It's not Constitutional Carry but Permitless Carry. But you aren't wrong. -

I'm well aware of what passed. And it wasn't just the Senate version but the Senate version AS AMENDED. And the Senate version as amended contained the language "lawfully present." -

True constitutional carry would be anyone can carry any gun anywhere. This bill allows people over 21 to carry a handgun in some places. -

First off, NO ONE ever said that this should be mandatory. Additionally, if you read my posts on this subject, I've specifically mentioned funding this OUTSIDE of tax revenue. I, personally, am against adding any type of firearms curriculum to public school. First, thats just tax payer funded. Secondly, our public schools are full up with pretty liberal types. Are they the ones that you want teaching kids about firearms? You also seem to be focused on safety. But a program like this could have additional benefits. A lot of people never have an opportunity to be around guns in a safe environment. Free training courses that can remove some stigma surrounding guns and ease some concerns could be a major boon for our pro second amendment fights in the future. If people who are on the fence or completely ignorant get a little taste, even if they don't want to pursue it further, they could end up bending to our side and becoming allies. A program like this could have far reaching effects and strengthen our stance for decades to come. Now having said all of that, you seem incredibly upset over something that is, at this point, fictional. -

Rob, with the language that passed, you will be able to carry as long as you lawfully possess the handgun and and are in a place that you are "lawfully present." There are exclusions as to where you can carry without having a permit. My suggestion is give this a few months and handgunlaw.us should have a pretty good outline of what you can do. -

I have some ideas on funding that don't require any tax dollars but I won't share those until I can research farther and speak with some politicians. -
I'm no lawyer, but I don't think it's necessary. I believe that those parts of the code justify the use of force, up to and including deadly force, rather than making a distinction.

Antonio Parkinson is actually my representative and I fully intend to contact him and see what we can put together. The sticking point for me is going to be where the money comes from. I support a system like this but financing is going to be my big yay or nay point. I'm anxious to see what Representative Parkinson and I can come up with, assuming that he is actually willing to put this forward and wasn't just talk for the camera. If that turns out to be the case, I'll contact Representative Lamberth. -

This has been my stance from the get go. Rather than chastise people for what we didn't get, we take what we can and continue to fight. -

A person in TN that meets the requirements to get a permit, can carry legally without a permit. Some of the progress that has recently been made for permit holders, guns in parks for instance, will not extend to a permitless carrier. The fight hasn't stopped. We still have a little ways to go to get this to be true constitutional carry but this was the largest bite. -
You do not need to carry the original and I would advise against it. You should keep a copy, physical or digital, with you when you have your NFA item in case it is requested by an ATF agent. How often do you encounter an agent? Rarely, but better safe than sorry.

For anyone interested, I put together some highlights from the video stream. These are things that I found funny or interesting. There were more but I didn't want to record the entire hour. -

@Worriedman, I'm going to back up because I think you have misunderstood me and I'm getting close to getting myself in trouble. I'm not your enemy. We are on the same side and want the same thing. But you and your boss seem to be idealists. You want it all or you are just unhappy. Or maybe my previous statement is correct and John would be happy if it never passed so that he can continue to fear monger across the state in the name of fundraising. I hope that the latter isn't true. I am a realist. I understand that we cannot win this fight in one fell swoop. The other side took small bites away at a time. The only way that we can win it back is one small piece at a time. So I don't look for perfect. It's government, it will never be perfect. I look for realistic options that will move the needle in our direction. We have not had a truly friendly governor in this state in quite some time. Get what we can when we can each session and before you know it, we have made big dent. Now, you asked me some personal questions. How many sessions have I attended on this matter? None. I have a job and responsibilities. I can't get to Nashville. But I work at the grassroots level. I spread the word and encourage discourse with senators and representatives regarding active legislation. I was incredibly active a few years back when we removed restrictions on knives in this state. I'm well familiar with the process. You aren't schooling me on anything. I know the system and how it works. But I know that it doesn't happen overnight. Let's keep working on it. As for the future, at what point is the TFA going start working to get rid of Defense to Prosecution language? I'd argue that is as equally important of a fight as constitutional carry. -

You are putting words in my mouth. I didn't say there was any harm. I simply said that the amendment was offered AGAIN as Amendment 12 and received a whopping 24 votes. -

Tell the whole story. And one of those amendments was refiled as Amendment 12 and although it wasn't filed timely, it was voted on and shot down. -

To the lay person, your "commercials" sound exactly the opposite. So what you put in a writeup may say differently, but what you put into snippets and sound bites sure makes me seem correct. -

Once again the TFA does not support the bill that has a chance to pass. The fear mongering is amazing. Instead of passing what we can when we can and then working on plugging away in future legislative sessions, we will pass nothing and get nothing. -
-
I wish I could figure out where they are.
-
So about the bill... It passed out of the House Finance Ways and Means committee after basically zero conversation about the financial impact of the bill.
-
It's a good start. But the TFA will never be happy with a bill. If they pass it, there won't be any reason for them to exist and they won't be able to fear monger to make you give them money anymore.
