    Is it just me?

You will never have trouble finding ammo. Walmart always seem to have plenty of .40. I have a XDm in .40 and don't find it snappy at all.
  2. You will need to clean the cylinder pin. The ejector rod will unscrew, reverse thread (Small channel locks), There are three springs in the cylinder. One comes out with the rod, the second comes out before the locking pin and the third on stays in. If the center pin gets dirty it will get stuck in the "in" position. If this happens the cylinder will not lock up and the gun will not fire. The center pin must be clean so it sticks out and latches into the frame. Unsrew the ejector rod, tip it so that the center pin spring falls out, push the center pin out, then clean with solvent and a pipe cleaner. Check for corrosion on damage. Then reinstall. I have an M85UL and this is one of the problems I have. It is easy enough to fix rather than sending it back for warrenty repairs. Other than that and the sloppy cylinder, my M85 is an good revolver. I put a crimson trace laser grip on it and shoot 125gr SJHP +P ammo. It will put 5, center mass, at 21 feet.
  3. 1941. If they had more Slim Pickens scenes in that movie, it would have been a better movie. Slim Pickens stole that movie. He was hilarious.
  4. Thanks Mike.357. I wish I knew how to post videos like that. That scene scared the living daylights out of eveybody in the world. It's hard to make kids today understand how close we came to an atomic war. When I was in the first grade we had atom bomb drills at school. We all had fall-out shelters in our basements with canned food and water. Even as a first grader we knew that if the Russians attacked the US that we would be doomed. We would stand around the playground and talk about where the bombs would fall. Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Fort Cambell, Benning, Bragg would all be ashes. Hell of a thing for 6 year olds to be talking about.
  5. Dad Gum Trigem! Did you write that dissertation! That was very well written. You eliminated many of the myths about stopping power and stuck to the facts. I have nothing to add to that. You should get that published. You should omit those pornographic pictures. Oh wait! That ain't porn....my bad.
  6. I was finally able to shoot my DB380 with no failures last Saturday. I was shooting PMC Starfire and Cor Bon Powerballs. CA-CHING! I shot 3 magazines, rapid fire. 18 rounds, ~$20. The pistol has been having problems extracting the spent casings out of the barrel. The people at Diamondback suggested I stop shooting cheap target loads and stick to personal defense loads. It has never failed with Cor-Bon Powerballs and Starfires. The Powerballs are awesome. I went to the range again yesterday and fired 24 rounds as fast as I could, with no failures. I will continue to test this pistol with different types of ammo. So far Cor-Bon Powerballs, PMC Starfires are good. American Eagle target loads: not good.
  7. I don't think the bad guys would know the difference. The 40 has good ballistics. I don't carry a .40 but it has nothing to do with stopping power. I try to keep it simple so I own mostly .45acp, .357/38sp and .22s. I do have an XDm .40 but almost never shoot it. And of course my DB380.
  8. "I've got no problem going back to prison." WHAAAHAHA. I have to remember that one!
  9. Tell her you really like him and you want to take him hunting and fishing. She will break up with him within a week. If you tell her you hate him watch out.
  10. Great song! I did some work out at Johnny Cash's Home on Old Hickory lake back in the early 80s. He came out and talked to us for a minute or two.
  11. I was wonder if anyone could recommend this web site for purchasing ammo. Thanks.

    GunsAmerica.com

I usually look at Davidson's to get a good price, then haggle with my local gun shop to beat it.

    Name it?

I call my 1911 "Thumber" and my .357 "Maggy".
  14. I usually go to the range once a month. I'll shoot 100 rounds or so thru my seld defense pistols and then plink with my .22s. I like to have a theme when I go. All revolver day. All 45acp day. Crimson trace day, All carry pistols day. Rimfire day. Sometimes I just bring my 40 and shoot it sideways (Thug Day). I just shot handguns. I got rifles and shotguns down pretty well but handguns, not so well.
  15. That will strike fear into any bad guy. The sight of a big wheel gun pointed at you is terrifying. Good choice! The .357 is King.
  16. The factory grips were not selected for target shooting. They were selected for functionality. A big bulcky grip feels nice in the hand but when seconds count, you want a smaller grip that you can grab without thinking. The SP101 grip was selected for that purpose. I truely think that the SP-101 grip will serve you well when seconds count. Ruger has been making pistols for a long time.
  17. Thanks for the feedback guys. It doesn't nessessarily have to be outside the waste ban. I just need it to ride high enough so that my vest conceals it and that it doesn't poke out and "print". I am making a list of all ya'll's recommendations so I can search'em out on the internet.
  18. I would love to carry my 1911 concealed but I haven't had any luck finding a holster. I bought a shoulder holster but it is a cheap POS and is awkward at best. I have a paddle holster but it ain't concealable. ANY recomendations that will allow me to carry my beloved 1911, "Thumper", concealed will be greatly appreciated. I would like to carry it outside the waste ban high on my strong side.
  19. Remington model 870 pump or model 1100 auto. You can't go wrong. Browning Belgium's are outstanding if you can find one. If you are shooting clays then get one of them high dollar Italian over and unders.
  20. Hunting: You can learn to do it in a day, but it would take a lifetime to master.
  21. I am reading a book called "Sea Of Thunder" about Adm. William "Bull" Halsey, Cdr. Ernest Evans, Adm. Takeo Kurita and Adm. Matome Ugaki. Great book! The US Navy today dominates every ocean in the world. They are the most powerful force ever created by man. God bless'em. Go Navy. (My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment)
  22. My father was in Manila with MacAurther when they dropped the bomb. He was an 19 year old rifleman in the infantry. He always felt that if we hadn't dropped the bombs, he would have never made it home alive.
  23. The Japanese killed 250,000 Chinese as reprisal for the Doolittle Raid. Then of course there is the Rape of Nanking where Japanese officers made bets on who could lop off the most heads with their swords. The Japanese systematically raped and murdered tens of thousands of women and children. Over 140,000 died in Nanking. Of course don't ever forget the Bataan Death March. Or the hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Phillipines, Burma, China, Viet Nam, Korea and Manchuria that were slaughtered and raped. Or the Korean women who were enslaved and forced in to prostitution as "Comfort Girls" for the Jap army and navy. Or what about the way the Japs treated POWs? Using American POWs in experiments with chemical weapons or just starving them to death. The Japanese made the Nazis look like Boy Scouts. The Nazis killed 6 million jews, homosexuals, gypsies, mentally handicapped and so on. The Japanese were worse than that. If we had not dropped the bomb on Hirsoshima and Nagasaki and invaded Japan, they would have lost many times more civilians than they did. Plus many young American men would have died....by the tens of thousands. The bomb was the right thing to do at the time. I have no problem with guilt about nuking the Japs.
