Home Defense Question.....
Will Carry replied to Parrothead's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I keep my shotgun with a round chambered. That way all I have to do is release the safety and fire. What happens if you are wounded (shot in the arm) and can't chamber a round but you can squeeze the trigger? What happens if while you are racking a shell you get shot by the bad guy who's gun it already racked? BUT, I would never tell a man how to defend his castle. You do it how you want....... -
FN 5.7 pistol. Somebody tell me why its the best hangun in the world.

This is the pistol the Fort Hood shooter used. I can't understand why it appears on some top ten lists but Walmart don't sell 5.7 ammo, that pretty much ends it for me. -

Yeah I'm just curious why this pistol (FN 7.5) appears on so many lists. It must have something going for it. I know it will penetrate some body armor at closer ranges and I know it's accurate with low recoil. But it's a 40 grain bullet. If you look up Top Ten Pistols on Google, many of them will list the FN 5.7 as the best in the world. It costs less than a Kimber and the ammo is cheaper than the 44 special. So now I'm all exited thinking about buying one of these wonder guns that shoot a rifle cartridge. Then I look at the ballistics of the 5.7 round in this pistols. The standard FN ammo at 1650fps will give you 241 ft/lbs at the muzzle. They make some hotter ammo that will speed it up to 2100fps and give you 391 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. So now I'm wondering WTF? A 38 special will give you 241 Ft/Lbs of energy. My 1911 shooting 45acps will generate 400 ft/lbs witha 180 grain bullet. So what is the big deal with the FN 5.7? I still want one but is it really the best handgun in the world? Who shoots one? Give me some feedback. Davidsons has a :poop:load of them for $1037.

Bless you graycrait! I have broken this pistol down and put it back together so many times now that I can do in just a few seconds. This pistol is more complexed than a 1911 but it's getting easier. I payed way too much for this pistol and the Valquartsen sights were $150, the red dot was $80. Now it's my project pistol. Thanks for the web link.

So I put these Volquartzen fancy grips on my Mark III. It came with a new bolt stop thumb piece (part 43). I had a hard time getting the mag safety and the sear back in correctly. Now the pistol operates fine but the trigger will not reset after each shot. You can reset the trigger with your finger or rack the slide about 1/4" and the trigger will reset. Could it be the trigger pivot retainer (part 30)? Is there anywhere I could get some free help? It ain't rocket science but I ain't no scientist.

I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. The thing shoots great! I have shoot the C-9 also. It went bang every time a squeezed the trigger. Post a report after you shoot it.

What can we learn from this situation?

He was frightened....but he had guts, I'll give him that. Glad he was OK. I'll bet he will do better next time. -
Why I don't go to public ranges on weekends.........................
Will Carry replied to Will Carry's topic in General Chat
I blame the range master. He failed to give her proper training and instruction. When she batted those big brown eyes at him, his legs got weak and he lost his head. She's not gripping the weapon correctly or standing correctly. FOR CHRIST SAKE! she has no eye protection and no ear protection! It is not her fault but many people on You Tube called her an idiot. The idiot is the LEO who's tripping over his tongue to get at this gal. -

Don't feel bad. We all got liberals in the family somewhere. They may even change as they get older.......... -
Ronald Reagan on unions and collective bargaining

That is true and many good teachers quit after a few years to get good paying jobs. That's the way it has always been. For my wife, teaching was great in that whenever our children were off, she was off too. I think a lot of women stay in teaching for that reason. Throwing money at a problem never has worked but saying that teachers are overpaid and have lavish benefits is unfair. If we want our children to be able to compete in the world economy we must invest in getting them the best education possible. It will pay off in spades 20 years from now. If we fail to do so, I hate to think what will happen to our countries future. -
While visiting kin folk in Stockton AL. My cousin Thelma, her boy friend "Big'un", my gay cousin Johnny and me went to the Colonial Inn in Bay Minette. Now I did know Johnny was gay but everybody else in the county did. Thelma was a farm girl with a great body but her boy friend "Big'un" looked like a big fat Curly Howard of the Three Stooges. Big'un helped my change a tire on my VW once. He lifted up the back end for me. So we were sitting at a table and the four guys next to us kept making comments like "****** and queer". Loud enough for us to hear. This 4 guys were big biker looking dudes and I knew they were looking for trouble. Thelma got up to get another pitcher and when she walked by those 4 biker looking dudes one of them stuck out his hand and grabbed Thelma's butt. Things happened fast after that. Thelma turned around and started cussin' this guy out like I ain't never heard. She has a gift for that. The guy made a big mistake. He stood up and started actin' all bad ass. Thelma punched him the stomach and I guess he wasn't expecting that. He double doubled over and Thelma continued to punch him like a punching bag. Big'un picked up our table! Picked it up, walked over to the other three guys, who were gaulkin' and dropped the table on them. Two guys got out from under the table but one guy didn't make it. Big'un jumped up on the upturned table and started jumpin' up and down. Thelma was still beating this guy. Big'un was crushing the guy under the table and I was squared off with the other two. Big'un stopped jumpin' up and down, reached in his pocket for his truck keys, threw them to Johnny and said "Git the truck!". As we were pulling out of the parking lot three police cars were pulling in. The good part is no one was seriously hurt. No guns or knives were used. Those were the good old days.

Ronald Reagan on unions and collective bargaining
Will Carry replied to Will Carry's topic in General Chat
That's true! He busted the air traffic controller union. I forgot about that. Wasn't he the head of the screne actors guild? I've never been in a union, being a southerner and all, but FOX got on my bad side when they started talking about teachers making $51K and getting lavish benefits and all. My mother was a school teacher and my wife is a retired school teacher. I'm a blue collar worker. Those FOX "news" talking heads are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and they are totally out of touch with the working man (and women). They do not speak the Republican party I know. They say what ever it takes to keep their ratings up. They are payed to be conservative. I'm that way by nature. -
Get one of them game cameras set up and take a picture of the perp. Give the picture to the local DA and have him arrested. I had a similar problem and hid a game camera. Some of the local kids were cutting my fence. It worked like a charm. I showed the film to the boys parents. It worked out well. This is my Republican party. Fox "news" has gone too far, they do not speak for me. Ronald Reagan: "Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost. They remind us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. You and I must protect and preserve freedom here or it will not be passed on to our children and it would disappear everywhere in the world. Today the workers in Poland are showing a new generation how high is the price of freedom but also how much it is worth that price." And… “Collective bargaining in the years since has played a major role in America’s economic miracle. Unions represent some of the freest institutions in this land. There are few finer examples of participatory democracy to be found anywhere. Too often, discussion about the labor movement concentrates on disputes, corruption, and strikes. But while these things are headlines, there are thousands of good agreements reached and put into practice every year without a hitch.â€
