  1. I didn't realize they had reps. Thanks for the help Joe! Matt
  2. Hey all, I've always hunted dove on private property but I'm thinking about taking a weekday afternoon to hunt the WMA over at Percy Priest. The TWRA website makes it sound like you just drive up, get out and start hunting. I know I need the WMA small game license (in addition to the usual license and migratory bird stamp), but is there anything else I need to know before going? Any special etiquette that regulars on the field follow? Has anyone here hunted that WMA? Any advice you all could give would be appreciated. Matt
  3. Thanks for the answers guys. I should have given you a link for the sight I'm looking at: http://tinyurl.com/9d86v9d I like the one Trekbike linked to, but I've got a vented rib, so it won't fit on my barrel. As cheap as this one is, and with time between now and duck season, I should be able to give it a trial run. If anyone else has any experience with this one - or again, can recommend a permanently mounted sight and a smith in the area they would recommend to do the work, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again guys! Matt
  4. I just picked up a Remington 870 express supermag for duck season and I'm interested in putting a fiber optic front sight on it. I'm not opposed to having one set in with screws, but the reviews on Cabela's website for the magnetic Cabela's/HiViz are fairly convincing (and at $15, the price is hard to beat). I'll be shooting 3 and 3 1/2 inch shells, though, and there are a few complaints about the magnetic sight not holding. Lots of reviews rave about how well they hold, but few reviews tell you what they're shooting. Anyone have any experience with this site using magnum or super magnum? Or can anyone recommend a good sight and smith to set it for me? I'm in Franklin and work in Nashville. Thanks for any help! - Matt
  5. I've had mine for several months now. I carry an SA XD service model .45. I had to experiment a bit to find a best position. I ended up adding two holes above the forward holes (right handed) so I could lower the back all the way and then pitch it forward for a very deep ride. This makes it more concealable. I wear it this way at 3 o'clock. In the car I sometimes forget it's even there.
  6. That's good to know, kirk. Thanks for chiming in! As of last night, they are not currently posted. Matt
  7. I went armed, but as I pulled up to drop off the family they had a police officer sitting in a cruiser on the sidewalk right in front of the doors. I went and parked and left the XD in the car. As I walked in I checked. I sure enough, no posting. I think from now on I'm just gonna go where I please. I'll check the doors and either leave it in the car or not do business with anyone that posts. I'm not afraid to call, but it seems like in many cases it could have a negative impact. Right now Adventure Science Center isn't posted. I'd hate to find out they are posting next week because they had never thought about it until my call, and now that they think about it, posting sounds like a good idea. What they didn't know wasn't going to hurt them. So I think I'll worry less about knowing who's posted in the future. Thanks for the help/feedback.
  8. OK. So I'm still new at this. Only carried for the first time today. I went ahead and called them. First person handed the phone off to someone else. She (the second lady) said "We don't have any specific signs, but we don't allow it." It was clear from her halting speech that she wasn't sure what to say and that the request creeped her out tremendously. But if they aren't posted and the "rule" isn't to be found anywhere, does the rule really exist?
  9. Anyone know? This is the place in Nashville over by Fort Negley. I did a forum search and didn't see any previous posts on this place. Thanks in advance! Matt
  10. Hey all! I typically lurk, but thought receipt of my HCP was newsworthy! I fingerprinted on Nov 12. I never called and heard officially that I was in the Dec 18 batch, but assumed I was. So as soon as the mailman came I sent my son out into the Nashville cold to retrieve it. Sure enough, the HCP was there. And as if that wasn't enough, I ordered a crossbreed supertuck just a few days ago and it was in the mail today, too! I wasn't looking to get that for a few more weeks at least. Matt
  11. Quick follow up...forgot to mention this from the website: "The Fatboy's rear slip compartment is now equipped with large loop Velcro patches to accommodate our Hook & Loop Modular Accessories (e.g. #3501 Universal Modular Holster, sold separately). This allows the user to position their concealed carry firearm for a quick strong side draw or weak side cross draw." So if you want this bag, don't forget to add the holster to your shopping cart.
  12. This may be more tactical than you're hoping for, but in black it might blend in more...http://tinyurl.com/yferxal It has a main section big enough for the netbook, a smaller section designed to take a handgun, and plenty of room for tools or modular add ons for tools. If this bag doesn't work, the same company may have something else on the website you like better.
  13. Hey! I just got on to see if there was any info about the course with regard to people without experience! I've been around fire arms all my life, but never got a permit. My wife has no experience with them, but is going to take the class with me and I was wondering if we needed to go to the range first or if she'd be ok. Sounds like she should be fine. We're even planning on taking the course at Guns and Leather. Thanks so much for posting, and congrats!
