  1. It's not that he's on a pedestal. But entertainers tend to touch us somehow. It could be because of something we saw from them around a big moment in our own lives or just because something they did was special to us without something going on in our lives. A lot of people grow up wanting to emulate entertainers. And that's not something new. Older men than myself talk about John Wayne the same way and post videos or memes of him and talk about how great society would be if we be like him. HE WAS AN ENTERTAINER. No one has the right to tell me how important someone should be in my life. And I certainly don't have the right to tell anyone else. Kobe didn't mean much to me. When it comes to basketball, I grew up with players that were retired before he made the league. But I do recognize that he was important to a lot of other people. Maybe to some of those people, his work was important because it was the escape from the news of service men's sacrifice, the stupid war on terror or whatever their daily drag was. You never know. I just checked the rule book and nowhere in it does it say that you can't mourn more than one loss at a time. So if people want to come here and express sympathy for Kobe's family and those that felt some personal connection to him, good for them. At the same time they could be mourning the loss of those service men. And who knows who else. But it's not my job to judge them for it and I certainly won't come on here and try to marginalize their loss or tell them they are problem because of it.
  2. Some of us have Jesus in our heart always and still make room for other humans. You know, as Jesus would want us to do.
  3. You misunderstood what he meant by "another player." Kobe was taking his 13 year old daughter to one of her games. So another player in this case is another 13 year old girl. Not a celebrity. Not someone rich and famous. Just a girl who wanted to play ball and got in the wrong vehicle. That's sad.
  4. That law most likely predates people buying trucks as status symbols or family vehicles too.
  5. Bingo.
  6. You haven't been to Austin lately, have you?
  7. NOT A LAWYER!!! I think that's correct, however don't get caught doing it. Pretty sure the ATF will flip if they ever catch someone doing it.
  8. Bringing this back. Does anyone on the forum have one? I can't find one in stock locally and want to get hands on before committing to the purchase.
  9. You said, and I quoted, "any bad uppers." I gave anecdotal evidence of ONE, disputing your claim. If you meant lines of uppers or manufacturers, I'm sorry, I misunderstood your post.
  10. Disagree. I've seen one that was either poorly assembled or machined. It had feed issues until it locked up. Turned out it kind of blew up the BCG. It was sent back to PSA and refunded for being garbage.
  11. If I'm not already on those lists, I'd be shocked.
  12. Well this is interesting.
  13. Paper mill is still going strong. When the wind blows the right way, I can smell it something fierce in Michie.
  14. I don't think that's accurate. The Mosquito pre-dates GSG by about 20 years.
  15. There are still a TON of slip joints and lock backs being made and sold these days. They aren't the norm. But the tactical folder market exploded in the late 90's, early 2000's. The market is big enough for it. But even a lot of the custom tactical folder guys are making slip joints regularly now. The market is leveling off.
  16. Yall should check out the Mark of the Maker podcast episodes that have Bob Terzuola. Bob is one of the fathers of the "Tactical Knife" and he talks about what makes a knife tactical in that podcast. Basically it boils down to one handed operation and concealability. Prior to "tactical" folders, you had a lot of knives that required two handed opening or big fixed blades that weren't concealable. Bob said you should have knives that you can carry without being seen but be able to open it if on a ladder. So those are really what makes a knife tactical. Hidden from plain view but easy to operate with a single hand.
  17. Nothing recent. I've missed out on a few Ruger 96 models and some M6 survival rifles because I thought the price would maintain. I was wrong.
  18. You can't come up in here with a story like that and not tell us what gun it was.
  19. FIRES WITHOUT MAGAZINE
  20. Glock fangirls will buy. In numbers. Remember when the thinking was that Glock needed to make a 17 slide on a 19 frame and it would be the perfect gun. But instead Glock made a 17 frame with a 19 slide and people went nuts for it! Glock fangirls will fangirl, no matter what Glock tells them they need.
  21. Man that brings back some memories. My dad and I were huge Nascar Die Cast collectors. I still have everything new in packages in my attic. Davey Allison was my favorite driver so its always cool to see Davey stuff.
  22. Older. Think more WWI era.
  23. This is the risk you run when you put too much stock of your company out there. If you don't want this to happen, never have an IPO or always make sure that you retain at least 51% ownership.
