  1. my son suggested a counter weight that could be changed out. I hadn't really thought about that but it sounds like a good idea. I was thinking more along the lines of a torsion spring. Counter weight would probably work better and easier to adjust.
  2. gander mtn. is offering 300 rnd mini mags for $24 w/ free shipping Thursday only. Sold out in store but the free shipping is good.
  3. I'm thinking about making a plate rack to permanently install at my range. Anybody else done this?   I've shot them before at other places and they see like pretty good practice and fun too. The ones I've shot before have been the traditional falling plate with a pull rope to reset. I was thinking about making one with an auto reset to eliminate the rope. Something like this: http://www.salutetargets.com/gravity-plate-rack.html   Kinda upside down from the standard falling rack.    I've already ordered some AR500 3/8" plates, 8" in diameter. My question is what would it take to hit the plates and have them lock in the up position? The one in the video uses 5.5 inch plates and they are shooting it with .45s mostly. My concern is that a 9mm might not lock it up and certainly a .380 would be iffy.   With the regular falling type rack there's usually an adjustment built in so that even .22s can knock them over.    I like the idea of blasting through them without having to stop and reset. But it's not going to be much fun if they don't lock up.
  4. AIM AK ammo is gone :yuck:
  5. i don't think they take insurance, credit card and wait for shipping
  6. I think I'll drop by the old man tool store and check one out
  7. You should check zenni. My progressives were less than $100
  8. Yeah, I know, it would be a fight. I haven't been out on BF in several years.
  9. bass pro is running one on black friday for $79. Looks like reviews are midlin, but then all reviews in this price range are like that. Figure it would be easy to return if its a dog.
  10. Yes I'm cheap. I'm just looking for something to use at the range. I'm not expecting it to be crystal clear but it does need to be clear enough to check targets at 200-300 yards. What's a good value model?
  11. Zenni is good. I bought three pair a while back one was a grand total of $7, I"m using them right now. Later I purchased some no line bifocals and they were less than a $100 I think. You can't beat them.
  12. If they will take me this is the way I'm going to have to go. My family share will be right around $500 with a $5000 deductible which beats obamacare by almost $1000 per month.   A buddy of mine has had it for about 2 years and has given it good marks.
  13. The my grandfather health insurance policy is now canceled at the end of the year due to obamacare I'm looking for alternatives. Being self employed the new premiums under the Affordable Care Act (what a joke) will basically leave me without insurance, or at least any I can afford. ($775 previously, now $1,403)   These two cooperatives work kinda like insurance in that a larger group pays bills for each other, though it's not actually insurance. It's a private affair with a heavy emphasis on Christian relationships. Joining one exempts you from paying the IRS penalty under obamacare. Each of them works a little differently, but just trying to see if anyone has had personal experience with either of them.
  14. these are made in Lebanon and I've seen a couple sizes and look nice. Not sure of the cost.   https://www.surecanusa.com/
  15. Last turkey shoot of the season is tomorrow the 7th. We had a great time last Saturday and handed out a truck load of hams, bacon and turkey. We'll have mostly hams and bacon this time with just a few turkeys. We also do money rounds with $30 payouts and scatter in a few shooters choice rounds with the winner's picking the prize.   We had a number of ladies and young shooters last week which was nice to see. Come on out and shoot a few and you may even take home some good eatin'!   The Wilson County fairgrounds is easy to find, just drive down Peyton Rd. on the south side and you'll see us off to the left. It's a little easier than going through the main gate.  It's a great cause and a lot of fun, come join us.
  16. bcbt dropped me due to non compliant policy, had it for about 10 years. Premiums have increased so this year I was paying $775 for self wife and one dependent, $6k deductable. I received my options from the agent yesterday. The closest plan to what I've got this year is going to be around $1400 with a little higher deductible. So basically next year I'm looking at $17k in premiums and if I want to actually use the plan I'm into it for $23k.    Looks like I'll be paying the penalty and using the ER like all the illegals.
  17. Y'all don't have to worry. Soon enough we'll all be squeeling for a single payer system. The fix was in from the get go
  18. they patched tires on two of my vehicles. tires which I did not buy there as they were on the vehicles when I got them. never charged a penny either time. You bet I went back there when I needed tires on both vehicles. It was about $1500. I'd say those patch jobs paid off.
  19. closest to the center wins. Shoot offs for ties. All guns allowed as long as the barrel is not over 36". 12, 16, 20ga and .410 shells are provided.   It's a fun event for a good cause and some pretty good eatin' if you're a winner.
  20. Come out this weekend to the Wilson County fairgrounds and have some fun and maybe win something for supper! We'll be starting around 8am and run through 2pm. Bring your shotgun or use one of our loaners. We'll be shooting for whole country hams, slabs of bacon and of course turkeys. We might even slip in some money rounds. Ammo is provided and all shotguns are legal as long as the barrel is 36" or under.   All proceeds go toward restoration of the 7th TN CSA infantry flag currently in storage at the TN state museum. This is the flag that General Hatton would have used to muster in troops right here in Wilson county and surrounding areas.   It's great fun and for a great cause. Bring the family we had a couple of eight year olds win last year, and you can't get a bigger grin on a kid's face than when he brings home the bacon, literally!
  21. bet the car had an automatic transmission, an assault car if I've ever seen one.
  22. I seem to recall some of the early 59s were problematic. I don't shoot my P35 much but would like to have an Argentine one to shoot.
  23. Back years ago, probably mid 70s, I had an uncle that was blind. He received a number of periodicals via cassette tape and in braille. One of the braille publications he received every month was Playboy. It was a two volume set every month. He seemed to enjoy it, and I looked, there were no feel'em up photos included. I wish I had kept a copy.

    Stripped frame

I have built two over the years. Still have one of them, sold the other. There is usually some slide/frame fitting required and you'll have to fit the barrel/link and slide. You might be able to buy some complete drop in barrels these days, but usually to have an accurate gun they will need to be fitted. You can probably also benefit from custom fitting the hammer/sear for a good trigger pull. They certainly don't go together like an AR which I would classify as snap together. AKs are a closer example if you make your own receiver for them. With 1911s you're also more likely to want something in the end that's accurate, not so much so with the AK. Tolerances on the 1911 are night and day different from an AK.   It's likely not cheaper than buying one already made, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be. I enjoy projects like this and do it because I like doing it. You can also dress it up with checkering and other personal touches. I considered building another one a few weeks ago when PSA ran a special on the frames, but decided I had enough projects going now already.
