How far are you moving when you pull up stakes? Say you call 20 min. and nothing. Where are you moving to, other side of the hill or getting in your truck and heading down the road a few miles. I've got a good visible area where I can see 3 or 400 yards on one side of a hill, then if I walk over to the other side of the hill I can see the same in just the opposite direction. Would you call both sides, or if you call on one and nothing it's likely you'll have no luck on the other either? Is late afternoon a good time? Have you ever downloaded mp3 sounds and had luck with them? I rigged up a caller like Varmint Al uses, but didn't really think his medley of calls was very good. I don't think our yotes are going to know what a jackrabbit sounds like, for example.

Solution to the problem arrived this week. Made final adjustments last night. Waiting.

my grandmother had one, RG10, I have it now. Shot it many years ago. Everything on it wiggles, trigger, trigger guard, front sight, barrel, grips-- you name it, it wiggles. I remember trying to hit a milk jug with it. Started at about 10 yards, moved up to kicking range of the milk jug, haven't it it yet. Junkie gun, but does have some sentimental value for me. I'm always on the look out for elcheapo pistols like this, picked up cheap they have great potential for government run gun buy back programs :D

I never thought a coyote would would attack large animals like a deer. Last fall when doing my year end bushoging I found lying on a big flat rock the lower end of a deer leg, severed at the knee. It was just lying there. Pretty decent sized, certainly not off a fawn. Couldn't think of anything other than a yote doing it, but surprised they would go after such a large animal. Next day I drove by the big flat rock and it was gone. Guess they came back for it.

Ok, so here's what prompted me to start this thread in the first place. I had another run in with coyotes Monday night. Dogs were having a fit near the fence in the back yard. Both of them. Usually when they are both barking it really is something. I turn on the eve lights and walk out on the porch, but can't see anything. Dogs still at the fence barking. I can now hear growling, lots of growling, more than what my two dogs could do. Come in and get the flashlight. Shine it in their direction and just across the fence I can see 3 sets of eyeballs. Come in get the closest loaded thing I can pick up, a .30 carbine. Go back out and they are still there, but can't make out who the eyeballs belong to. I'm pretty sure it's yotes, but could be neighbor dogs. I shine the light on one while walking toward the fence. I continue to keep his eyes lit up and walk the 30 yards or so to the fence. He and his buddies are still there, about 50 ft. the other side of the fence! I could not believe they didn't scram. It's dark as everything even with the eve lights at my back, and I can't get the sights to show up on the carbine. I put the front sight on one of them and guess at the back sight. With the flashlight and at this range I can see him turn to the side, a good size yote for sure. I pull the trigger but it's a miss. Just couldn't tell where I was aiming with that little peep sight. I climbed the fence to see if I had drawn any blood or if they had retreated back a little ways, but they were gone altogether and no signs of a hit. I hear them all the time and you never know how close they are, but these were basically in the back yard! If it hadn't been for the fence I imagine they would have already tangled with my dogs. If I had known they would let me get that close I would have taken the shotgun, would have had one then. Still can't believe I was able to get that close. That's the second close encounter in as many months. So far yotes 2 me 0. I'm needing a plan to even the odds and protect my animals. I never see or hear any of these guys in the daylight, seems like they are pretty bold at night though. Now every time one of the dogs barks I"m up looking out the window.

I don't think I ever said anything about hunting anything at night.
-
when I see them in the daytime around here I relocate them...... to the hereafter for skunks!!
-
Oh yeah, beavers, my father inlaw has a beaver problem. They are pesky little devils, flood his property. Have been asked to eliminate some of those too.
-
So, I've got these pests that keep bothering me. Mostly they seem to bother me at night. Usually it's skunks and yotes, mainly yotes. If'n I had a night vision rig could I eliminate these pests? Spotlighting game I know is a no no if done for sport. And while it might be a little fun to bag a yote at night, it would be mainly for elimination due to peskiness.

Hard to beat Unique. Yeah, maybe a little dirty but I shoot a lot of cast lead with a lube groove so it's gonna be dirty regardless. If I were going to stock pile some powder for a rainy day, Unique would be a big part of it. -

While I would generally agree with minding your own business so to speak relative to statewide elections, and not meddling in others decisions, but BF is a major problem for everyone not just his people in MA. We can keep our own house in order all we want, but it's his ilk that's screwing up things for everyone. If he can be taken out I'm down for helping do it. I've never contributed to out of state races before this election cycle, but on the national level we're just not in a position here in Tn to make many waves. I've chosen three out of state races I'm backing with contributions because even though those candidates never visit TN, their incumbent opponents are sure screwing us all. -
My son and I have put thousands of rounds through mine and it's a fairly early one, 4 digit serial. It is picky about the ammo. Federal bulk is a no go, but the Federal also won't shoot reliably in a Marlin 60 either. Remington bulk is fine and other "better" ammo works well. The only complaint I have is mine seems to shoot low. I've put the shortest front post on that it came with, but need one a bit shorter. Been meaning to call S&W and see if they can send me one. It's a fun little gun.

I seem to remember Coonan making a .357 autoloader some years ago. Looked like a 1911. Don't think they ever made many.

Yes, yes repeal the 17th amendment. It's amazing how one little change can screw things up so badly. The senators are their to look after their individual states. The representatives are there to represent their constituents. It's called part of the check and balance system with the state ultimately holding the triumph card. Until we wake up and start asserting our states rights, reacquainting ourselves with the process of nullification and interposition as our founders designed, we're never going to get control over the fed. govt. -
I've just made a donation to Sean Bielat's campaign. He's the first candidate with any chance of unseating Barney Frank in nearly 30 years. As everyone here should know, Barney has been an enemy of the second amendment for years. Not to mention all the other crap this moron is for and has promoted/caused, the least of which is our current economic situation. I encourage everyone that can make a contribution to Mr. Frank's opponent. Sean is a stand-up guy and needs our help. Throw the b**tards out!! Sean Bielat for Congress | Official Site

Could be called the Jethro Bodine solution. Or, the first good use of a Fram filter.

kinda reminds me of those prairie dog videos, except with mountains.

Never thought I'd see the day that Prince Poppycock would be in a title on TGO But I must admit I've watched him, the wife likes the show. It's almost like you can't not look and that's scary.

WOW! If this pans out there's a lesson to be learned.

Looks like the big O has weighed in on the burning now. We've got about a day and a half before the event. Anybody want to lay odds on some sort of "situation" that causes the government to take action and prevent the pastor from carrying out his plans? The whole thing is a bonehead move on the pastor's part. But come on people, it's paper with ink smeared on it. It's printed the same way every other book is printed. It doesn't come out of the bindery with a magical glowing aura around it.
