  1. I traded my XDm40 for a Sig P-238.  I have shot a lot of .380 pocket rockets but this one stands out as uber reliable, fun to shoot and very accurate. The only problem is the single action. It's like carrying tiny 1911. I don't put it my pants pocket but carry it IWB or in my vest pocket. I don't like carrying in my pants pocket.
  2. This is one of the Black Bears that are growing in the lowlands of Eastern North Carolina, known locally as "Down East". The farmers Down East have stopped growing tobacco and are growing food crops. The weather is so mild that the bears don't hibernate. This portly Black Bear was sitting in a cornfield eating roast sneers. The world record Black Bear is from Hyde County NC at around 880lbs. They killed bigger bear who weighted in at over 900lbs but he had been feeding on hog carcasses from a hog farm, so the state people figured he was baited and disqualified him. In 1974 there were 2000 Black Bears "Down East" today there are 20,000. I don't hunt bear, their meat is too black. has a gamey taste. ,
  3. Buy one of each and sell the one you like least. I own a Glock 19.  All the things the haters say about it is true.  I carry it every day and keep it close at night. It's the pistol you want to have in your hands, God help you, if you ever need one. The M&P is also a fine handgun.
  4. You can't go wrong with a Glock. They are simple, reliable and effective.
  5. Did anyone ever read "Lord of the Flies."? Kids, left unsupervised, can be the meanest animals on earth.
  6. I have been reading and studying the history of the Civil War all of my life and I have barely scratched the surface. Now people who know little about our history are trying to rewrite it to make the South look bad. They want to change the wording on "The 1850 Compromise." to read "The Appeasement of 1850". They want to remove the word "Plantation" and call it a "Slave Camp". If you really want to know about that war and US History, you got to dig. You may be surprised at the brutality of that war and the mercy and compassion. I hope our future generations will take the time to learn about our proud heritage as well as our sins. I can understand people wanting to take the Battle Flag down from public buildings but the memory of our young men and boys who fought deserve a place in our war memorials, battlefields and cemeteries. That is where I will make my stand and "I don't need no pardon for anything I done." TRIVIA: After the ferocious and bloody battle for Shuri Castle on Okinawa in 1945 United States Troops raised the Confederate Battle Flag on the top. Here it is in Viet Nam. It is still flying today on America's battlefields.
  7.     You cannot say that because a person has a couple of beers that they forfeit their right to defend themselves.  That just ain't right. You can say that you cannot carry a handgun in public after you have had a couple of beers. So you have to answer one question (do you feel lucky?) or...Is there anything at Lowes that you need bad enough to risk getting busted over? I don't drink often, but when I do, I stay on the porch. in my boxer shorts, with my western leather rig, singing "Rippy I aye Ki aye!" Which is why I don't drink often....
  8. I have posted Bob Bowen's photographs before and have gotten positive responses. He just got back from Alaska after photographing these Brown Bears. Bob is a very humble man and a gifted photographer. He will wait for hours to get the right shot. This photograph below makes me smile. Below is the link to the rest of his photographs. He is not a professional photographer. https://rdbowen.smugmug.com/Nature
  9. I have tried a lot of different carry methods and positions. I have a sack full of holsters that I never use any more. I have never tried appendix carry. My stomach muscles are too large. If it works for you then it's no a bad way to carry. It's easy to access and easy to protect (retain). I carry IWB at 3 o'clock with a BUG inside my vest or in my pocket.
  10. I tried the Glock 36. It wasn't a bad pistol but it had everything you hate about a Glock with a small magazine capacity. That's not why I sold it. It would pinch a blood blister on my pinky finger every time I shot it. The space between the magazine and grip would snap shut on recoil and that's where my pinky was. When I compared it to the Glock 19, it was a no brainer. I traded it for a Glock 19. If you want a small Glock in 45acp get the Glock 30. The theory being, "If you can only carry 8 rounds, carry a 1911" You get a much better grip and trigger.
  11. Loud noises scare me.............
  12. I have kayaked the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon from Ramsey's Cascades down. I have also kayaked Big Creek. I was in an eddy on Big Creek once and a trout jumped out of the water, bounced off my spray skirt and back into the creek. Those are some beautiful places.
  13. I have a Glock 19 Gen4. Everything they have said about it 1s true. The grip angle is weird. The grip is like holding a 2 x4. The trigger sucks and it's ugly. It is the pistol I keep by my bed and the one I train with. It is 100% reliable and accurate and it's light enough to carry often.
  14. I have a Henry Big Boy in .357 with a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in the same caliber. They are both a hoot to shoot. I think a .327 magnum rifle would do a lot for the .327 magnum round. We're talking in excess of 2100fps with a 100 gr bullet gives a muzzle energy of somewhere round 950 ft/lbs. Varmints beware!
  15. What a find! Some people consider the Panther to be the best tank of WWII because of the balance of fire power, armor and mobility. It transmission was the weak link. It was designed for a much lighter vehicle. The French used captured Mark Vs after the war until they could build their own tanks.
  16. Hallelujah! He is risen!
  17. I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. It has never failed to fire.  It's ugly, heavy, crudely stamped out of cheap metal and it will slap your face silly. It is also tons of fun to shoot and is surprisingly accurate. To clean it, I just ream out the bore. You'll figure out a solution for the face slapping, I did.
  18. Nice boat too.
  19. There are some people who believe that anything less than a 105mm howitzer is too small for personal protection. I do understand where they are coming from. The .380 with a cross on it? Can you say Vampire Killer? Dip it in garlic and holy water.
  20. If you fire 6000 rounds out of a Kel-Tec then you got your money's worth.  They would probably send you a new barrel.
  21. I didn't say the M-16 wasn't a deadly rifle. I'm saying the same thing you said. It was designed to be light, low recoil with smaller lighter ammo so the soldier could carry more.
  22. "to kill massive amounts of people very quickly."  Preaching to the choir....   This is the propaganda that the anti-gun people are spewing all over the media. First of all they are talking about the M-16. The AR-15 is a semi-automatic version not used by the military. Most importantly, the M-16 was NOT DESIGNED TO KILL! It was designed to save soldier's lives and win battles. The M-14 was designed to kill. They didn't care how heavy it was or how fierce the recoil was or how heavy the 7.62 ammo was. They just wanted a rifle that would deliver 5000 ft/lbs of muzzle energy and be accurate up to 800 yards.  The M-16 was the first rifle in U.S  history designed with the soldier in mind. It was light weight, low recoil with lighter smaller rounds so you could carry more ammo. It was designed to cover 0-300 yards. We have other weapons that will reach out to 800 yards. So to say that the AR-15 was designed to kill is just  wrong. It is the son of a rifle that was designed to save lives and win battles.
  23. Maybe if people are spending their money on Green Tips they'll stop buying 22LR.
  24.   You have good taste dude. Those are three fine handguns. You have concealed carry covered and home defense. One of my favorite handguns to shoot is the .357 magnum version of the Ruger Bisley Vaquero. It is as accurate as any pistol I own. It's heavy enough to absorb the recoil of hot loads, so I can shoot it all day and I had to get a nice Cheyenne western rig for it.
