  1. The ambush or "Sneak Attack" is the worst case scenario. They came to the false (anti-self defense) conclusion that a concealed weapon will do you no good at all, so why bother. They want the public to think that too.
  2. They don't mind North Carolinians here, at least they ain't run me off yet.
  3. Not me. I have never had to draw my weapon. Brandishing a weapon is a crime here in North Carolina. If I did draw my weapon because of a threat and the act of drawing the weapon ended the threat, that would be OK with me, I don't care what they call it.
  4. There is so much more to hunting than just squeezing the trigger. Some of the most memorable times I have had hunting I didn't shoot my gun. Just sitting in a stand or blind for hours listening and watching or walking through some bottom land alert to everything going on around you. The smells. the sounds...your eyes focused on nothing but seeing everything. That's what I love about hunting.
  5. I like a good gun show and you can find some deals if you work at it. I think the "Gun Show" crazy may have peaked now. When Obama got elected people went on a buying spree. The gun shows in Raleigh had lines 1/4 mile long to get in and the fire marshall was counting people leaving to know how many to let in. The prices went up becuase so many first time gun buyers were there and were paying the premium prices for their first gun. I was in my favorite small town gun store recently and a guy walked in and asked, "Can you sell me a pistol at "Gun Show" prices. The store owner smiled and said "Sure, I can raise the prices by $35 if that's what you want." I have found two little gun stores, Fuquay Gun and Gold in Fuquay Varina NC and Drye's Gun Shop in Bahama NC that I really enjoy going to. Thier prices are competitive and the people are down home and friendly.
  6. Not me. I'm looking at the LC-9 and the DB-9 or other light wieght DAO pocket rockets. I like the idea of a pocket pistol in 9mm. If the recoil is managable, which I think it will be for me and it is reliable, I'll have on in my pocket all the time. I think Sig makes a fine handgun. I know people who swear by them and I know police officers who depend on them every day. I just don't own one.........maybe some day.
  7. The Springfield XD triggers are better than the Glocks. I love my XD-45 and XDm-40 but my Glock 19 is a sweatheart and my Glock 36 is one mean little rascal. I feel blessed to have these fine pistols in my stable. If I had to sell one, it would be the XDm-40. If I had to sell another it would be the Glock 36.
  8. Quality: character with respect to fineness, or grade of excellence. Meaning, he doesn't have any cheap handguns. He has been building 1911s for a couple of years now. He's a decent shot, not as good as me but he has a range in his back yard. He can shoot up to 500 yards so he's more in to rifles than handguns. He goes to Idaho and Montana hunting big game. He killed an elk last year with a bow. It's hanging on the wall in his den now. He's got a walk in gun safe built into the house. Every time he gets a new gun, it's the best he has ever seen. He has a Dokota Arms rifle in .338 Lapua. It cost a few grand. He married money huhuh.
  9. A friend of mine (a real shooter) just bought an FN 5.7. He loves it. He says at 50 yards he can hit a metal pie plate 9 times out of 10 free handed. This guy owns over 40 quality handguns and says this new 5.7 will out shoot any handgun he owns. He has invited me over to shoot it in a few weeks. I will report on it when I get some trigger time on it. I will probably not buy one yet. I don't own 40 handguns. I still need a CZ-75, Beretta 92, Kimber, S&W model 27 and few more common pistols before I start getting fancy.
  10. Camping season in the Southeast ends in June and starts in October. Here is a great a trick that was passed down to me on how to make the best campfire bisquits I've ever had. Take a 1/2 dowl rod and smooth over one end so there are no edges. You can cut a stick and do the same thing. Then get a can of Pillsbury Flakey Bisquits, the kind that pop open when you hit agin the counter. Take the flakey bisquit doe and form it around the end of the stick. Hold the stick over the hot coals of a fire until they are a golden brown. When you take the bisquit off the stick it'll have a hole in it. Fill that hole with some butter and jelly. It beats roasting marshmellows by a mile. It just takes a little longer.
  11. 10mm4me you may have a great idea. But a Hi Point in 45acp. Then save the rest of my money to buy gas with. Are they easy to strip down for cleaning or do you really need to?
  12. Thanks MAV! I'm glad you like your 5.7 Resrvoir Dog! I got a bonus at work this March and after giving my wife half, I have enough left over to buy a quality handgun. I'm thinking H&K, SIG, Colt, Kimber, S&W 27 or maybe a Baretta 92. Then I started seeing the FN 5.7 listed as one of the best in the world. Tha's why I posted this, to get some feedback. Thanks Dog and MAV Here is my wish list. Please feel free to give me your opinions or tell my I'm a moron for blowing good money on an overprice pistol that wouldn't make me a better shot. 1) Baretta Model 92 2) H&K 45 3) Sig 220 4) Smith and Wesson model 27 5) A quality 1911 Colt, Kimber ect.
  13. You ever notice that in Hollywood movies they rack a pump shotgun like it was a Crossman BB gun? The more you rack it the harder it shoots, I recon. AND what is the next thing you do after racking a round? Load another shell in the tube! They never do that in Hollywood! They shoot the shotgun and then wait until they need to shoot again before they rack another round. In Tennessee we rack another round before the spent shell hits the ground. Just remember that a shotgun is a poor choice if you get into a gun fight in a phone booth.
  14. I keep my shotgun with a round chambered. That way all I have to do is release the safety and fire. What happens if you are wounded (shot in the arm) and can't chamber a round but you can squeeze the trigger? What happens if while you are racking a shell you get shot by the bad guy who's gun it already racked? BUT, I would never tell a man how to defend his castle. You do it how you want.......
  15. Chicks dig beards!
  16. This is the pistol the Fort Hood shooter used. I can't understand why it appears on some top ten lists but Walmart don't sell 5.7 ammo, that pretty much ends it for me.
  17. Yeah I'm just curious why this pistol (FN 7.5) appears on so many lists. It must have something going for it. I know it will penetrate some body armor at closer ranges and I know it's accurate with low recoil. But it's a 40 grain bullet. 19. If you look up Top Ten Pistols on Google, many of them will list the FN 5.7 as the best in the world. It costs less than a Kimber and the ammo is cheaper than the 44 special. So now I'm all exited thinking about buying one of these wonder guns that shoot a rifle cartridge. Then I look at the ballistics of the 5.7 round in this pistols. The standard FN ammo at 1650fps will give you 241 ft/lbs at the muzzle. They make some hotter ammo that will speed it up to 2100fps and give you 391 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. So now I'm wondering WTF? A 38 special will give you 241 Ft/Lbs of energy. My 1911 shooting 45acps will generate 400 ft/lbs witha 180 grain bullet. So what is the big deal with the FN 5.7? I still want one but is it really the best handgun in the world? Who shoots one? Give me some feedback. Davidsons has a :poop:load of them for $1037.
  20. Bless you graycrait! I have broken this pistol down and put it back together so many times now that I can do in just a few seconds. This pistol is more complexed than a 1911 but it's getting easier. I payed way too much for this pistol and the Valquartsen sights were $150, the red dot was $80. Now it's my project pistol. Thanks for the web link.
  21. So I put these Volquartzen fancy grips on my Mark III. It came with a new bolt stop thumb piece (part 43). I had a hard time getting the mag safety and the sear back in correctly. Now the pistol operates fine but the trigger will not reset after each shot. You can reset the trigger with your finger or rack the slide about 1/4" and the trigger will reset. Could it be the trigger pivot retainer (part 30)? Is there anywhere I could get some free help? It ain't rocket science but I ain't no scientist.
  22. I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine. The thing shoots great! I have shoot the C-9 also. It went bang every time a squeezed the trigger. Post a report after you shoot it.
  23. He was frightened....but he had guts, I'll give him that. Glad he was OK. I'll bet he will do better next time.
  24. I blame the range master. He failed to give her proper training and instruction. When she batted those big brown eyes at him, his legs got weak and he lost his head. She's not gripping the weapon correctly or standing correctly. FOR CHRIST SAKE! she has no eye protection and no ear protection! It is not her fault but many people on You Tube called her an idiot. The idiot is the LEO who's tripping over his tongue to get at this gal.
