Its just a lot of overtime. MPD is the highest paid department in the state. And they are all past 10 years on so they are making good money as their base salary.

They are more than fairly compensated. I know a few officers around Memphis bringing in over 6 figures.

At least that's my understanding. A TN POST certified officer can operate anywhere within the state boundaries. I could be wrong about that but I've been told that by several officers. I think he gave up on the books. He moderated the panel at ComicCon one year. And the way he perved on the female cast and talked about getting to see them nekkid, I think he is content just to be on set.
