  1. Those guns paint a picture of your grandparents. Those are working man's guns. Good quality but no fluff. Your grandfather was either a hardworking man and/or a man who set his priorities towards his family. I would keep them all but you can research which ones are more appropriate for kids. Good luck.
  2. I's rather be poppin' 380s at a bad guy than be standing there with a jammed 9mm. Just saying.
  3. I here people on these forums talking about a SHTF scenario. What they mean is a sudden collapse of a great country that is not cause by a 1) plague 2) natural disaster 3) Invasion from outer space 4) invasion by another country. Can someone discuss when a SHTF scenario actually happened in world history? This is not a challenge. I am just interested and want to learn.
  4. I have only held the CZ 75 and it does feel great in my hand. I think I have a crush.....
  5. I bought XDm-40 when ammo was scarce and 40 seemed the only ammo that Walmart had in stock. It's a great pistol but it's the only 40 I own and I hardly ever shoot it. If I got rid of it for a good price I could afford a CZ 75 SP-01 with Tritium nights sights and 18 round magazine. Own mostly 9mms and 45acps. I could eliminate the need keeping 40 S&W ammo. Is the CZ 75 SP-01 worth the hassle?
  6. I like my local gun store. I think I will continue to buy from the little guys.
  7. You seem to be more knowledgeable than me on that. You bring up some very good points. Have you ever read "Transfer of Power: The war of 1861" by Elliot Germain? He states that the Confederacy could not afford to FIGHT a war, regardless of the outcome. You are saying if they did not have to fight then they could have done well. You make a strong argument for that. Thanks for the reply.
  8. I'm not sure. The south would have been ruined if they had gotten their independence. England was getting cotton from India and didn't depend as much on the south's. Cotton was also destroying the topsoil throughout the south. The slavery issue was going to resolve itself regardless. Could the independent south have done it better? I can't say.
  9. To me it's a song written by a very angry southerner after the war. There were more than a few angry southerners after that war. The historical significance of the man's anger is often lost in today's TV History. I have been studying US history most of my life and "I don't need no pardon for anything I done" is something most southerners understand but many non-southerners don't. Many southerners after the war felt that the Union betrayed the US constitution by not allowing the states to secede. They felt it was the states right to secede from the union. They even sent an envoy to meet with Lincoln to ask that the supreme court decide if the US constitution allowed for secession. Lincoln new better than to take the bait and would not see them. I personally don't think that Major Randolph was writing, literally, how he felt. I think he was writing a poem that expressed the angst of the southern plight. Poetry was really big back in his day and I think the poem was turned in to a song. Major Randolph did spend time at Point Lookout. A Union POW camp. "Randolph, Innes, lawyer and poet, was born in Winchester, Va., October 25, 1837, and died in Baltimore, Md., April 29, 1887. He was a man of rare talents, with early predilections for both music and art, but after serving in the Confederate Army he settled in Baltimore for the practice of law and incidentally began to contribute poems and sketches to the newspapers. At length he relinquished the legal profession and became an editorial writer on the Baltimore American, a position which he held for the remainder of his days. Among his best know poems are 'Twilight at Hollywood,' 'The Good Old Rebel,' and an 'Ode to John Marshall.' After his death, a volume of his verse was edited by his son, Professor Harold Randolph."
  10. I got my new RSA last week. I can't tell the difference. What happens if you don't send the old RSA back?
  11. As usual you guys give good advice. Always know what you are shooting at and what is behind your target. When I go through scenarios for my home defense I practice shooting through sheet rock (I don't actually shoot). I don't have children in the house or a grandmother (may she rest in peace). I just want to make sure we all realize that a wall in your house is not cover. If there is no danger of hitting an innocent loved one, don't let a wall get in your way of protecting your life.
  12. As I watch this video, with a very well respected instructor, I could not help but think of an alternate method. Sheet rock is concealment not cover. Why no just shoot the bad guy through the wall?
  13. 1000 rounds before he trusts his gun for carry? 1000 rounds of the ammo he's going to carry? That's $1000 worth of ammo for me. That may be OK if you work for Beretta and get your ammo for free. Otherwise I am very interested in the Nano.
  14. If you shoot the guys dog because he was attacking you, that's OK. If the owner charges you, run. If you can outrun him you have just saved yourself a lot of trouble. If you can't, then you have to do something else. You do not have to be there when the police arrive, if you are being chased. It also depends on what kind of dog attacks you. I have a very vicious Pekinese but I wouldn't shoot him if he attacked me.
  15. I'm speechless.........................
  16. I have an XDm 40. It does everything well but for some reason it sits in my safe all the time. There is nothing wrong with it at all. I shoot 45acp, 9mm and 38 Special. The XDm-40 is my only 40 so that may be the reason.
  17. You may not need a pistol IN Walmart but the parking lot is a different matter. I always carry in Walmart. Everybody carries in wally World.
  18. I have a Glock 36 that I carry sometimes. I have a +1 magazine extension on it. This gives me 8 shots. The only thing I don't like about it is with the 6 round magazine it pinches a blood blister on my pinky when I shoot it. With the magazine extension it doesn't do it. The gun has never failed to go bang and is accurate at 7-10 yards, which is what I shoot at the range. I also have a Glock 19 that is so close to the same size that my holsters are interchangeable.
  19. I can't believe nobody has mentioned Pearl Harbor. The most inaccurate portrayal of Pearl Harbor ever attempted. How many stupid scenes? I haven't been able to count them all. The worst was when the two American pilots took of in their P-40s and had two japanese A6Ms on their 6 O'clock. That dogfight would have lasted about ten seconds before the Zeros shot down the P-40s. BUT NOOOO. They decided that the only way for the P-40s to survive was for them to fly back and forth across the airfield while someone climbed the tower and set up a 30 caliber machine gun. Like getting 100 feet higher was going to help. Then they flew by the tower and the 30 caliber machine guns shot the Zeros down. That was so stupid.

  21. You will not regret the LCP as a first buy. My "little friend" is the pistol that goes with me everywhere. Either as a back up gun or a primary carry. Just don't drop it in the woods, you'll never find it.
  22. A Smith and Wesson Model 27, 4" in Nickle or Blued. If I can find one for the right price.
  23. Thanks JWinTN. I'm really psyched!
  24. Defensive Concepts North Carolina - Class Registration Here is the website of the training I am thinking of taking. I have no references yet but Chris at Defensive Concepts has asked for my training resume to see where I need to start. I am going to get training probably this winter after the first of the year. I will bring my Glock 19 is I ever get the RSA from them. This course will be on weekends so I won't have to take vacation. It's $50 cheaper and they only require 500 rounds of ammo instead of 800. I also will not need to buy two extra magazines. Now I'm looking at a $500 budget. Heck, I could take my 45acp!
