I would definitely have bear spray in Grizzly country and use all of my wood skills too. I plan on taking the wife to Yellowstone next spring but I will have to leave my sidearms at home. I think I can out run her but she's tricky.

I shot a friends Pocket Glock in .357 Sig. The recoil wasn't that bad as I recall. I thought about getting one but decided against it. One less caliber of ammo to keep up with. The local LEOs carry .357 Sig.

Can we carry in national parks yet? Man killed by grizzly at Yellowstone National Park :: WRAL.com I don't hunt grizzlies but if one ever attacked me I would want to at least have a fighting chance.

It is very hard to offend these guys, believe me, I have tried. They are a forgiving bunch of fellows. I myself am a sheep but I have a Good Shepherd.

I understand about the grip issue. My little model 36 Chief's Special (square butt) has one of those "old School" narrow grips. I practice drawing my weapons in front of a mirror and the little J frame is faster than anything I own. I think it's that the narrow grips are easier to grab than the larger, more modern grips. I'm 6'3" and have big mitts too.

"We didn't loose our freedom. We sold it." "Know one is going to give you your freedom. You will have to fight for it and fight to keep it!"

Me too brother! I remember when I was young and could run like the wind and fight like a house on fire but time catches up to us all if we're lucky. I'm not even sure I could defend myself with a handgun very well.....but at least I'd have a chance and if I go down, I'll go down fighting.

It's all good talk and I hope ya'll don't take offense to my jack jawing. The longer I carry a concealed weapon, the less I care about printing. It all depends on where I am going. Unfortunately some of the most dangerous places I go, do not allow concealed carry. That is when you must make a choice. I would never encourage any concealed carry holder to carry in a place that it is not allowed. In North Carolina that includes Theaters (A man was shot to death in a theater in Raleigh not long ago), Hospitals (there was a gang shootout in a hospital lobby in Durham this year) i could go on but you get the drift........
-
I agree, it is a matter of choice and I am grateful we live in a state that gives us that choice. I personally choose to carry concealed for safety reasons. I feel open carrying is like hanging a sign around your neck that says "shoot me first." I would rather look like a lamb and fight like a lion, but that's just me.......... Ya'll go easy on 808 South. Ya'll are like a pack of dogs on a Jack rabbit.
-
I here ya 808 SOUTH! At least the guy could have the courtesy to conceal his weapon. I am very careful in places like that to make sure no one can tell if I am carrying or not. In North Carolina you cannot carry anywhere that you have to pay to get in. That includes movie theaters, ball games, ect. We just got a law passed that lets us carry in state parks and on game lands.

I had a chance today to put 100 rounds through my new LC9. ($345 plus tax). I am very impressed with this little pistol. It looks much more refined than the Kel-Tec it was copied from and it felt more refined. The slide was smooth and the finish was of good quality. The trigger is....different. It is longer than "War and Peace" but it's so smooth and light and even, throughout the pull. I wasn't sure how it was going to do at the range but I was surprised by how well I could pull the trigger. With the pad of my finger I was able to shoot some decent groups at 10 yards (considering I am not that good of a shoot). With the joint of my finger I was able to fire very fast while maintaining good control and getting good hits. The pistol shoots like it is well broken in and the 100 rounds were gone quickly. This little pistol is sweet! Here are two myths I have read about this gun that I found to be false. 1) The LC9's recoil is too "snappy": I was expecting something like a snubby ultra-light with 38sp+Ps. So the first time I shoot it I was ready for some recoil. April fools! The recoil is insignificant. It's nothing! 2) This is not a range pistol: I found the LC9 to be a lot of fun to shoot and quite accurate. Things I do not like about the LC-9: a)It came in a cardboard box. Like a Happy Meal. b)You only get one magazine. My Glock 19 came with 3 mags, a loader, holster and cleaning rod in a nice plastic box. c)Take-down requires you to pop out a pin. I know that pin is going to roll down into the couch and disappear. d) It only has a 7 round magazine. But it is slim and can hide behind a T-shirt IWB. e) Oh yeah. It is not a pocket 9mm. I will keep my little 380 for pocket carry.

I have a DB380 that runs like a Swiss watch. I was going to wait and see what the DB9s were like but I couldn't wait and bought a Ruger LC9 instead. If the DB-9s work right I may get one.

First of all who would want to look in a 95 year old woman's diaper? Some sick perverted...AGGGGGGH that just ain't right! The TSA is NOT making this country safe. The men and women in our military who are killing those sons of beaches are making us safer and paying for it with their sweat and blood. That really makes me mad....

Welcome Jon, don't feel bad if you don't get a hundred welcomes. This place has so many newbies coming in that it's hard to welcome everyone with the traditional Tennessee courtesy. I guess word has gotten out about TGO. Lots of good fellowship here with a few brawls thrown in just for fun

Proud to have you Troublehead. I have had a lot of great times up on the Plateau over the years. It used to be a wild and wonderful place. I recon it still is for the most part............ -
I have a Bisley Vaquero in .357. It's great fun shooting single action revolvers. I shoot 38 special some but I do love the full house .357 and the Vaquero is heavy enough so the recoil is a non issue. The only issue with shooting .357 loads is that the gun gets hot enough to iron shirts with. You can burn your fingers loading it. I imagine that 44 magnums would be a hoot! If I reloaded I would have gotten a 44 mag. but 38s are a lot cheaper than 44s at Wallmart. The thing I like about the single action revolvers is you learn to take your time. It takes a while to reload so you want to make every shoot count. I also shoot less ammo when I shoot the Vaquero so it saves money too. Of course you'll have to get a nice leather rig. I got one from Old El Paso Saddlery that is real nice and cost $170. El Paso Saddlery - Holsters

Well how do you like it? When I first saw one it looked awkward but the store owner said they were great for concealed carry. I went with an uncle mikes instead.

I have a tough decision to make regarding buying a new gun.
Will Carry replied to a topic in Handguns
Whatever you do, do it quick. Before your car breaks down, or you washer or dryer bites the dust. Handgun money has been a life saver for me over the years. I'm still saving for that $1000 gun. A Smith and Wessom model 27 6". -
Welcome Yank! I drove through Up State New York once, out in the country, and got lost. I pulled in to this little store to ask directions. The old man said, and he talked funny, "well Reb.." He called me Reb. "You go down he-a about a mile and ton left and that'll take ya...to the main highway." I got a kick out of that. I stopped in a little restaurant and ordered iced tea. They bought me a pot of hot water, a tea bag and a glass of ice. LOL! My wife is from New York City. I'm from Rockdale County Georgia.
