Excellent shots. In sometimes hunting with a camera works better than hunting with a bow or gun. You don't bring home any meat but you don't have to dress out any either.

I agree that what we really need is better educated children. I have a problem, not with teachers salaries, not with unions but with this "No Child Left Behind" policy. I the real world slow runners get left behind by fast runners. Dumb kids get left behind by smart kids. I am no genious. I wasn't the smartest kid in school but I do have other traits that have served me well. Instead of going to Vanderbuilt, I went to Nashville State Technical Institute. Instead of being a brain surgeon, I work on Bioreactors. That's just the way it is. Holding the smart kids back until the dumb kids catch up, is stupid. Friday my company got sold to the Japanese! Fuji Films bought us. I guess we'll be doing jump'in jacks every morning. There will be plenty of rice in the break room.........

I have never been a part of a union but blaming unions for the fact that we have lost our competitivness just ain't right. There are other factions involved. Like CEOs giving each other millions, no billions, in bonuses for doing nothing. I think we are all to blame. Unions, big money, all of us. BUT we ain't beaten yet! When we put our minds to it Americans can still work harder and smarter than anyone in the world. Just not cheaper

What gives you the idea that teachers only work for 9 months? You think it's easy teaching a classroom full of 13 year olds in today's politcally correct society? If the people you know that would LOVE to only work 10 hour days then tell them to go to college for 6 years and get a masters degree in education. Then you can get a job teaching screaming young-uns from the ghetto and make less money than a plummer's helper. If they can hack it for 30 years then they can enjoy the $55,000 salary. Starting pay for teachers is much less. I'm tellin' ya dude, teaching is one of the hardest jobs you can imagine. The only good thing about teaching is when your kids are off from school, you are too. It makes it possible for a woman to have a career and still raise children. My wife was a good teacher and a good mother.

Are any of you guys married to a school teacher? My wife taught school for 30 years. She worked 10 hour days and longer. When she retired she was making $55,000 a year. She didn't do it for the money, she did it because she loved teaching. We can hardly go to the mall without some person coming up had saying "Hi Mrs. Carry!" She knows most of them by name. I am proud of her. I would not make it through one day teaching 7th grade science. As for unions. I have never been in a union. They are not big in the south, but I thank the unions for things like: overtime pay, payed vacation, weekends off, the 40 hour work week, child labor laws, health insurance, work place safety and a few more. Are unions more corrupt the CEOs? I don't know. I'm just a simple industrial mechanic who has been lucky enough to make a living all these years by the sweat of my brow, as a blue collar worker. They were so worried about unions moving in to the south that they took good care of us non-union workers and for that I am grateful. I don't know if unions are good or bad. I know right wing commentators say they are bad and left wing radicals say they are good. I don't believe anything those people say.

Crazy Man from Middle Tennessee? I think I know you. Do you live around Wartburg and own a double barrel shotgun?

This was a terrible accident. My prayers go out to the family. Channel 5 news reported this on their nightly news tonight. I have been watching WRAL since Jesse Helmes gave his nightly commentaries in the 1960s. I must say that WRAL is as anti-second ammendment as any TV station in the country. As I listened to their report of this tragic accident I heard them say "Even though he was doing the right thing by checking the safety, the gun still went off." This statment would seem to indicate that no matter what you do, a gun can still fire and kill innocent people. Even if it's just a pellet rifle. I tried to explain to my wife that this was a flawed statement, but like a million people watching TV tonight, she could not comprehend what I was saying. Raleigh second-grader dies after accidental shooting :: WRAL.com Safety is the Alpha and Omega of gun ownership.

She has trouble pulling a double action trigger, even on my silky smooth Model 36. Her only choices are 1) Having a pistol handy that I have racked a round for her. 2) Learning to shoot single action only or 3) Any ideas? PS. I offered to buy her a NAA Black Widow buy she doesn't think a 22mag will stop an attacker. She wants a 44 magnum. "I only want to shoot one time" I think she said. Bless her heart........

This is just too cool! Lewis & Clark Air Rifle
Will Carry replied to E4 No More's topic in Long Guns
Yes. That is very interesting! I read "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose. It is a great book and is a must read for all Americans. Only one reply so far today? Lewis and Clark's scientific expedition is one of the greatest feats in American history. One of the last great explorations. They didn't even know about the Rocky Mountains! It insured our manifest destiny: to have one country from sea to shining sea. -
I have seen no hard data to suggest that magazine springs get weaker if the magazine is left loaded. I have seen data that suggests otherwise. I really don't know but I do rotate my magazines every month or so.

Ruger Mark III Speed Strip Kit by Majestic Arms. Any opinions?
Will Carry replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I finally got my Mark III back together. Their is a notch on the Magazine Safety (a worthless safety feature). This notch fits over the sear. I found a you tube video that explains it. As soon as I get the correct washers, this magazine safety is going into the bag with the loaded chamber indicator (another useless safety feature, a pistol is always loaded.). It seems that the Mark III is a Mark II with extra safety features that nobody asked for plus a different mag release. I did not put the stripper kit on the pistol. I have taken it apart enough now that I could do it in my sleep. The Valquartsen (Farfegnugen) grips are nice. If you have big hands. -
Ruger Mark III Speed Strip Kit by Majestic Arms. Any opinions?
Will Carry replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
Well as I was on my hands and knees under the dining room table with a flash light, looking for a spring and a pin the size of a pencil lead, I realized that I may have made a big mistake. My Majestic Arms speed strip kit came in yesterday. After 5 hours my pistol is still in pieces on the dining room table. At the end of the 5 page instructions there is a photograph of what the hammer, Magazine Safety and Sear are supposed to look like. The photo is blurry and it doesn't show the sear orientation and it doesn't say how the mag safety spring bottom is supposed to be attached. If I can ever get this pistol back together, I won't need a Speed Strip Kit. I have taken this pistol apart and put it back together a dozen times. The bolt will not slide into the breach because the sear isn't in the right location. The Ruger manual shows it one way and the Majestic shows it another. I should have listened to ya'll but NOOOOOO! -
The Battle for Okinawa was the last big battle of WWII and may have been the bloodiest. The Japanese wanted to inflict so many casualties on American forces that they would not dare to invade Japan.....they achieved their objective. I watch the Military Channel all the time, but I just got through reading a book called "Okinawa: The Ultimate Battle" (Great read). So when they had a program on about Okinawa, I had to watch. Don't believe eveything you see on the Military Channel. The documentary was old and a lot of new information has been found since it was made. Here are some things I caught that were incorrect. Military Channel: There wer 120,000 Japanese troops on Okinawa Fact: There were Jap 70,000 infantry 7,000 Jap marines. The Japanese conscripted every Okinawan male from 14 to 45 as laborers/cannon fodder. They had almost no military training and were not envolved in the heaviest fighting. Military Channel: There were 30,000 civilian casualties on Okinawa Fact: Somewhere between 100,000 and 200,000 Military Channel: There were 15,000 US casualties at Okinawa. ??? Facts: I don't know where they got that figure. There were around 12,000 kia, 30,000 wia 30,000 battle fatigue, 30,000 non combat related injuries. 3 crack Marine divisions and 3 veteran infantry divisions were no longer able to fight. Even the few who made it out without injuries were never the same again. Military Channel: The Japanese battleship Yamato was sent on a suicide mission to Okinawa with only enough fuel for a one way trip, just enough to get to Okinawa. Facts: The captain of the Yamato made sure his ship was fully fueled before he set out. All of the young naval cadets were taken off the ship becuase the Japanese navy new they would need competent young men to rebuild Japan after the war. Unlike the Japanese Army, the Jap Navy was not suicidal. The Japanese Navy stopped letting naval cadets go in to combat 14 months before the war ended. They knew they were beaten.

I want a Smith & Wesson model 27 6.5" in blue. The Mona Lisa of handguns. Or a S&W 627 with the 8 round cylinder.
-
I won't sell mine. It's a keeper. It makes shooting hot .357 magnum loads a pleasure. My daughter shoots it and loves it.

I'm having handgun withdrawals. Is there a 12 step program for what I got? I just about have enough money to buy a new handgun but I just don't have any burning desire. I want an old school Smith and Wesson revolver but they are so over priced, maybe I should learn to shoot the pistols I have....... 1) Colt Government 1991A SS 45acp 2) Springfield XD-45 45acp 3) Glock 36 45acp 4) Springfield XDm-40 40s&w 5) Glock 19 9mm 6) Diamondback DB380 .380 7) Ruger Mark III Hunter 22lr 8) Ruger MarK II Bull Barrel 22lr 9) Ruger GP-100 4" SS .357 10) S&W M-36 3" Nickle 38sp 11) Ruger Bisley Vaquero .357 12) Ruger Single Six 9.5" blued 22lr 13) Ruger Single Six 6.5" SS 22lr

I bought a BSA red dot from Midway for $60 (I think) It has seven different sight patterns. a cross, a circle with a dot in it, a cross woth a circle in it, yada yada. The only one I use is the red dot. I works great! Better than a "laser" and I can focus my eyes on it without my glasses. Just remember all you need is a red dot you don't need a lot of extras.

He said "Will, I love you man....but don't ever eat any of those mushrooms again!" That is a true story. My grandmother lived on a farm in Lower Alabama. They had 70 acres of pasture. I was 17 at the time and to this day I have never eaten any more of them mushrooms that grow in cow dung. I never even wanted to... I do understand your point and I guess I can't prove there are no beings living on other planets. It is an infinite impossibility therefor it must be.
-
Those Federal Low Recoil loads are not really that low. I bought some for the exact reason you gave, for my wife. What I finally found were, as has been suggested, 1)Wadcutter target loads and 2) Cowboy action loads. These two have the least recoil of any 38 special load I have tried. I also had some success with some Independence Semi-Wadcutters loads, but I won't be buying any more Independence ammo. Some of the rounds in the box were defective. The primers were sticking out and they caused my revolver to jam when fired.

The way I understand it Christ still exists. He spoke to me once when I was younger. You want to know what he said?

These supposed "aliens from another planet" obviously don't want us to know who they are or they would land on the White House lawn. They have the technology to fold time and travel vast distances, they can sneak in without showing up on radar. SO.......WHY DO THEY ALWAYS TURN ON THEIR LIGHTS AT NIGHT? Don't they know we can see them? Is their some kind of intergallactic FAA that says "All space ships must use their running lights at night when sneaking around Earth". Why don't astronomers ever see UFOs? Why is it always some Goober living in a single wide out in the sticks? Ya know why? Because UFOs don't exist and ya know what else? Neither does Big Foot!

Ruger Mark III Speed Strip Kit by Majestic Arms. Any opinions?
Will Carry replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I ordered it last night from Midway along with one of them Farfegnugen fancy grips. I can break down my Mark II and Mark III but I want to try this strip kit. It says it reduces the trigger pull to 3-3.5lbs? I also bought a new blade for the rear sight. The original is a "V" notch, this one is a square notch.
