Does it seem 22 shortage is getting worse?
JPS replied to urdubob's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
It's really frustrating for me - my boys and I have a .22 rifle and a .22 pistol that we've never shot because we can't find any ammo. I'm not going to pay ripoff reseller or gun show prices, and I have a weekday/daytime job, so I can't be at Walmart or other stores to stand in line for the little they're getting. I'd order online, but the sellers I've checked all say that they're out of stock/no backorders... Aaaaaargh! (Sorry - just had to vent there a little.) -
I read Enders Game years ago, and chuckled when I saw the movie previews with Lester's rocket ships and ray guns - I decided they either didn't follow the book's story line or there wouldn't be much of that kind of action. Not a bad movie (or book for that matter) but it ain't Star Wars.

If it's not sealed, you can try using a little Watco Danish Oil (Dark) and see if that gets it to the color you want. Watco oil works great, but needs to be reapplied once in a while. Refinishing it completely may get it to the color you want, but you'll loose the 'aged' character that makes most older pieces look good.

I'm in on the Nano side. I handled both quite a bit, and picked the Nano because it fit my hand better and just seemed to be the more solid of the two. I don't shoot it a lot, but I ran a couple boxes of ammo through it before I carried it, and didn't have a single problem. Trigger on mine is not gritty at all, and I like the long trigger pull as opposed to the safety. Works great for me.

On second thought, I think I'll load up some line on my bow-fishing setup - bet it would be more fun to try and rope one than shoot it down. Then I could take it in and wait for the owner to show up and explain what the hell it was doing outside my window.

I built my AR pistol without the SIG brace, but I'm kinda second-guessing that decision now.. I may look at picking up the brace and a buffer tube that will work with it and making the change.

Ooops. The fireworks I set off to celebrate it being Tuesday just took out the drone you were controlling that was hovering above my house inside my property line. Sorry, didn't see it there.

Bolt catch won't release on first AR build
JPS replied to JPS's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I had been trying with 2 different mags, 1 metal and 1 plastic, with the same results.. When I tried it this morning with a PMAG, it worked just fine. I'm thinking it just won't work with my 'cheap' mags - does that make sense? Those mags work fine in my other (Ruger SR556) AR. -
I have a Nano, and for me it's a keeper! In the summer it disappears in an IWB holster under a t-shirt.

Bolt catch won't release on first AR build

This is a TGO lower by the way, with an Anderson (I think) LPK. -

That is correct. It will not budge until the pressure is let up by pulling back on the charging handle. -

I'll try to post pics tomorrow when I'm not working. When I remove the upper and magizine, it appears to work properly. It only sticks when assembled and charged, and if I pull the charging handle back a little to relieve the pressure on the catch, it will release. -
The bolt catch on my just-built AR will not release unless i pull back slightly on the charging handle. I've taken it apart and checked, and it looks like it is assembled correctly. Is this something that can be adjusted somehow? Will it likely loosen up after firing the gun a few times, or should I get a replacement bolt catch? Note that this is my first time building an AR/lower - newbie mistake is not out of the question. Any ideas?

That is very nice! What kind of paint did you use?

It would probably be great for turning small projects on a lathe - pens, bottle stoppers, etc. I have a pepper mill turned from orange osage that is beautiful.

I was looking for a Pistol Buffer kit for my TGO build. After being told by one vendor that his were $60 and out of stock because they were less than I could find them ANYWHERE else, I talked to the guy across the aisle and bought one made in USA for $52. Always like this show.

We only have broadcast TV, so we get each season when it comes out on DVD and have a marathon viewing. (That's how we spent the weekend!) I agree - one of the best shows on TV!

I used to own a copy of this - looks like it's still available at Amazon..

Exactly! I can get it into the backpack with scope attached, but it's not easy.

I applied for a family policy - the Eligibility Results state (for my kids only): "Based on your application, you don't qualify to purchase health coverage through the Marketplace. In addition, you don't qualify for a tax credit, cost-sharing reductions, TennCare, or TennCare." (The typo/dup is theirs, not mine.) Pretty unambiguous.
-
My kids are 15, 14, and 2 years old... OC Navigator told me that it "must be a mistake" that they are not eligible for coverage, but I still have to go through an appeal to fix it. If the Appeal Board (Remember, there are no 'Death Panels', right?) finds that they are eligible for OC but can't get TennCare of some flavor, I'll be able to add them to my policy. I just have to hope that nothing happens until it all gets worked out.

Here's a snapshot of my evening, once I get off work: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
