  1. One thing that has always interested me is the area of training with a pocket pistol. Sure, it seems pretty simple on it's face value. Just put a gun in your pocket and viola, you're packin'. The problem is I think there is more to it than that. Perhaps there are some good instructors who have studied this application of carrying a pistol for self defense, but I'm yet to find anyone teaching a class for it. I have taken a Tactical pistol class from Range Masters and had a great time. The problem is, my work place prohibits me from carrying a full size handgun (most days). This means most days I must rely upon smaller pistols carried either in my strong side front pants pocket or in an ankle holster, and frankly I've not seen many classes which address this type of carry. All of the classes I see are for full size weapons carried in a strong side holster. I carry both a Sig P238 and a S&W 642, either alone or as a tandem. I wonder if someone has any experience with any sort of formal training with this topic? Anyone have anything? Thanks in advance.
  2. I have one in horse hide, and it is very comfortable. I'm wearing it today to carry my G17. I've owned a Cross Breed Supertuck and I consider Theis just as nice a holster at a lower price. Tommy is a nice guy and my experiences with him have all been very positive. I also noticed on his website he is now making leather belts. May have to order one for myself for Christmas. Good luck with yours, and I look forward to your review.
  3. I lost my first wife to melanoma cancer when she was just 37 years old. My current wife was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago this month. I can tell you from first hand experience when it's you or someone you love, it doesn't matter what type of cancer it is, it ain't a good thing to have to deal with. Trust me it changes r your perspective on a lot of things. Just my $.02.
  4. Hornady Critical Duty 135 gr +P. my G17 loves them. The backup magazine holds 17 Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P.either round should be more than sufficient.
  5. Limp wristing the pistol possibly? They are small and relatively light weight. Smaller 9mms have just enough recoil to induce limp wristing if your form isn't pretty good.
  6. bkelm18 is correct. No FFL is required. Both UPS and FedEx will ship it for him. They simply require that you advise them it is a firearm and then they require that it is shipped overnight. To be clear, the shipping overnight is the company policy, not a law, regardless of what the clerk at Kinko's tells you. I have used FedEx twice to ship guns back to the mothership, both times with no problems. It costs roughly $50 to ship.
  7. http://www.wmctv.com...bed-at-gunpoint A little more information here in this link. The story is still pretty sketchy. They did not even say when this happened, or the name of the suspects or when they were arrested, even after tracking them for four days using the GPS in his cell phone. Something here does not pass the smell test. There is more to this story than the good State Rep is willing to admit to the press. Contrary to his statement in the story, I think this isn't about giving Memphis another black eye. This is about not harming someone's reputation during an election year. Hookers, drugs, homosexual love triangle?....
  8. Very nice Sonny! Glad to see you are doing your part to help the economy recover!!
  9. Congrats on the new G21. I bought a Gen 4 G17 earlier in the year, and it's my all time favorite Glock. It fits my hand better than any Glock I've ever owned. I've not had a minutes trouble with mine. I know some folks had some trouble with the early models, but I think they've ironed out most of the issues now.
  10. very nice. I've owned two RIA's ( though neither was as nice as yours), and they were both very accurate and reliable with any ammo I put in them. congrats on the purchase/trade.
  11. Somewhere G.Gordon LIddy has to be smiling in approval....Bikini babes and machine guns was one of his ideas for calendars years ago, back when he still had his mainstream radio show.
  12. I got one back in January from another TGO member over your way and it has been one of my favorite guns to carry and to shoot. I heard all the bad press early on, but I'm yet to have any problems from mine. Hope you enjoy it!
  13. I was on the fence about this, too, but found a good deal on a 238, so I went ahead and got it. Very pleased with it overall. I can honestly say I don't know what I'll sell to get a 938, but if they turn out as nice a gun as the 238, I'll have to find a way to own one.
  14. For 9mm I like Berry's 115 grain RN plated bullets over 4.5 grains of Unique. Works well for my Glock 17.
  15. This kid is a punk. He and his buddy robbed a guy with a tree limb, and when they got caught he just made up some jibberish. Its just like yelling police brutality because the handcuffs are too tight. He's nothing more than a thug and apparently he's not a very good one.
  16. You might try this link as well. I've found it useful a few times. http://reloadammo.com/reload.htm
  17. If you took the mag disconnector safety out, then you should not need the magazine to reassemble the pistol. I know it is a simple thing, but is the hammer strut in the right place? You might also check out Rimfire Central. com and go to the forum for your pistol and do a search for your trouble.
  18. Thanks, Jonnin. I realize now that I did not word my question properly, but you answered it nonetheless. Thank you.
  19. I have some 100 grain round nose FMJ bullets that I bought for my .380 reloads and I want to load some up for my 9mm. I found a safe starting load listed for the powder, but i'm not finding any information about a minimum OAL. Lyman shows 1.005 for 95 grain FMJ and 1.090 for 115 grain JHP in the 9mm, but no listing for 100 grain RN or FMJ. The average OAL for the first few rounds I've rolled are 1.04. I know the rounds will fit in the chamber, I've dropped them in and they fit fine. My concern is how do you know if they are too short, possibly causing too much pressure?
  20. As a newbie, I recently started out with the single stage Lee Anniversary Kit that I purchased NIB off of eBay. it came with most of the things I needed to get started, and let me get a taste of reloading to see if I was going to enjoy it, and stick with it without investing an arm and a leg. I've now loaded about 700 rounds of 9mm and 38 specials since getting started and I'm hooked. I don't see a progressive press in my immediate future, but I do see the advantages of using one, if you wanted to get started that way. Someone also suggested to me buying a reloading manual first and doing some reading to see what all is involved before spending the money to buy the equipment, and I did. I would say that helped me quite a bit, and I would offer that same suggestion to you. I purchased the Lyman manual, but there are others that I am sure are as good, or better. good luck!
  21. Thanks. I put it in the mag, put the magazine in the gun and racked the slide. The round went right in with no trouble, and the slide returned to full battery. Anything else I should look for?
  22. Let me begin by saying I'm a relative newcomer to reloading. I recently decided to reload some .380s and purchased the necessary dies. I already had some Berry's (.356) 115 grain RN plated bullets on hand for reloading for my 9mm. I found a recipe for this weight bullet in my Lyman's manual, however the first case I loaded has a slight bulge where the bullet is seated into the casing. The OAL is fine, and I loaded at the starting amount of powder. I am just sort of concerned by the bulge in the case. I've noticed some folks selling bullets which are .355 for .380 and some are selling .356 for .380. On first blush, it appears all should work just fine, but I prefer to err on the side of caution. Did I do something wrong, or does this size bullet require a 9mm expanding die in order to get a good fit for the bullet? Thanks in advance.
  23. No experience with classes from Range USA, but do I shoot there often, and they normally have a friendly staff. Likewise, I'm sure the training is first class and thorough. I did take the Level II handgun course two years ago at RangeMaster. the instructor was Randy Richardson. It was a good course and Randy and his staff did a nice job. Tom teaches part of the course via pre-recorded video segments. It was money well spent. It is my understanding any course after level II Tom personally teaches.
