  1. So this is the dedicated gun shop part of a pawnshop. I just went by and checked out a few things. Here is a quick and dirty review. I asked to see the CZ52 in the case and the kid pulled it out and immediately pointed it at my face, for an extended period of time. Long enough that I moved because he wasn't. We chatted for a while and I checked out a few other guns and then decided to make a purchase. The gun I was buying was used so it had a price tag that says "out the door." I told him give me the 4473, I'll take it. I fill out the 4473 while he copies my license and when he returns my license and takes the 4473, he tells me its 10 dollars for the background check. I told him that I knew and I'd just pay for it all at once. He says no, I have to charge you for that now. I've never had to pay it up front but I don't mind. I figured maybe that policy was born of the area and the pawn shop business. Background check comes back quickly and I hand him the "out the door" price minus ten dollars and he tells me its not enough. I give him the extra ten and tell him I thought the out the door price was out the door and I was told I was wrong. Finally I asked about a gun on the wall. Its a Springfield M1A1 but the tag says "Springfield MA1 Grand." I'm not a know-it-all so I asked if it was a special edition or something and I was told no, its a typo, its just supposed to say M1 Garand. Then I went to know-it-all mode and told them that is NOT an M1 Garand, they are quite different rifles. And the guys working seemed to be completely unaware. "Really? I didn't know. Looks like a Garand to me." Overall, its a nice shop with some friendly employees but I didn't really enjoy my experience there.
  2. Wow. That is terrible. I...just.....I....wow
  3. You going to personally reimburse me for everything they do that wastes money? The point isn't the pennies it cost me for this one thing. Its all of the things. If you are okay with this, it wasn't a waste of money for you, you don't get to ever complain that they waste money. Because whatever they were doing wasn't a waste to someone else, therefore it wasn't a waste, period.
  4. You used a whole lot of words to not explain anything relevant to my post. The gesture, and it is only a gesture, was a net negative on the budget. Therefore, it cost me, as a tax paying citizen of TN money. Money that would be better spent fifty other ways. It is governmental waste, and should be chastised as such.
  5. Wasn't separation of church and state as much about keeping the church out of government as it was keeping the government out of the church business? Regardless, thats not whats important here. I don't understand how its okay to complain that the government overspends on chair or toilet seats or whatever, but complaining that wasted time on a meaningless proclamation gets you chastised like you are the enemy. I appreciate a feel good gesture just as much as the next guy. But if given the opportunity, I'd rather spend my money on something else.
  6. Conspiracy theorists gonna conspiracy theory.
  7. Maybe the system could be geared more towards rehabilitation rather than incarceration. It's clear that the current system isn't a deterrent. I had a motorcycle stolen from my carport Erik. I now keep a motorcycle in my carport. I guess I deserve to have it stolen again.
  8. I wasn't implying that. If you inferred it, that's on you.
  9. We don't know everyone else's story. And it's always easy for us to judge others based on our morals and upbringing. This kid could be the product of a cokehead hooker and a murderer. I'd say that if all he is doing is breaking into houses, by comparison, he's pretty well grounded. The truth is, we don't know. Maybe he needs some guidance that he never received. And Sturgill isn't to blame because the door wasn't locked. That's victim shaming.
  10. Do you not find coincidences like that interesting?
  11. I have no clue. You think he knew something about Hillary? Are you saying that I think the DPD killed him because of his testimony? Because I didn't say that. I just think its interesting that someone who testified in a murder trial is killed within a month of that testimony. I've read a few more articles about it now and it seems that his family believe that he was targeted by someone from his childhood.
  12. It seems to me that some of you are being overly sympathetic towards her for no other reason than she was a cop. SHE IS NOT THE VICTIM. Other than the fact that she wouldn't have been as likely to be toting a gun if she was a civilian, her being a cop is not important to the story, at all. Also, did yall see where Botham Jean's neighbor has now been murdered as well? Who knows if all of this is related but he was shot last year in November. Then he had to testify in the criminal case and he was going to be called to testify in the civil case as well but he was murdered over the weekend. Dallas police have no suspects and no known motive and they never found who shot him last November either.
  13. It's not from movies. It's from the news. And being friends with cops on facebook. You don't have to look any farther than former FL Trooper Donna Watts who was stalked and harassed because she pulled over a speeding off duty Miami officer. Seeing the way that cops talk about her and what she did, yeah, I didn't have to look to movies for how cops are.
  14. That is absolutely absurd. By your standard, burglars only need to say that they thought they were in their house and they at the very least earn your sympathy. I don't care that she is a cop. Its irrelevant to this story in my opinion. What I care about is that through her actions of ignorance and negligence, an innocent man no longer breathes. She earns no sympathy from me for illegally entering someone else's home and taking their life. Of course, the story at the time was that she was inebriated but the toxicology reports at trial dispute that. Whether we can trust that or not is up for debate, blue backs blue. But the prosecution also presented that she was pre-occupied sexting her partner as this all unfolded. So her sending naughty texts was more important than Botham Jean's life. That's simply unacceptable.
  15. Some of those folks, like Destin in this video, are defending themselves from the thousands of keyboard commandos that are going to inevitably complain in the comments.
  16. Even taking it a step further, they go so far as to point out in the video that he is not muzzle sweeping the other guy because they are on different planes. Like Chuck said, there is a reason for the finger placement.
  17. This system doesn't remove the human element. It identifies the people with guns and makes it easier for the humans to find them. This of how many cameras a large school or mall has. Instead of having to sort through dozens of cameras, it helps to narrow down the relevant footage.
  18. I've shared some of Destin's videos before and here is another one. He has been working with another engineer on a system to detect firearms in video. Watch the video and then lets discuss. I think a lot of people are going to jump to conclusions before watching the video. I think this is a fantastic approach to responding to active shooters. If implemented in schools and other places where mass shooters commonly attack, it could drastically reduce response time as well as allow more time for people to take defensive positions. Imagine the cameras outside of a school identifying the shooter and sending the text before the shooter is even in the school. Faculty can hit a panic button and have ever room locked down in no time. I'm not saying that this is a perfect system, and from the video, so far it seems to only be smart with handguns, but its a start and I think that this is the kind of technology that pro-2A people can get behind.
  19. Its not the beginning. The beginning was around 1864.
  20. Once again, I'm not talking about their morals. I'm talking about their words, votes and policies and how those intertwine with my morals.
  21. Being younger, I don't have the voting history that a lot of you grey beards have. And my politics have evolved as my world view has. So I have voted for a lot of people that didn't align with my current thoughts on what is moral. But again, I'm no stranger to write ins. My stance has nothing to do with their personal life, but rather the things that they do and say politically. I don't care if someone gets their wee wee wet. That's none of my business.
  22. You have a blind faith in Trump that I do not. And its not feeling good about myself. Its morality. I cannot knowingly elect someone that is not aligned with me morally.
  23. after the shooting where the kid used a silencer, he publicly said he would explore going after those, no-one needs them. Why wouldn't he say the same thing here? Especially if the left uses the guy from the hearing yesterday again. He will make the argument that black guns need to be regulated by the NFA, Trump will agree and sign. Trump had the opportunity to pursue the HUSH act when he was elected but neglected because he DOESNT CARE ABOUT GUNS. His son may, but its clear that he has zero influence. As for the election, I will most likely write in a name for the presidential ticket. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils. I won't cast a vote for a man or woman that I believe will continue to harm this country. If a libertarian candidate is available on my ticket that I believe is the correct choice, I will cast my vote for him or her. Otherwise, I'll write in whoever I think is a better option.
