  1. I think I saw one at Outpost Armory a couple of weeks ago, might not have been the charlie model though. Have seem a couple come up lately on Guns America.
  2. for a car gun it'd be hard to beat, prices have come down come some.
  3. I bought a 1000 sight unseen because I didn't have any .308 laying around to speak of and it was a decent price. My first range trip was disappointment as the first round stuck in the chamber (homebuilt FAL). Managed to get the bolt jacked back and the case ejected. Tried it again, same thing. Put it away for the rest of the day. Later I checked everything over and couldn't find anything wrong so I cranked the gas way down and tried it again. Functioned perfect! I had been shooting a little surplus ammo and some WW white box in brass cases. I noticed the recoil of the Brown bear was less and felt under powered, so I guess that's the reason it wouldn't run at the same setting as the other ammo. I've also heard some of the belt fed guys complaining about the steel case and some of them actual spray a bit of lube on the cases just before firing.
  4. Actually, my recollection was that prices were fairly reasonable pre 85. Of course money was worth more then, but the $200 tax was still a big hurdle for ownership. Today the $200 tax is chicken feed. Imagine what the $200 meant in 1934 when it was passed! We're just lucky they didn't think about tying the tax to inflation or cost of living back in 1934. I'm sort of surprised the issue hasn't come up since. In the early 80s I remember two specific Thompson's that were for sale with FBI hard cases, multiple drums and stick mags selling for around $2500, and had a tough time finding a buyer. I bought an UZI and colt M16, both for less than $600 ea. along with an AC556. Mac 10s around $200, I turned down a Mac 10 for $100 because it was cheaper than the tax and that just didn't seem right--- dooh. Ramo .50s in the $5000 range I believe. Hindsight is 20-20.
  5. Looks like Gallatin Gun Club range. I bought a Mossberg model 44 back in the 80s, paid $85 which wasn't all that sweet at the time, but it was a neat gun. Had Property of US gov't stamped on it. It's one of the best shooting rifles I have. Has a full length stock. When I first got it I left it pretty much in as received condition. The stock was a little dinged, had sticky varnish and was not a looker at all. One of my buddy's buddy thought if you didn't have a top notch gun you couldn't expect it to group good. He had nothing but $600 rifles. I finally had enough of it so we had a 50 yard shoot off against his Kimber .22. I smoked him, he shut up after that. I've since bought two more Mossbergs from the CMP. Both were sold as rusty and I think they too were $85. Both are tack drivers. When one came in pre drilled for a Mossberg scope mount I put an old externally adjustable brass tube 4X on it. Man it's retro to the max. and it's a beauty.
  6. that's exactly the reason I'm using a homemade outfit right now. Guess maybe some repairs are in order.
  7. That's what I couldn't figure out with the Hume model. The one they showed on their web site would have been for a lefty, which is unusual to show, unless the flat part is to the body. I like carrying mine with the gun butt pointing left in the right hip pocket. The reversible is a good idea, as long as it's not too bulky.
  8. Looks like several other states are taking the same tact. Be interesting to see where it goes.
  9. One if the best things I like about my .32 and my wife has one also, is that I bought up a bunch of FN surplus .32 ammo a while back, about $5 a box so we get some practice in on the cheap. I've run well over 1000 rnds. through mine and probably close to that through hers.
  10. I regularly carry a Keltec .32 with the top two rounds being cor-bons and the rest Fiochi FMJ. The Cor-bons are really short and I don't trust them not to rim lock below the first mag. round. I do carry in my back pocket with a custom wallet holster. It stays fairly clean and I've taken it out on numerous occasions and fired it without cleaning just to see if it would work after carrying it. It does. I alternate between it and a Kel-tec P11 9mm, depending on where I'm going and how I'm dressed. Though I find myself carrying the .32 more often. I can dump a mag inside 6" at 20' pretty easily and pretty fast. It would need to be reserved for up close and personal work. Although I have shot Bianchi plates at 25 yards with some concentration. I've also shot 55 gal. drums fairly close and the rounds bounced off. Wonder if a perps head is about as tough as a drum?
  11. I was a bit skeptical, but my son really wanted to see it so we made it a father son affair. We both enjoyed it. The tree hugger/liberal theme was there, but less in your face than what I expected and no more than most other movies. Actually if you imagine the bad guys (the ones with guns) as being our current administration trying to ram something down our throats, and we, the blue people, fighting back with everything we have, then it's really a good movie. It's all in how you spin it! Did have one unfortunate incident at our showing. Some rude teenagers sitting two rows back apparently checked their manners at the door and wouldn't shut their mouths. They seemed to think everyone around them cared more for what they thought were cute remarks than listening to the movie. I called them down, they were quite after that and avoided me after the show was over. Morons.

    Tommy Gun

NFA stuff only went sky high after 1985. We sold Thompson's for 2K pre 1985. Mac 10s were <$200 and you could get a Ramo .50 for around 5K. Oh, if I'd had some money back then.

  16. If we'd just take the republican party back, that would solve the problem. We wouldn't have to worry about the idiots that always vote party line because our candidate would be it. Kick out the Rhinos, stomp on them, begin at your county level and run'em out. Overwhelm them from within. I've been a third party advocate for years, even back to the Perot, almost win. Unfortunately all it got us was BC. The system has been redesigned over time to exclude any challengers to the two party system. Until we adopt, believe it or not, a system similar to the French we'll never over come the two party system. Actually, I don't think it will ever happen, at least not until the country breaks into smaller parts.
  17. Man, Raven's for $75, we used to sell the crap out of them for $37.50. Inflation is terrible.
  18. I wonder how you make the brass knuckles you are keeping for a "keepsake" inoperable and non functioning? I actually have some that were handed down in the family and I'd hate to get busted because of them. ***hole lawyers.
  19. just got this from Midway, pretty cheap if it's any good Lohman Invisi-Predator Digital Predator Call with Remote - MidwayUSA
  20. One passed right in front of my wife as she was coming up the drive last summer, chasing a deer. While bushogging I found the front leg of a deer from about the knee down just laying on a big flat rock. Was fairly fresh, looked to be off a full grown deer. Not sure if yotes did it or not, thought it was kinda weird.
  21. reloaders bench does not carry it, I've asked. used to be a place in Hendersonville that carried it, don't even know if they are still in business. It was not Hunts, but another place.
  22. I think that's Lou Ann Zelnick you're thinking of. And yes she talks a conservative line just as many of them do, and I believe her. And you're right, they all talk a good game, but I've met Zelnick and believe she is the real deal. They are coming out of the woodwork just as I suspected. Two more throw their hats into the ring on the heels of Bart's revelation. They wouldn't jump in on a hard fight, but are great spoilers. http://blogs.knoxnews.com/humphrey/2009/12/tracy-announces-for-congress.html
  23. The republicans need to take about as much heat in the 6th district as Bart, they haven't run anyone against him in the last two election cycles!! They just ***kin' gave up. I don't know why they didn't see the writing on the wall way back. Four years ago an independent candidate got nearly 25% of the vote. At least this time we'll have some decent candidates for what appears to be an open seat. And at least one of the candidates running is a true constitutional conservative. The only down side is that with Bart's announcement and a wide open seat, other Republicans may now slither out of the woodwork, and because of their party buds, may stand a better chance of getting elected than the real conservatives we need and who are fighting the fight right now. I only hope it doesn't lead to a Corker/Alexander-esk stuffed shirt going to DC. That's the last thing we need.
  24. here's an nice collection of MP3 files for yote calling if you have built a homemade e-caller. Some of the mix tracks seem really good. MS Custom Calls MP3 List
