  1. I bought my wife a new Corolla when she retired. I'm 6'2" 220lbs and I fit in it just fine. It gets great gas mileage and has never needed any maintenance repairs. It is her third Corolla. They are great little cars.
  2. I really like my N82 holster. It's so comfortable you can hardly feel it. It also fits a variety of pistols. I have a grocery bag full of holsters and this is the one a wear most of the time.
  3. Polk County! I can tell you some stories about run-ins with the law in Polk County but not on this thread. You don't mess with the law in Polk County!
  4. Sigmtnman. Would you by any chance be a paddler? I've been paddling allover the southeast for the last 30 years, much of it in Tennessee. 1. Dagger Kayaks 2. Levis jeans 3. Hanes T shirts 4. Ruger firearms 5. Bill Dance sunglasses. 6. North Carolina pulled pork barbecue. 7. Tennessee whiskey 8. Duke's mayonaise
  5. In 1993 I went to Wartburg for the first time (pretty women up there for sure). We were camping at Frozen Head State Park when the park ranger came up and said "Hi You'uns doing?" . That was the first time I have heard "You'uns" used in Tennessee. After 20 years of visiting Wartburg every spring I got used to the way they talk but I had never heard anyone outside the area use the term. Now a friend of mine from Pennsylvania says the mountain folk there say "You'uns" too. So I'm picturing a belt running from Pennsylvania down to Tennessee where the hill folk say "You'uns" instead of "Ya'll". So my question is: Does the You'uns belt stop at the Kentucky border area or does it extend down through the Pine Barrens into Alabama? Does it go west in to Middle Tennessee?
  6. I carry my LC-9 all the time. This pistol has shot 115gr target loads, 147gr. JHPs and 124gr. +Ps and it has never failed. I can live with the trigger. There are lots of 9mm micro compacts out now and I cannot say the LC9 is the best but since it has been 100% reliable, I'm not looking to replace it.
  7. I use Winchester White Box (aka WWB) target ammo 115 gr.. You can get it at the Chinese department store. As far as self defense ammo is concerned the posts above pretty much cover it. I do have some 9mm +P defensive ammo but I do not stress out too much on ballistics. It is much more important to be able to hit your target than whether you have +P+ ammo in your pistol.
  8. I would recommend a basic Defensive Handgun class. They go into a lot of detail on trigger pull, grip and stance. We did things like balance an empty shell casing on the front site and try to dry fire without the casing falling off. You can also do it with a coin. The time to get instruction is now before you pick up bad habits. "Aim small miss small"
  9. No surprise there. Make my day and get off my lawn. Draw them pistols or whistle Dixie. Buzzards gotta eat same as worms. Do you feel lucky? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/03/clint-eastwood-romney-endorses_n_1740021.html
  10. Whenever Uncle Sam gives a soldier something lighter to carry, that just means they can give them more of something else to carry. They took away the M-14 and gave them the M-16 and said "Now think of all the extra stuff you can carry."
  11. Good luck in your new job. Alabama is OK. They talk funny and have weird ideas about barbecue but they are good people. I left Tennessee for the same reason, a job. I sure miss Nashville, Crossville and the Cumberland Plateau.
  12. What he said.......
  13. I have a Ruger GP-100 and a Ruger Bisley Vaquero, in .357. Both of these pistols are accurate, have good triggers and are tough. They are the poor mans Smith and Wesson. I would rate them every bit as good as a Smith if not better.
  14. http://www.gatcosharpeners.com/sharpeners.mgi Knife sharpening is an art and individuals disagree as to what is the best. Experts disagree! I can tell you that after over 30 years of using a knife for work, this Gatco is among the best. It really doesn't matter how you do it, but always keep your knife as sharp as possible. I have people at work who bring their knives to me to sharpen. BUT, there is a guy who uses a simple Arkanas stone, who can sharpen a knife better than I ever could.

    I have converted

The one of the most accurate handguns I own is a Ruger Bisley Vaquero with fixed sights. I have been enjoying my revolvers more and more lately too. They are some much fun to shoot! A man armed with a .357 magnum revolver, is a well armed man.
  16. You will never see me wearing camo.......
  17. They don't make'em like that any more. He was discharged from the the Navy in 1941 then reenlisted after Pearl Harbor.
  18. That looks like it's in great condition. A classic!
  19. I go to a gun shop for good prices, good selections and friendly people. If I don't get all three, I do not return. My gun shop has all three of these things. A Gun Buster sign, although it doesn't make a lot of sense, will not stop me from getting a good price on a firearm or accessory.
  20. Mine is so reliable I use it for home defense with 147gr JHPs (It has the power of a 357 magnum.) It has never failed to fire.
  21. That sounds like fun! Post some reports and photos if you can. My Great Grandfather was Private Isaac Mason, Lumsden's Battery, 2nd Alabama Light Artillery, Army of Tennessee. He fought from Perryville KY to Spanich Fort. He missed Shiloh.
  22. All hail the Smith and Wesson J frame! The King of concealed carry.
  23. Well yeah but you are Superman. You can do anything. LOL. There is nothing self explanatory about gun safety. I know you take it very seriously as do most people on this forum. But I've seen some things. "I see dumb people .......and they don't even know they're dumb!"
  24. The gun store I buy from will not allow a loaded firearm in the store. If you come in armed you have to have the weapon unloaded and inspected. There is no requirement for gun safety training as a prerequisite for owning a firearm. I took a co-worker to the range/gun store after he pruchased a Glock 17 and a Mossberg 12 gauge pump. When we got to the firing line I realized the he did not know how to load, operate or shoot either guns. He knew nothing about gun safety either. I would not let him shoot until the store manager gave him a 1.5 hour class in gun safety. One of the reasons I only go to the range on week days when I'm on second shift is that I do not like being around a bunch of strangers who are shooting guns. I have seen too may idiots with guns.
  25. I carry a SOG Flash II with the Tanto blade. It has a spring assist feature which means I can open it easily with one hand. The blade has two edges which are flat. That makes it easier to get it razor sharp. The best knife is the one in your hand when you need it.
