. http://www.instructables.com/id/223-Survival-Whistle/ I made a few for my kid and his friends. Then it snow balled. LOL I have made probably close to 100 of them so far and have more sitting on my bench ready to assemble. Granted I didnt not spend much time on polishing mine, I just threw them in the tumbler. And I didnt expend any effort on cleaning up the business end, I just put heat shrink over it to keep kids lips off the solder. I sent two to a member here that has some sound measuring equipment and he said the were at 107 and 110 decibels. The difference was most likely due to me not positioning the "reed" correctly.

Veterans in danger of losing their rights...
buck1032 replied to KaNuckles's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I just had this conversation with a friend. While the article should be a little alarming, it isnt anything new. That sort of stuff has been coming down the pike since the mid 90's. I was on active duty when I first learned/heard of it. What really concerns me is the ability of the DOD and VA to strip members and veterans rights without due process. -
Awesome, you are a teacher! I have two cousins teaching at my son’s school and a sister in law that also teaches. Not a profession I would want these days. I spend 20 plus hours a week at my son’s school. I am a volunteer parent, and as the only male volunteer I have been asked to participate in a lot of my son’s school functions. I make copies; I sharpen their scissors and kitchen knives. I have repaired doors, as the custodian is usually running around trying to do everything else. I have fixed their paper cutters and installed cabinets. Today I get to bring a desk home and repair the casters. I do try to avoid actual face time with classes. As I feel that parent interruptions in the class room just add more stress to the teachers. I justify that by saying that I taught in the Navy for three years and having someone interrupt my class was the worst thing to happen. When a teachers asks me to assist in a class I do. There is a lot wrong with schools these days, but there is also a lot going right. As you well know the biggest problem I see is the lack of parent participation and support. Then there is the laundry list of “stuff†you have to do besides teach. And let’s not even get into the lesson material you are required to teach. LOL

I had a cruise like that one once... It was onboard the USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37). We too were dead in the water, but what really sucked for us was we were about 15 NM off the coast of North Korea. That was the longest six hours of my life. LOL So DIW on a luxury cruise line? Sounds fun to me. LOL

Very true, and very important point that the education system will not let kids learn these days. So obviously you didnt take your pill today ;).

Casting bullets, a cautionary tale.
buck1032 replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I was not in any way trying to say that someone should not cast. I put my casting stuff away when I moved back here in 05. I just felt that I didnt need to cast at that time. I do agree with Dolomite, in that it is a fun and enjoyable way to add more time into the shooting sports. And like he said if the proper percautions are taken it can be done safely. -

Wow, very scary stuff. And a huge Thank You for sharing your story for us to learn from. I havent cast if a few years and dont really plan to start up again unless I actually have to. I still have a lot of lead and my gear in case that need does come about I will have to remember your lessons learned. -
I was beating feet back to TN last April on my motorcycle, trying to make my brothers funeral. I didnt want to attend but to keep peace in the family I decided to. Anyway, when I had packed up in the hotel that morning I had packed my vest. About mid day I stopped for gas and to get ice for the cooler that I had 10 pounds of HEB bacon in. :) So I take off my jacket and hit the head. As I was getting a bag of ice an older gent said I needed to get a better holster as I was printing very bad. I just told him that I usually have a vest on, but in my haste to get to TN for my brothers funeral I packed the vest. I had my XD with the XD gear holster at the 3 o'clock. Sitting on a motorcycle for 12 plus hours a day, I dont usually concern myself if my side arm happens to get exposed while riding. Yes I will pull my shirt down if I think it shows, but I dont sweat it. Anyway, the old guy back tracked, apologized and went on his way. LOL

Sad, but closer to the truth than I would like to admit. I will say that when I retired in 05 every ribbon and medal I had at that time was US made. Probably not the case these days. LOL

My 6 y/o son needs his clothes treated as well as just about anything he touches. LOL

Spots pictures were up, but today when I checked in they were gone, hence my reply in post #7. I got to thinking that my comments in post #5 might have bee ntaken the wrong way.

Spots, If my post, in jest, upset or offened you I do apologize. I said it in good fun and in good faith that you would see it as humor.

Dont worry, you are a Marine so you are suppose to be ugly! ;) (said the Sailor) LOL

To make your blades last much longer, soak the head in alcohol (not the drinking stuff, isopropyl) after each use for a minute or two. I too use the Mach 3 and I usually get 3 to 4 months out of a single head. So instead of using a four pack a month, I now use a four pack a year.

An apology is in order! David needs to apologize to himself for wasteing time on said dispute.

I have spent a lot of time out in the woods and mountains of SoCal and would have loved to have one on those cold, wet, and snowing days. Thses days I am just too lazy to go out in that sort of weather. Either way, it is an awesome piece of personal protection!

I refuse to Google that one! LOL
