  1. You did the right thing. Avoid a fight if you can. Even if it hurts your pride.   Throat punch?  Have you had any martial arts training? In Tae Kwon Do there are several moves that attack the throat. They are considered deadly strikes. I have only used my martial arts training once to defend myself. I was attacked in a parking lot, on Lower Broadway, by a man who was drunk and on drugs of some kind. I quick snap kick to the groin left him rolling in the gutter. I have also been badly beaten by a little guy who was a boxer. I was a 6' 2" at 210lb black belt and we was 5' 2" and 150lbs golden gloves boxer. He beat me so badly that to this day, I'm afraid of little dudes.
  2. Welcome Jason and thank you for your service. This a great forum with some good people. I'm a country boy who is now living in suburbia. I try to get back to the Tennessee woods once or twice a year to clear my head.  Being a city boy, we have to shoot indoors (ain't that crazy!) so I shoot mostly handguns.  I grew up next to a field that was over 1/4 mile long and spend many hours with my model 700 popping fire ant mounds. I envy a man who could become an elite sniper. The best of the best.
  3. GOOD NEWS! My doctors says I can have two drinks of whiskey every night. "Do I have too?" He said I didn't but I could if I wanted to. So now I have to decide what kind.  I used to like George Dickel because it had a distinct woody flavor. Jack Daniels has that pepper after taste. After reviewing this post maybe I should try some Kentucky Bourbon. I haven't had a drink in months.
  4.   I meant no disrespect to the men and women who served and are serving, that are not from the South.
  5.  My Niece is very liberal, tiny and lives in Nashville. She can't understand why anyone would want to carry a gun into a bar, or a grocery store or a movie theater or anywhere else. The lady in the video is pro-abortion, which I disagree with, but she makes sense and she does speak liberalese.      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=643M_Me6vdI
  6. They disrespect the South, make fun of us, call us names......until they need soldiers to fight their wars.
  7.   What a difference a trigger makes. Although my old LC9 hammer fired was 100% reliable, the trigger was just too long and the reset was....too long.  I tried the new LC9s (striker fired) at my local gun shop and bought it. I took it to the range today and I must say the trigger is better than my Glock 19. It is smooth and the reset is short. This is the pistol that Ruger should have made in the first place.     I ran 100 rounds of WWB through it and 14 rounds of Federal +P JHPs with no issues.  The sights are good and the accuracy, at 21 feet, was spot on. The things I do not like about the pistol do not have anything to do with it's effectiveness as a small concealed carry pistol but I will mention them. 1) Magazine disconnect (don't like'em) 2) The orange New Jersey Magazine (?????) and the way it is disassembled. 3) You only get one magazine. It also comes in a cardboard Happy Meal box with a cheap little zip up bag that is useless. But the price is right and all of those things don't matter when you consider it is reliable and has a sweet trigger.

    Potato guns

I had a Spud Launcher years ago. It had a handle with a propane grill igniter in it. It was sweet. It would knock the bark off a pine tree. When I found out that they were illegal, I got rid of it. They have enough power to kill someone and should be treated like a firearm, if they are legal where you live. If not, it ain't worth it.
  9. I keep a couple of speed loaders too.  I seriously doubt I could actually reload a revolver quickly in a gun fight with someone shooting at me. I will certainly try though.

    Glock42

I handled a Glock 42 at my LGS recently but decided to buy the Ruger LC9s. I am a big fan of Glocks and carry a G-19 (the LC9s is my BUG). I am sure the Glock 42 will become a classic.
  11. I love wheel guns. My favorite is my Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .357. The sights are dead on, it has a target trigger and the hammer spur is lowered.  Whatever you do, get a quality revolver. Smith and Wesson makes the best. Ruger makes the toughest. That's  the only two I recommend. I have shot some Raging Bulls that were excellent. My dream pistol is a S&W model 27 4" or a new model 627. These are $1000 pistols but my Ruger is just as accurate.
  12. Hundreds of American soldiers and sailors were killed with Mustard Gas in the port of Bari, Italy, after a surprise attack by over 20 German bombers.  The only problem was that it was our Mustard gas that killed them.  Rumors had spread that Hitler might use poison gas as a last resort so the US Navy was ordered to send a ship filled with Mustard gas close to the front lines so they could be deployed as a retaliation should Hitler use gas. It was so secret that nobody in the port knew of it. When the Luftwaffe made their surprise attack, they sank 17 ships (including the Mustard Gas ship) and damaged many more in the harbor. They started getting wounded who had terrible blisters on their skin and lungs, by the time they figured out what it was, over 600 men had died at the hospital and countless more died before they were found. If they had known of the Mustard gas, they would have used decontamination procedures and could have saved many of the victims.  It is not known how many Italians died of the poison gas.   http://www.rense.com/general16/WWIIluftwaffe.htm
  13. OP here. I traded my defective DB380 for a Ruger LC9s striker fired. What a great trigger!  I will keep the Sig P-238 but it is my only 380 now. The new LC9s is what the LC-9 hammer fired should have been.  This new LC9s has a better trigger than my Glocks (which isn't saying much) and they did away with that stupid loaded chamber indicator.
  14.                          My father carried a Garand in 1945 in the battle for Manila. I had a chance to buy one in the early 70s for $100.  I wish I had. They cost too much now.
  15. I work with a man who claims to be an Atheist. He hit his thumb with a hammer and the first word out of his mouth was GOD. I did not let it pass either.
  16. Man that looks so sweet! I had bought this high dollar custom Bowie Knife back in the 1980s. It was beautiful. I kept it for 30 years and the edge never touched anything.  Then one day I gave it to an outdoorsman buddy of mine.  He is a surveyor and he never goes into the woods without it. Now it looks like a real knife. That's they way a good knife should be treated.
  17. HA HA ha. I ain't never ruined a pair of pants but I know what you mean about a sack full of holsters.  I spent about 5 years buying every kind of holsters, fanny packs, CC Tee-shirts and so on. Now I pocket carry and/or IWB carry.
  18. I spoke with Bob at work today. He has had over 50,000 hits on his photo sharing web site. I told him that I posted his website on TGO but there is NO WAY that the TGO could generate 50,000 hits. Then he started naming gun forums that I had never heard of. I asked him if he was some sort of photographic genius and he said no, it's more about patients, like Turkey hunting. You have to wait for the good shots. I asked him about his camera equipment and he said that he has spent less than $1000 for his equipment. This Bullfrog just makes me smile!
  19.   Bob's guide had a 338 Lapua slung over his shoulder. I had a reason for this post but if Bob knew about it he would be embarrassed. All I can say is he needs our prayers.     The old male, in his last bear photo, has been fighting off all comers to protect his harem.  Bob said that bear would not live much longer but he is the dominate male. That photo speaks to me.
  20. I have worked with Bob for several years but it wasn't until he asked my advice on what firearm to carry while backpacking in Mountain Lion country that I learned he was a gifted outdoor photographer. He decided on an AR-15 platform and I said "Yeah! that'll do".  So here is a link to some of his work. I hope ya'll like it.    http://rdbowen.smugmug.com/
  21.     I hate Nazis and I have no use for Skin Heads or White Supremist . I just like studying German Nazis. After World War II the biggest industry in West Germany was making souvenirs for GIs. They made Hitler Youth Knives until the Swatika was outlawed, I think, in 1952. I have a Brandy glass with a swastika on it. It supposedly came from Germany.
  22.   It does have the German cross decals for it.  I understand why the Germans don't want to display the swastika and I'm not going to go through all the trouble to order the aftermarket decals from Amazon for $8.00. I guess I'll just try to enjoy putting the plane together and remind myself of my childhood. We would put these planes together, hang them in our rooms and when we got tired of them we would light them on fire and shoot them with our BB guns. Good times.
  23. I hate Nazis, especially Illinois Nazis but I got a model airplane kit for my birthday of a Stuka dive bomber and it does not have a swastika decal to go on the plane's tail. Revell does not offer a Swastika decal on any of it's models. How can I have an evil German airplane model without the dad gum Swastika? If you want a Swastika on a Revell model you have to buy aftermarket ones.
  24. I hope you guys don't get tired of this. I'll try not to quote Wiki.   The US infantry were practicing beach landing near Oran on the North African coast, prior to landing on Sicily.  General Patton came storming down the beach, mad as hell. "Captain! Get these men off this @#$%  beach!" The captain replied "but general, I'm a chaplain." " I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE JESUS CHRIST! GET THE MEN OFF THE BEACH AND TO THEIR OBJECTIVES!" Then he stormed away.   The landings on Sicily were the largest amphibious landings of WWII. Bigger than Normandy by two divisions.
  25. It's hard to believe but it's true. Here is what I found on Wikipedia.   The Torpedo Alley, or Torpedo Junction, off North Carolina, is one of the graveyards of the Atlantic Ocean, named for the high number of attacks on Allied shipping by German U-boats in World War II. Almost 400 ships were sunk, mostly during the Second Happy Time in 1942, and over 5,000 people were killed, many of whom were civilians and merchant marines. The period of attacks began in January 1942, and together were known as the "Great American Turkey Shoot", by U-boat sailors. Torpedo Alley encompassed the area surrounding the Outer Banks, including Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras
