  1. Those Filipinos have been making fine handguns for a long time. I do believe they are using old Colt tooling that Colt left behind. If I had to choose between the two I would go with the Rock, although Paras are made in America, in North Carolina. Since you didn't ask I will not try to talk you into buying a Colt.
  2. I am so glad that some of you guys (and gals) are helping your children learn how to clean their weapons. My father, uncles and all of their friends, fought in world war two. I was honored to be able to help my father clean his shotgun or rifle. My father taught me how to clean his guns, while he taught me about the evils of communism. His generation had done so much and sacrificed so much but the job was not over. It is still not over, our young men and women are still fighting. It was an honor to clean the rifle of a man who fought and defeated the Japanese and Germans. I think our children should learn how to clean a firearm. Our sons and daughters. My advatar is the MacMillan Taratan, from Scotland. We came to this country to find freedom. We settled in what is now Alabama and Tennessee. We found freedom and have been fighting for it ever since.
  3. I told my wife, "If you are going to own a gun and shoot a gun, you are going to clean it too!" So I'm in the dinning room cleaning her pistol again...........
  4. This is some very good advice. The Blog : The Truth about Violence : Sam Harris
  5. That sounds great Worriedman but who is going to protect all of that? A well regulated militia. The point I was trying to make is tha we can't survive without working together. You will need your nieghbors to help you live and to protect what you have. You will need law, education and healers. Cops, teachers and doctors. A SHTF scenario will surely bring out the worst in our society but it will also bring out the best. Through the grace of our Lord.
  6. Sweet! I have a DB380 which is 100% reliable and shoots better than any 380 pocket pistol I have ever shot. I went with the Ruger LC9 instead of the DB9. Wait till the DB45 comes out!
  7. You are correct. A savy individual can survive on nuts, berries and worms for a period of time. The pilgrams from the suburbs will not do well living off the land like that. I have never eaten a slug or worm but I have eaten snails.
  8. Dolomite, You are the one who is going to form a militia! A group of people who are sticking together. I don't think it will be as bad as some people are saying. America was formed on Christian Judaic principles. You will meet others who share your faith.
  9. I have read so many posts of people who are going to escape into the hills as a reaction to the SHTF scenario. First of all there is not much food in them thar hills. Second of all the people who actually live there will probably shot you. So even if you make it there, you will probably starve. The thing you really need to study is how to form a well regulated militia. In order to have a militia you will need a place for them to billet. Then you will need at least 2000 calories per day to keep them fed. One of the reasons the American Indian was unable to resist militarily to the white man's expansion is they could not bring together enough food to feed the number of men needed. They could gather for a short time but after that they had to leave for home. NO FOOD! (go figure) So in a SHTF scenario the well regulated militia is going to dominate. In order to feed a well regulated militia they are going to take the food from people. I don't know how that is going to work. I live in the suburbs and I intend to stay put in a SHTF. The gangs already have a well regulated militia. That part is not going to be easy for us suburbanites.
  10. Thanks for the help. Her wrist and hands are too weak to control any of my pistols. I will keep you posted. I have a really sweet S&W Model 36 3" nickle revolver. If I could get the trigger lightened up by a gunsmith it would be perfect. I am also considering a rifle for her. If we didn't have three dogs already I'd get her a German Shepard.
  11. Today her wrist is sore from shooting the Glock 19. She shoot about 30 rounds through it. She had two FTEs from lip wrists. The only time that pistol ever failed. I'm trying to think out of the box. Like an FN 5.7. I have never shot one but I here the recoil is mild. Or maybe the Kel-Tec PMR-30, although I here they are prone to jam. OR start from the beginning, with a light weight 22 target pistol like the Browning Buckmark series and letter her work up to something bigger. I also am thinking about getting her some private instruction. I got really mad at her at the range Monday because she lowered my 380 with her finger still on the trigger. Then she did it again mith my Volquartsen Mark III and ended up breaking the front sight. Maybe some private instruction would be better, she never listens to me.
  12. My wife is in her sixties and is not in good health. She can't rack the slide on any of my semi-autos and can't pull any of my revolvers in double action. She can't handle the recoil of my Glock 19. My GP-100 is too heavy. She also can't handle my 380 pocket pistol. She can't rack my Ruger Mark III. She doesn't want to shoot a revolver single action because she's afraid she would forget in an emergency. Should I get her a Beretta 32 0r 22 with the tip up barrel? Any suggestions?
  13. These guns are fantastic. I highly recommend them. The quality far exceeds the price.
  14. I am not sold on plastic revolvers. I carry a Smith and Wesson model 36 that was made over 40 years ago and it still shoots great.Plastic revolvers must be cheaper to manufacture than a real revolver. Since you did ask for thoughts and not opinions, I will not say what I think about Taurus. Taurus International Malfunctioning makes some really cool weapons. I here they are coming out with a carbine with 35 round magazines. I am always interested in Taurus firearms and I have not given up on them.
  15. I traded my Glock 36 for a CZ 75 SP-01. The Glock 36 is a fine concealed carry gun but it would pinch a blood blister on my pinkie every time I shot it plus I have other carry pistols that a like more, so it was gathering dust in my safe. The CZ 75 SP-01 is an all steel copy of the Browning High Power with a few improvements. It has Tritium night sights and uses 18 round magazines (take that California!). At the range today I shot 200 rounds of 115gr target ammo through it without a hitch. WHAT A GUN! Pros:It is a very well made pistol. It has a long sight radius and weights 41oz empty so the recoil is mild. I was smiling ear to ear as I watched the hole on my target get bigger. It is as much fun to shoot as my 1911, maybe more. Cons: This is not a concealed carry gun. I think it's heavier than my Colt 1911. The trigger is a little gritty and not as good as my 1911 but I have heard it will break in. You can get a trigger job on it for less than $200 but not much less. I will stick with the trigger it came with. The Tritium night sights are great in the dark, but not as visible as my Glocks. They are good enough to make one jagged hole at 21 feet.
  16. The talking heads were all over this today in North Carolina. My guess is it was one of those Tactical Umbrellas. Umbrella, not gun, causes lockdown at ECU :: WRAL.com
  17. This is a good thread for me. My wife can't rack any semi-auto I own. She can pull my GP-100 in DA but it's too heavy for her. She has trouble with my Model 36 Smith. So I hand her my .410 single shot shotgun. She she can break it open but can't close it. Now I'm thinking that maybe I need to get her a bigger dog. I don't know if she could shoot anybody. This is a big problem for me. I work a lot and I hate leaving her home knowing she can't protect herself. Maybe a 32AP with a pop-up barrel will be the ticket. Beretta and Taurus make them.
  18. Did I say that? If you give up your constitutional rights, then you are subject to what ever the government, or the representative of the government says. On one hand, you should not be intimidated or bullied into giving up your rights. Yet these cops are the only thing between a civilized society and anarchy. So you have to respect the cops but the cops have to respect you. I have never been asked to consent to a search, I ain't sure how I would handle it.
  19. I don't drink and don't do drugs. After reading all of these posts, I'm as confused as ever. We all have a constitutional right not to be searched for no reason. Many Americans have died to give us those rights and keep them. It seems like we should not be willing to give up the 4th amendment any more than the 2nd amendment. On the other hand I come from a family of LEOs, I know a lot of cops and I know how to deal with them. As much as I like to disagree with TNDave, I think he's right on this one. You have a few seconds to make a choice. If you got something to hide, it's better to be friendly to the LEO. I have a friend who likes to smoke weed and drive. He got pulled over once and arrested for it. He was so nice to the cop about it that the cop told the judge, "This guy is the nicest man I have ever arrested." The judge was very easy on my friend. It pays to be nice.
  20. Excellent! Do Zombie Maxes work on Werewolves? I think there has been one in my yard.
  21. Bought an IWB holster for my Ruger LC9 made by N8-2 (2 being square). Last night I slipped my Colt Government 1911 into it and it fits great. I feels great. It so slim that it carries like an LC9, only a little heavier. I have now reconsidered my 1911 as a carry gun. http://n82tactical.com/n82store/
  22. I have a DB380 that works great. It has not jammed in over 20 range trips. I go to the range once a month. I cycle the rounds I have had in the DB380 through and shoot another magazine. So I fire 13 rounds a month. Then I reloaded it and put it back in my pocket. I did polish the feed ramp. I may end up with a DB9 in the future. I have a LC9 but it's too big for pocket carry.

  24. We have been eating Armadillo burgers in Lower Alabama for years. All you need is someone stupid enough to clean one, then grind up the meat with some hamburger and you have Armadillo Burgers. Tastes a lot like Opossum Burgers.
  25. I have heard rumors that NAA is developing a Mini in 32 magnum. I hope they can work in out. I love the little NAA minis I just can't justify one right now.
