Attention all old men, your tool store is opening in Lebanon!
seez52 replied to seez52's topic in General Chat
A buddy of mine has one. Seems to work fine, I'd be concerned about getting it fixed. Another buddy wanted an utv but didn't want to spend the bucks on a name brand. Bought a Chinese one in a crate. Biggest pile of junk. No parts available eventually sold it for 1/10th of what he paid. -

anything on a grand opening event? I would expect some extra discounts. -
when I put my info in it comes up with two different lines. Both are the same offer but different tracking numbers. Anyone else get this?

Welp, we made it back and actually had a great time. Was able to get tickets from Diane Black's office. The young lady there was terrific and so helpful. Was in the nosebleed area I guess, but the rest of the rabble was behind us. Crowd was very energized and only saw small pockets of protesters usually 6 or less. Lots of shouts at Schumer while he was speaking, boos, yelling at him to sit down, some said "get a hook" no rowdiness but lots of yelling at him and as Hillary was shown on the screen. Our section was not nearly full, all the others seemed to be as well as the general admission areas. Lots of rooftop observation. At least two helicopters constantly overhead. I was privileged to be wanded at every security checkpoint, but they were nice about it. Tried to go back on Saturday to take in some of the sights, but due to the pussy hats we couldn't see anything. Tons of people and barricades everywhere. Did spend some time at Arlington, but that was about it. Overall it was a great trip and I'm glad my family was able to go. It really was an exciting place to be.

Just posting an update for those that may be in a similar situation. I have become more satisfied with this setup. I had to return my original router to 4Gcommunnity. It worked just so-so and over a few days it finally got to where it was changing IP numbers about every 20 seconds or so, pretty much making it unusable. 4GCommunity was exceptional to work with. I called tech service and they were backed up so I left my number. It took them a while to call back but they were very helpful. Apparently the 6100D is about 3 year old technology and Sprint has made upgrades that this particular router can't handle and there is no update. It's apparently a geographic issue and sometimes they work sometimes not depending on where you are. They agreed to take it back without issue. Just had to pay shipping, basically both ways. I noticed they no longer offer the 6100D on their website. He did recommend the premium package with the ZTE hotspot. It's the newest technology they offer and said it actually picks up better than the one I had with external antennas. So I ordered it and am really pleased. i get at least as good a reception as the other one and the best part is I'm getting an average of 7Mgb download and often it will run 12-16Mgps. Can't really complain about that for less than $25/mo and not data caps. Being a wireless setup, the speed will vary and sometimes down to 2mb or less. But it usually is slow for only a short time. I'm getting ready to give ATT the boot and their lousy 3mb service that never goes that fast.

Have they quit making .22WMR? UPDATE: NOW IN THE WILD
seez52 replied to seez52's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
22 WMR now seen in the wild! Was by Academy in Mt. Juliet on Thursday and they actually had some Hornady 30gr. in stock sitting right there on the counter! Couldn't believe it. $14/box not a bad price. Employee said I could get 500 rnds. I bought one box. Guy in front of me bought 3. First I'v seen in years. Guy behind the counter said it was the first case they have had in about 2 years. -

Their little free flashlights really work pretty good. And unbelievably the batteries last longer than I would expect for free chineeze. I've never had much luck with anything from them that is supposed to cut, or sand. Did weld a bunch of AK receivers with one of their spot welders though. -
I tried to get tickets from my three representatives but no luck. Guess I don't have enough pull. Going anyway. I figure it might be the last one I'm at all interested in. Looks like the weather won't be bitterly cold. Taking a bus trip package so I don't have to deal with the traffic and getting around. I hope there is some excitement, but not too much if you know what I mean.

That's right, a brand new Old Man Tool Store (Harbor Freight) is opening right here in Lebanon. Should have doors open by end of the month. Next door to TSC. And if you're wondering why it's called The Old Man Tool Store the next time you there just look around. All us cheap old Geezers will be there.

Gallatin Gun Club License To Operate at Steam Plant (Since 1962) TERMINATED
seez52 replied to GS455's topic in General Chat
kinda figured, I had wondered if the contract was written to be based on a per acre price or just a price for the whole. I was a little disappointed when looking at the range plans that there was not plans for something longer than 300 yards. Looked like it got pretty steep past 300. -
when we built our house 12 years ago I installed an Omni automation system. That was about all that was available at the time. It relies heavily on X10. When first installed it worked pretty good. Seems like over time it has become unreliable. Great as an alarm system, but not so much on the automation part. I can program it, but the X10 is the killer. Can I integrate the zwave stuff into Omni or am I just better off starting over?

Sad to hear the Hwy. 231 property deal has fallen through. Maybe they find one similarly close by. -
I bought an Oehler model 12 about 30+ years ago. I think it was $99 which seemed like a bunch then. Worked great but it was real crazy scientist looking when you used it. It was analog with a knob and meter. You'd turn the knob to various fixed numbered positions and the needle would read either yes or no. Once you got a four digit number you would match it to a reference chart to get the actual velocity. You'd have to do that after each shot. Always reminded me of the kid on A Christmas Story when he was using his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring. It would be cool today, but not very practical. I still have it. Used it a couple of years ago and it worked just great. Problem is somebody decided to try and chrono a shotgun and blew one of the screens apart. Replacement screens were more expensive than a new digital unit.

I don't know why it took so long to get all this in place. Uninsured motorists are a huge problem. I've always thought having to carry uninsured motorist insurance is ridiculous in a state where insurance is required.

yes we did. It rained in there a lot due to being cold outside and warm/humid on the inside. I run a dehumidifier but am planning to take it out and build an air transfer duct to see if I can get away without it. But, the main thing that fixed the condensation was sticking 3/4 inch foam insulation to the ceiling. I tried gluing it but it would eventually come down. I used fender washers and a Paslode gas powered nail gun and shot nails right into the ceiling. Hasn't come down again! You'll also need to tape the joints between the sheets. Use Tyvek tape and it will be there forever.

This one is fairly simple and it opens into the safe room. I had my carpenter build a self contained book shelf unit that fit the opening taking into consideration that the finished trim will cover the crack all the way around. The shelf unit will need to be hinged from the back so that it opens properly. To do this I used a pretty good sized piece of angle iron, 3" and about 5' long I think, which is lag bolted to the framing of the opening. I welded three heavy duty hinges to the angle iron then a smaller piece of angle (1") to the other side of the hinges. This smaller piece attaches to the back edge of shelf unit; it runs full length of the shelf unit. I also added a diagonal steel cable across the back with a turnbuckle so I could adjust the the height of the non hinged side. I figured we would have books and so forth on the shelves and didn't think, over time, it would hold up to being loaded. It actually swings really well. I mounted a deadbolt lock in the top of the shelf unit and made an adjustable strike out of a short piece of angle iron. I can pull the shelf tightly closed, set the lock and it looks normal. If someone knew it was there it would be easy to kick in. Hopefully it's camouflaged enough that no one will find it. It also has it's own alarm contact, anytime the door opens I get a phone call whether the house alarm is activated or not. One issue that came up was that the rough framed opening was not completely plumb from one side to the other. It was sort of twisted. We had to fix that the best we could before starting. Make sure the framing crew is real particular about it and they use good straight wood for that part of your build. I still have a little more reveal on one side than the other but it's not noticeable unless you know what you're looking for. I also have dark finished wood trim rather than white painted trim so any cracks blend in well.

We did however create two separate safe rooms in the house. One is on the main level and is hidden behind movable bookshelves. So far no visitor has been able to find it. The other is in the basement and is mainly a storm shelter and for ammo storage. It's under the front porch which makes the room about 7x33'. It has rebar reinforced walls all the way around (poured cores) and a reinforced concrete ceiling that's about 8" thick plus a brick paver on top. There is only about 18" above ground.

I've got two CZ52s just because they were so cheap, fun and cheap to shoot. And you don't have to look for brass! And of course multiple ARs (and AKs) don't count, right?
-
When we built I considered adding some large concrete sewer pipe perpendicular to the basement, 4 ft. or so in diameter or possible one of the oval styles sit on its side. Was going to extend it out to the edge of the hill and make a door of some sort. Was also going to set it up for an indoor shooting tube of sorts with a movable target mechanism. But didn't do it. I figured the pipe itself could be installed water tight, but didn't really feel confident the connection inside the basement would be. We were using block. If you used poured walls you could probably make it work. Still, probably not a cheap addition and most builders are not going to want to fool with it.

my son has a PPS M1 version. Haven't shot it a bunch but it was pretty nice. It's accurate and does not kill your hand for a small gun. Nice trigger.

My router arrived! Not super enthused about it, but not completely disappointed. Received it in 7 days of ordering from 4gcommunity.org, it was shipped from Pennsylvania. So far everything is as advertised. It's a legit program due in part to a court settlement regarding a company that Sprint bought out then shut down. The only disappointing part is I'm not getting the speed I had hoped. Sprint just does not have particularly good service in my location. The router is supplied by Sprint and you basically plug it in and it works. Seems to be a nice unit with two antenna. It's a Netgear 6100D. It has 4 ethernet ports and has a wireless connection at 2.4 and 5ghz. Initially I just used the wireless part but have now connected it to my wired network and it works as you would expect. I have moved it to a couple of places around the house and get anywhere from one to three bars of reception. Seems like the download speeds are not all that dependent on the reception strength. I had hoped to get 10 Megabits of download speed but it seems I'm usually around 5-6 instead. Oddly my upload is usually around 7-8mbps. It has dropped from time to time to less than one on download, but haven't had it long enough to determine if that's going to be an ongoing issue. I've got 14 days to return it so I'm going to stick it out for now and see how it works out. If it's fairly stable I'll probably keep it as with my wired att dsl I usually get less than 3mgbs. At less than $25/month it's a pretty good deal particularly if you're limited on options as I am. My cell phones are on Verizon and I occasionally set them up as a hotspot and I can usually get 25mbps download speed when I do. There is a huge cell tower less than a mile away and I'm guessing it's got verizon on it, but not Sprint unfortunately. Next week I'm going to take the router to my offfice in town and see if there is better reception and if the download speed is any better.

got mine in yesterday, they were simply in the original box with a label slapped on. There was one corner that was torn, but nothing was missing and the individual boxes were intact. Looks like it had been well handled though.
