Openin weekend I'll be taking the second from the right. 308 Marlin Express then the one to the left of that a Sears Model 45 J.C.Higgins in 35 Rem. then if I manage some woods hunting the far left Henry 44 Mag, or the far right Glenfield 30-30 These will be first as I've only had them for a short while and never killed anything with any of them. Then the trusty Marlin 444. As you can see all leverguns this year. Most of my hunting will be from a hunting house as I'm in a leg cast til the 16th of Dec. Oh and I have a couple Ruger handguns that will also be carried.http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/sidinslinger/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/20150928_141803-1_zps3nva0xpl.jpg~original

Only saw one small doe yesterday morn but it was in an all out sprint, then I saw why. Some small white dog about 35, 40 yds behind. This dog messed me up a couple times last year. :yuck: :wall: Late in the afternoon saw another doe about 120 to 130 yds. And shortly before 5 had a small buck, antlers barely above the ears, he was probably 60 yds. Could've shot him but decided to pass. Didn't go this morn, but will try again here in a little while. Good luck to ya all. Ruger sorry ya missed, better luck next time.

Well guess I went to bed to early, as I am awake and can't seem to go back to sleep. Anyway 54 cal Renegade ready, and takin my 1858 44 cal revolver just in case one might give me a closeup shot. Guess I'll go make coffee and a little breakfast. Shouldn't have any trouble get out early enough, lol. Good luck to everyone huntin this weekend. Can't wait to see some pics. of y'alls harvest. Be safe and keep ya powder dry. RP

Smoked sausage and other things to do with deer.
Sidinman replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Yes leave it in the wax paper. As for the fat I never add any fat. The ground I use is what I got straight from my processor. I'm pretty sure he adds some when they grind it. Last year I got some of the venison made into reg. sausage, but we weren't all that crazy about it. So the last few times I've made this sausage I used one lb. of reg. ground, & one lb. of that sausage. It seem to make little difference. Hope that helps. -

Summer Sausage: 2 lbs. ground venison 1/4 tbsp. of salt 1/2 tbsp. of black pepper 1/2 tbsp. of garlic powder 2 tbsp. of mortons tender quick (got to have this as it cures the meat & prevents spoilage or poisoning) 1 tbsp. of whole mustard seed 1 tbsp. of liquid smoke 3/4 cup of water Mix all this up good & separate into 2 egual lumps, then rollinto sausage shapes. Roll the rolls on course black pepper sprinkled onto wax paper. Then roll the rolls up in tin foil & put in refrigerator for 24 hrs. to let the meat cure & seasoning set. After 24 hrs. remove the tin foil & bake (or you can smoke) for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs.at 350 degrees. Let cool & roll in freezer paper, and tape shut. Can be frozen for long term storage or just refrigerated & eaten at your leisure. caution; do not let your hunting buddies have even a little bite, they will eat it all. I've started adding some diced jalapeno's to mine of late, just for a little more spicey. -
I got into reloadin because of a specific cal., ammo was hard to find and expensive as heck, .41 mag. look at the price "if" ya ever see it. Now I load for almost everything I shoot. And not sure if I load to shoot, or shoot so I can load, lol. Besides what a way to spend rainy and/or cold days. I like some odd and hard to find stuff, 35 Rem., 444 Marlin, & 308 MX. Stuff I guarantee ya ain't gonna see at ww, or some of the sporting goods stores, and if you do, ya better have deep pockets. and like Greg said "variety", so for me it just makes more sense. Even 44 mag, 45 Colt I can produce for fraction of the cost of the factory stuff. I have a Lee 4-hole turret, with the discs for all the calibers, and you can run it like a progressive for some handgun calibers, or as a single stage for rifles. I started out with just a few handgun cal. the first couple years, then 223 now every rifle cal. I own. The way prices were the past couple years, and the non existent and unavailability of most I am sure glad I did. The thing about powders are they are not cal. specific, and can be used in the different cal. You can even run "some" of the handgun powders in "some" of your rifles. And like others have said you can load some powder puff loads for cheap practice, or young and new shooters. Or some real thumpers. With a little time & patience's you can make ammo more accurate than factory. As we all know no 2 firearms especially rifles won't shoot the same ammo the same. Well I guess I've pretty much mimicked what everyone else has said. Good luck in your endeavor, and happy shootin.

If you like summer sausage, I have a pretty good recipe. Pretty simple and easy to make. -

Good lookin guns, guys. Sidewinder we've got a few But not a huntable amount

Amen, could buy 'em for around $500, $600 a few years ago. Now they are through the roof

I know, it's still a ways off but. I've been workin up the huntin loads for the up coming seson. So I took a pic. of the rifles that will get an opportunity this year. Now I'm sure alot of you may only a couple of canidates, or a single one. Heck lets see 'em. Left to right. Henry BB 44 mag. will get a chance or two in the woods. 444Marlin, t-4 as some call it, Took a nice doe with this one a couple years ago, on the second day of ownership. 135 yd smackdown. Sears model 45 J.C.Higgins 35 Rem. made by Marlin, hunted this one a little last year, but never scored. then the Marlin Express, its a 308 MX, should be nice in a couple of the cutovers, or open spaces. And an ole Glenfield 30-30. No bolt actions this year for me, will be a few Ruger revolvers in the mix though Well there ya go. Lets see what you'll be usin.http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/sidinslinger/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/20150928_141803_zpsjdnv6yxo.jpg~original

Love that Cowboy, Congrats. I picked up a used Henry in 44 mag. back in the spring. A very smooth action and accurate. Got a Puma/Rossi 357, love 'em both. Maybe one of these days I'll get a 1894 Marlin, lookin for one in 41 mag. But they are some kinda pricey. Talked to the people at Henry about a month ago. They are saying that just maybe early next year they make a small run of 41's. Ifn they do I'll have one more Henry. Here's a pic. of my two pistol caliber rifles. <a href="http://s12.photobucket.com/user/sidinslinger/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-09/20150907_094806_zpsqqghafyt.jpg.html"

Caster I'm lookin fer one as we type. I have the Lyman 358315, use it for practice. Bought a couple hundred of the 35-200's from a fella over on castboolits last year. Runnin a little low. Been trying to find a used mold. But always seem to be a day late. Guess I'll have to break down and buy a new one.

Here's a couple more pics. and one of a target from a day ago. The target is at 50 yds. using a 200gr. lead pill and 24.0 grs of IMR4198, in the first six shots. and the last 2 at top were 24.5 grs. Then 2 at the bottom were the first after getting it on paper then the 4 in the middle were after another slight adjustment of the rear sight.http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/sidinslinger/Mobile%20Uploads/20150710_094624_zpscrjt60gz.jpg~originalhttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/sidinslinger/Mobile%20Uploads/20150711_134216_zps7ok0kesh.jpg~originalhttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a203/sidinslinger/Mobile%20Uploads/20150710_092035_zpsrhcymco2.jpg~original
