My .223 contender will do sub MOA groups easy, if I do my part

I was out in Utah a few months ago and stopped by a local gun shop. They were advertising a varmint hunting contest for the upcoming weekend. A chuck contest I think they called it. He said they would probably have about 20 teams of shooters and biggest chuck would win the jackpot. The interesting part was that when I inquired about shooting distances, he said most wouldn't take shots any closer than 200 yds. (not sporting enough) that 400-500 was the norm. And I'm thinking, heck 200 yds. in TN is about tops!

A 17 would be neat, supposed to be a fairly quiet shooter. You'd also need a 17 cal. cleaning rod and stuff. At a buck fifty a shot, ouch.

Stopped by a gshop today and noticed they had a couple of boxes of 17 Rem. kinda pricey $30/box.

I'd like to use my .223 contender with 14" bbl. Have used it to take a number of crows and groundhogs over the years. The thin jacketed bullets work great. Guessing the same load would work well for yotes. Saw one here a couple of months ago, man it was huge. Thought it was somebody's dog at first.

If it were a good pelt. What is done with them? Sell 'em? Make a hat?

I ran upon a web site a while back that had instructions on how to make your own electronic call and some downloadable MP3 files of what should be played. Anybody ever try it? I had all the parts laying around and fixed one up, but don't know enough about how electronic calls are supposed to sound to know if this setup is any good. I watched the Big O tonight on channel 4, NBC. Figured nobody could spin it better than they could so why not go for broke. About half way through I was getting a bit bored , so I thought I'd check out the on-screen schedule and see what was coming up after his holiness. Interesting, I wasn't aware any directors had been able to come to agreement with the author's family regarding film rights. I knew they had been approached several times over the years, but never agreed because the films never rang true to the story. Will be interesting to see how one would come out. Although I'll probably be disappointed, it would be difficult to pack in everything the book does.

There is no motive in government, anything without motive will never achieve any goals. To make health care work you don't take the profit out, but develop methods of commerce so that smart minds can figure out how to effectively and efficiently manage outcomes. both on the provider's end and on the consumer's end. No other business in the world works the way health care works in this country. You go to the Dr. because your leg hurts. The Dr. fixes you up, great. You leave happy. How much did your happiness cost? It's impossible for you to find out. Did it cost $50 or $500? What other industry in the world operates in a way that masks the cost? Had you known that the pain in your leg was going to cost $500 to fix, you might have decided it really wasn't all that bad, or you might have said I don't care how much it costs ME, fix it! But when someone else is calling the shots, your decision to manage your own health care flies out the window. How many estimates did you get the last time you had something done around the house? Maybe you needed a new roof, or some replacement windows installed. Did you just call up the first listing in the phone book and say "come on out?" No, you got estimates. You put a value on the service and then made a decision on what to do. I went to the dentist last week. He told me to make an appt. to come back and have some bonding put on my tooth near the gum so it wouldn't be so sensitive. I said ok. I pay for all my own dental work so I asked the receptionist when leaving for an estimate of the bonding procedure. She told me about $200. Well, for me right now, it's not worth $200. I'll just be more careful when brushing on that side of my mouth. I did not make an appointment. By getting a cost estimate of the procedure I could compare the value and make a decision. I may choose to have it done later. The point is, as long as we continue to demand service without knowing the cost, or just expect a third party to ante up and take care if it all, costs will never be contained no matter who is in charge-- CEOs or Uncle Sam. With government health care reform we'll end up relinquishing part of our liberty and freedom for nothing more than a hollow promise. These are times to be willing to stand up and fight. Health care reform is an unlimited encroachment on both, take a stand against it now.

yep, I'd say that's true. I'm waiting in the reserved line for the Fountain Head now. I had listened the abridged version of AS some years ago on the way to Fla. for vacation, it was 10 hours long!! The full version is so richly described. Thinking is important. We have too many people getting paid not to think these days.

I just finished Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, 62 hours but worth every minute. Got it from the library in MP3 format. A great read (or listen) if you've got the time.

I wonder if those mags would work with an old acchison .22 conversion kit? I've got one I use but would like to have another mag.

For years I've put a "vote against Bart Gordon" sign in my yard during election cycles. It's pitiful that the republicans have been so dead at the wheel in the 6th and 5th districts. I think we do have a good candidate to vote for this next time around in the 6th. She's a constutionalist all the way.

I couldn't remember if it was this weekend or last, I didn't go. With the fairgrounds closing I guess the gun show there is over. Wonder where it will move to?

guess you're the same pvt. over on 1919a4.com, welcome to the TN fourm. I lurk around over there quite a bit, lots of good discussions and people staying on top of stuff that interests me.-- squeaked through the lower group buy by the skin of my teeth, was one of the lucky ones I guess.

I remember the guy during Katrina that stayed put. Even had a porta-potty on his porch. Kept the scumbags away with his shotgun and used liquor as payment for getting his porta-potty cleaned. He had a room full of liquor for trade. Several months ago a local liquor store went belly up. I stopped in on one of the last few days and picked up some tradin' goods. Got a pretty good deal. Nothing I drink but I figure when times get tough, there's a segment of the population that will do most anything for a bottle of the hard stuff. Have put back some silver coins, too. Gold is too hard to deal with. Silver coins on the other hand are small, sized to a specific value even though the value may change you'll always know what you're getting or giving.

those are all good, I was wondering if junk yards might give you a couple of car doors? I think everyone would enjoy punching holes in car doors.

I'm considering having some people over who have expressed an interested in shooting a couple of guns. Probably an AK, AR and a pistol or two. They really aren't gun guys, I just wanted to see if I can get them interested. They will be CLOSELY SUPERVISED, but I would like for it to be fun for them too. Silhouettes at 100 yards is probably not going to cut it. I made a couple of little spinners for .22s that are fun, buy haven't been able to think of anything else. It's always more to shoot at something and hit it than not.
