  1. I wish Nashville or Franklin had a place like that. I'd love to carry my wife out on a date of food and firearms. Of course, I wouldn't want the ceiling caving in or the resturant moving out.
  2. I carry a 1911 and don't have a problem carrying one in the pipe. I don't go cock and locked, though. Recently, as of last year, I bought my first Glock (21SF) and have thought about carrying it. I'm a little leary of the safety on these things. Once you've got one in the pipe the only safety is not having your finger on the trigger. Anybody want to throw in on this??
  3. Seeing as I saw my name in the post..... I own both Simmons and Tasco brand scopes on my rifles. My father lives and breathes by Tasco....so you know what I've heard all my life... However, being a thrifty, but quality seeking person myself....I have eyeballed the Swift brands every now and then at gun shows and shops.
  4. I see that Firestor Holsters has finally taken down his site. http://redstormholsters.com/firebrand/Home.html For those who didn't know. This guy made custom leather holster for FEG PA-63 semi autos and the like. He and his wife were in a head on collision around June-July last year and he put his holster making on hold. This was about the time I found out about his site only to be, while I'm very sorry that he and his wife were in a wreck, I was also disappointed that I was unable to get a leather carry holster for my .380. I realize I could go to Galco, Bianchi, and the like to see if I could get a leather holster for a Walther PPK, which is what one normally does to holster an FEG PA-63. It sure would have been nice to have one especially made for my pistol. Anybody know if someone else has taken over this business or if I can get a leather carry holster (other than the lousy leather flap holster that came with it) for this pistol?
  5. I wonder if the phrase, "just let it go, man" ever cross his mind...Apparently not.
  6. If I were a regular at a gun shop....it would be like an alcoholic in a bar....I'd have to run a tab sooner or later. That would be a very interesting episode of "intervention". (never watched it, just saw it advertised during reruns of The Sopranos)
  7. All I'm sayin' is I was in the market for a $200 .410 shotgun and this guy lead me to a $1200 12 ga. I'm just doin' the math.
  8. How are you starting? Are you using the existing grips for a pattern? If you're going to take pics, I'd love to see the work in progress to see how you went about it from start to finish.
  9. Here's my take. I live within city limits of a town in Williamson County. It, too, is also illegal to discharge firearms within the city limits. When and if you have have the chance to "do the deed" on said coyote. 1. Have your rifle ready. 2. Make the shot 3. Hit or miss, get back inside quickly, put the rifle away, and go back to your routine. 4. If questioned by anyone deny, play dumb, you know what I mean. 5. Wait and clean the gun on the weekend. The odds are a LEO is not going to hear a shot and come running. It's usually a nosey neighbor that reports a shot fired and wants someone to investigate. I would recommend a late night (11pm-12am) or early morning (2am-4am) assassination of would be pest/predator. By any means, stay in the shadows, so no one can see you. It's also best not to discuss the knowledge of coyotes in the neighborhood. If they're ever questioned, you'll be the first to come to mind. The name of the game here is CLANDESTINE. NOTE: The Average Joe does not condone illegal maneuvers such as the one explained above, but sometimes a man's got to do what a man's got to do.... and it's best done right ...and without getting caught.
  10. I use just a drop of blue on mine. "A little dab-ul-do-ya."
  11. Thanks, that settles an aguement in the works....
  12. I think the guy just felt I wasn't spending enough money for the comission he was going to get from the sale. But I do agree with what you're saying...
  13. What about .380 in a 9x18 caliber? Will that work?
  14. Try this one..... http://www.eknifeworks.com/webapp/eCommerce/product.jsp?A=&range=41&Mode=Cat&Cat=15&SKU=NI968
  15. I just got my first about a month ago. If you're wanting to dress up your AR, you might try Cheaper Than Dirt. They carry reasonably priced mags and furniture for ARs. www.cheaperthandirt.com There's also the Sportsman's Guide. www.sportsmansguide.com There are other places out ther to get the name brand and premo stuff. But it's all comes down to money and taste, I guess. These 2 places are where I'm starting, anyway.
  16. I'm a somewhat collector/shooter, so when I go to a gun shop, I pretty much know what I'm after. Like creeky, I'm a silent shopper and patient. When asked if I need any help, I'll point to what I'm interested in and that's....when my choice is made. Sometimes the guy behind the counter will say, "Oh no, you don't want that, you want this." I actually had a guy argue with me that I didn't want a .410 Snake Charmer, but should get a double barrelled Ruger 12 ga. WTF? I can mount something like that on my tractor to shoot snakes with...Much more, I would want to if that's all I had.... Needless to say he never took either one down off the rack and I avoid shopping there at any cost. Most of the points have been covered in this thread and I think everyone, no matter their "gun savyness" wants the same things out of the shops they choose to patronize....courtesy, respect, knowledge, selection, etc. If you've read just the first page of this thread, you're list of pro's and con's is probably almost complete.
  17. I agree with this. And I'll also add that shopping around at loal gun shops can be not only alot of fun but can educate you a little more on what youre shopping for....(i.e. weight and feel). Not to mention there's nothing better than getting outfitted with a new firearm at a one stop shop on a local gun shop that's made you a deal on firearm, holster, and ammo on a Saturday morning.
  18. You're catching on.
  19. I've always been partial to leather. Galco, especially. Yes, it does take a while to get the leather to conform to your gun for an easy draw. It also doesn't make as much noise or scratch the finish like Kydex. This is not to say I haven't considered it for some of my lesser guns...if anything just to have a holster for the thing. After all they do do their job.
  20. It's not neccessarily the government. The insurance companies are the ones calling the shots. That's the reason we have airbags, helmet laws, seatbelt laws, front wheel drive, and smoking restrictions. The insurace companies tell us that if everybody would do these things they want us to do, their rates would go down. The government in turn make a law so that everyone will...kinda of a team effort...or gang effort. But, look at it from their side....They gotta keep those insurance rates down so they can tax you more.
  21. Had the family out in Cool Springs last night and was stopping by Woody's Brews and Smokes for some CAO Gold's and decided to get supper at Cap'n D's. I love me some Cap'n D's.
  22. I'm a member of a Missionary Baptist Church not far from the Nashville Fairgrounds. It's located a few blocks off of Nolensville Road. The congregation has had all kids of freaks walk in on the sermon. Night time revivals are the time to really be on your guard. I don't think anyone would have a problem with me carrying within the church, especially if I sat there with my mouth shut about it. I don't think the Sunday School Teachers, the Song Leader, or the Preacher are up to doing a weapons search before the sermon begins.
  23. I'll have to agree the Remington 870 is a classic, but the Mossberg 500 is the best for the money you'll spend. Remingtons are expensive. Needless to say, I have a Mossberg 500.
  24. Agreed. I used to drive mine to work. From the Kingston Springs area to Murfreesburo Road area around Spence lane. My trek included I-40 East and I-440 East to M'buro Road. Many a morning I got off my bike jittery from the near miss I'd experienced. It's amazing how invisible I'd become once my tail hit the seat. NOBODY gets hassle from me about leaving their bike at home during the work week. If I had another, I love to take it down Natches Trace.
