  1. Daisey BB gun and 210 acres of woodlands and pastures. I was 8 years old.
  2. After my last post and 4 trips to the range my BD380 has not failed. I'm not having to grip it any different now or anything. I'm even shooting cheap target ammo in it now. Well it did fail once. I let a guy shoot it who hasn't been shooting long and he stuck his thumb up. His thumb is OK, just a flesh wound. The empty casing did not eject. The next week he was shooting his XD-45 and stuck his thumb up, now that must have hurt. The only thing I did to my little DB380 is polish the feed ramp. I carry it now either as a primary or BUG. I'm carrying Cor-Bon Powerballs in it.
  3. I own a couple of Glocks (G19, G36) and a couple of XDs (XD-45 and XDm-40). All four guns are reliable enough to trust my life on. The triggers on the XDs are better than the Glocks, but I do like the Glocks. I was once told that LEOs carry Glocks because they can't afford H&Ks. I have shot a few H&Ks and frankly, I was disappointed. I was expecting too much I guess.
  4. I tell ya guys. The next time I go to the range I will ask about the shooting in the dark drill they do. It's not the first time I've seen this but I have never felt it right to interrupt the class asking questions. It was a lot of fun and it helped me to realize that I can't hit nothin' in the dark. I also know know that muzzle flash will light up a room and give you a glimpse of what is going on. I do understand the safety aspects of shooting in the dark, but if you do know what is behind the target and some BG is shooting at you and you have no night sights or flash light....If this ever happens I'll no I'm screwed.
  5. When I'm working second shift I'll go to the indoor shooting range during the week when it's not crowded. Sometimes there are LEOs in there qualifying. One of the things they have to do is shoot in the dark at targets 21 feet away. The instructor asked me if I minded and I said go ahead. So with the lights out it is pitch black in there. The only way to see the target is with your own muzzle flash. The muzzle flash will give you a snap shot of what your sights looked like, then you have to try and correct the sights for the next shot. I don't know how the other guys did but at 21 feet I fired 6 times and did not hit the silhouette that I could tell. Then they turned on a blue strobe light and shot a few rounds. Then they were allowed to use their flash lights to shoot a few more. I was shooting with them, shot for shot. The instructor complimented me on my shooting. My pattern was tighter than any of those guys. I ain't that good. At 21 feet all my rounds would have fit inside a paper plate accept for the six I fired in the dark.
  6. My wife gets like that sometimes too. "You're not carrying that gun to your grandaughters birthday party! there will be CHILDREN there!" Boy I turned red and was about to say something stupid until I remembered my training. I simply said, "Yes and those children and us will be well protected." I mean WTF! Women expect us to protect them but they don't want us to use a gun. I ain't getting in to a fist fight with a guy packing heat. I can't protect her if I'm dead! SOBDMF#$%&.........the pipes...listen to the pipes.........
  7. J.C. Higgins bolt action single shot from 1935. The most accurate 22 I have ever shot. Ruger Mark III Hunter Ruger Single Six 6.5" Ruger Single Six 9.5"
  8. Cowboy, You can hardly go wrong with a Glock 19. Everyone has their favorite pistol but the Glock 19 is the gold standard of pistols. If you decide in the future that you want something else, the Glock 19 will sell quickly and you'll get a good price. I own Glock 19 and it's a great little gun. Accurate, reliable and fast shootin'. Since you are a Phillipino Cowboy you might want to get an old fashion six shooter. They make them in the 30 caliber carbine round. The 30 caliber carbine was the preffered weapon of the brave, tough, hard fighting Phillipine soldiers that drove the Japanese out during World War Two. My father said that "Pound for pound the Phillipine soldier was the toughest soldier I ever saw." He fought the Japs, North Koreans and the Red Chinese.
  9. If it is any help. The Tanto style blade has become my favorite. I use one at work and play. The tanto has two edges that are flat. It makes it very easy to sharpen and hone. It has two points. The sharp point at the end and a wide angled point between the two edges. For me, it's the most versatile blade. I do not like serrated edges unless it's a steak knife.
  10. I sometimes carry a Chief's Special 3" with a hammer. I like the option of going to single action and making an accurate shot. The hammer catching on ones clothing is a big concern so if you carry a hammer, you must practice. That goes with any handgun you carry but practice you must.
  11. Me too. There is something about a finely crafted and tuned revolver. I have 4 ruger wheel guns and one Smith and Wesson revolver and I find myself leaving the semi-autos at home more and more when I go to the range. I shoot less ammo and have more fun and zero failures. Cleaning them is easier too. That H&R just knocks me out! I want to know how it shoots. I know a fellow who owns six of them NIB from the 1960s. He will not sell one.
  12. Cows. My ringtone is cows mooing. It's called my "Cow Phone".
  13. The say that these pistols are made in New York state. By Americans no less! I know I want one.
  14. I had a little guy put a whoppin on me when I was young. He had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was finally able to take him to the ground and end the fight by grabbing is nuts and squeezing. I was beat up pretty good. We became friends after that.
  15. I didn't think there were dudes bigger than you. 6'6" 285? God bless your mother, she must have stayed in the kitchen the whole time you were growing up trying to keep you fed.
  16. One of you guys says the Glock 27 is the best and the other says it's the worst! That just goes to show you that one man's poison is another man's cure.
  17. Mikhail Ryabko is an ex-Russian miltary officer and politician. He was a monster when he was young. The dude knows how to punch a man in the solar plexis. When the young guy is punching that dude in the stomach, he's punching muscle. When Mikhail punched him, he punches him right in the solar plexis in a slightly downward punch, with that massive fist. Devistating! He reminds me of Steven Seagal only not as fat.
  18. I saw a cougar on I-40 in 1978, in Tennessee. Near Cookville, late at night.
  19. The NRA is not part of the Republican party. It is important that they make that clear. If the NRA became just another pawn of the Republican party or the Democratic party for that matter, it would loose it's status as a cival rights organization. It would be the end of the NRA. I don't support everything the NRA does but I am and will continue to support them as a whole.
  20. It depends on the way you define "TOUGH". I would rather fight a 6'6" 285lb man than a little wirey short guy. Big guys are slooooow and unless you are fighting in a phone booth big guys are no problem. PLUS if a big guy does hit you, you won't feel a thing until you wake up. Little dudes hurt. They are fast, small targets and their punches won't knock you out, so you get to feel the pain. To me "tough" has nothing to do with fighting or physical prowess. The toughest men I have ever met were not athletes or Kung Fu experts.
  21. Wisdom can be accepted or rejected. I think the old man has a valid point. He is wise listen to him. I ain't say everybody go out and buy a Glock but surely you can listen to the advice of an 85 year old Marine. The pistol I don't have locked in the safe and keep by my bedside, is a Glock. The Austrian Brick.
  22. Beside being "Liberal douchebags" they are my buddies. They have risked their lives to save me and I have done the same to them. We are a team, we have mutual respect for each other and we have some great campfire conversations. If I was so closed minded that I hated all liberals I would be a family outcast. God, Family, Country in that order.
  23. YouTube - I am voting Republican because...Vote on November 2, 2010 This is the kind of I have to put up with from my liberal douchbag canoe buddies. I replied to this by informing the guy of my definition of propaganda. PROPAGANDA: Propaganda is like bull:poop: covered in whipped cream with a cherry on top. As long as you don't dig too deep, it's pretty good.
  24. Worst purchases: You get what you pay for.............. Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm (jam-o-matic). Gave it away for free. Taurus M85UL (jam-o-matic) A wheel gun jams? Traded for a Glock 19 Best purchases: XD-45 Has never failed and is very accurate with a great trigger for a DAO. Colt Government 1911. Hasn't jammed since the first day. Eats anything and spits it out on target. Ruger Super Single Six with 9.5" barrel. It's like shooting a 22 rifle it's so accurate.
  25. You won't need one at the Jack Daniels distillery but I would not go anywhere near Monteagle unarmed...........just kidding. My prefferance is George Dickle. It has a nice woody flavor without the peppery after taste of Jack Daniels. I think it's their cold filtering. Jack Daniels is the largest exporter in the US. People all over the world drink Jack. People in Tennessee drink either one or the other. Sometimes I go places unarmed but not often.
