1. I have been searching the YouTube channel. I want to watch that video that caused the protest on 09/11/12 over at our embassy in Benghazi. Want to watch it whilst cleaning my guns and eating a pound or two of crisp, tasty bacon.
2. Nice gun. Great price. Congrats!
3. I like the quote from Clint Smith. "If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."
4. Sonny, congrats on the new gun. Enjoyed the review. I'm curious whether you have tried to shoot any lead semi wad cutters out of it. Also, what holster are you using to carry it? I have been recently bitten by the .45 ACP bug again but had not considered the Kahr till I read your thread. By the way, did you pick that up locally? Thanks,
5. I saw one up close two weeks ago here in Memphis. I had gone out to Shelby Farms to get in a run at lunch. Parked at the Visitors Center and started walking north towards the children's playground area when I noticed him walking west towards one of the small lakes next to the Chickasaw trail. At first I thought it was a small doe with big ears, but as he got closer I realized it weren't no deer. We got about 50 yards from each other and he started checking to see where I was going. If I walked, he walked. If I stopped, he stopped. He was one ugly, mangy looking critter. He eventually ran behind me to the woods, but it was a little unusual to see one in the middle of the day with lots of people around. I have seen a lot of wild life out there, including a bobcat last fall. That one was less than ten feet from me when he scrambled out of a ditch and across the walking path into some nearby woods. Startled me, to say the least!
6. Got to go with my first love, S&W revolvers. The first gun I ever owned was a used S&W Highway Patrol model 28 with 6" barrel. Pure pleasure to shoot. The combination of wood and blued metal just looked sexy, and felt right in my hands. Not to mention the weight of the gun made even hot .357 magnum reloads easy to shoot. I loved the sound of the gun and the flash of the ball of fire every time I pulled the trigger. I kept it for many years, even using it as my carry gun when I worked for the Sheriff's department. I sold the Smith in order to buy my first Glock 17. Half the weight, and just as many rounds in one magazine and in the tube as I could carry in my Smith plus two speed loaders. Now as I get older, and hopefully a little wiser, I still appreciate the utility of the Glock, but I would love to find another old model 28. Would make a great range gun/ BBQ gun/night stand companion. I would not hesitate to use it for a CCW given the right holster. :)
7.
Blues City Cafe was really good, watch out for the gunbuster on the door though.
Yeah, just in case you didn't know, Beale Street is a big tourist area, and considered part of the "entertainment district" and no guns are allowed on Beale. (At least not the places you want to go, the other part of Beale should have a sign saying you are not allowed without one.) they take this pretty seriously and often use metal detectors at different entrances to the area during high traffic events. The MPD does have a very visual presence and they do a good job. Just don't tarry on the way back to your car or hotel... Sorry to hijack the thread.
8. Just some suggestions, some already mentioned: Cozy Corner BBQ ( BBQ bologna sandwich) The Arcade ( sweet potato pancakes) Gus's world famous chicken Dyers Hamburgers (milk shake and a burger) Pearls Oyster Bar Itta Bena (above BB Kings on Beale reservations required) Texas de Brazil Bogies Delicatessen Flying Fish Bardog Tavern
9. I previously had a Smith and Wesson model 642 that I really liked, but sold it about 9 months ago to help my wife buy something she wanted. Really enjoyed shooting the J frame with my bunny fart reloads. Luckily for me, I found a replacement earlier this morning. This one is an older model 36. The blueing is a little dinged up, but the cylinder locks up tight and the trigger is smooth. Called S&W customer service, and they said it was made in1975, but they also said not to use +P ammo in this gun. The wood stocks appear to be original and in overall pretty good condition. The only .38 self defense ammo I currently have is some +P 125 grain Speer Gold Dot Hollow Points. Any of you revolver guys have any suggestions for carry ammo?
10.
I know there isn't much love for Rendezvous from Memphis locals but Ive been there twice and I really enjoyed both visits. I only ate ribs though.
Yep. You nailed it. Many of us remember when the Rendezvous still used real plates and stainless steel knives and forks, and the atmosphere was a little more laid back, back before it became more of a tourist stop. Now everything comes out on paper plates with plastic forks. (Of course I'm showing my age cause Elvis still lived at Graceland back then, too... :) For the record, I still like the food. I recently stopped by one Monday when they were technically "closed". A couple of us wandered in for lunch. the waiter said we could have anything we wanted to eat, as long as we wanted ribs. What are the chances, he read my mind? It was delicious..
11. I use a Edwin Jagger double edge razor with Feather blades. The Derby blades that came with the razor worked well, but I got a deal on a package of 50 Feather blades on Amazon and I love them. Also recently got some Proraso Sandalwood shave cream, and I like the fresh, clean smell. I got started on the double edge shave little over a year ago, after getting tired of paying more for 4 razor blade refills than for a brick of .22 LR.
12. You might start with 1.15 and see how that works. I wouldn't go any shorter than 1.12 with the plated unless they were hollow based.
13. The last time I remember a non disgruntled fedex employee trying something like this it was with a couple of hammers. Difference was, he was in a DC-10 headed for Cali at the time
14. Just as an update I was in the area with some time earlier today so I stopped by the Walmart in question. Actually found a lady working the next aisle over stocking shelves. I asked her about the ammo and she said they moved it because the cabinet it was normally stored in was broken. While the mystery of the empty shelves has now been solved, the next mystery is where did they move it and what do you have to do to see if they have what you seek. I was attempting to ask these questions when the clerk abruptly turned and left to go make a kid two aisles over stop dribbling a basketball inside the store. Getting this much information from her apparently is all you are allowed on one visit. Information about ammo is now being limited just like the ammo was when they had it on the shelf. 1 question about ammo= purchasing 3 boxes of ammo per person per visit... :)
15. At that store I just walk over to the auto service desk and ask them to page someone to sporting goods for me. Not sure why that one store would stop selling ammo, though. Dunno.
16. In no particular order: Cozy Corner Neely's Interstate BBQ Memphis BBQ in Southaven, MS One and Only BBQ Corky's That being said, I think we have it pretty good when it comes to having good barbecue. We probably have pretty high standards for that reason. Those folks in Kansas City just think they know how to BBQ. :)
17. Nice find. Congrats!
18. +1 on Avery.  I've had good experiences with them. They are a little higher on powder than some other sources, but it's not too much higher. I think I paid about $23 for a lb of Unique a few weeks ago. I was just tickled to find it on the shelf. Their inventory seems to move pretty quickly, but I think they are somewhat a secret among some shooters locally.
19.
I do not stop daily, or even weekly. I do not go on ammo runs to WW. I do not try to beat every other person in before the line starts, So I guess I will never see, at least not in the foreseeable future; a sight like that. I will, and do check when I go to WW, where I shop usually.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This.
20. Might have to get one of those patches to sew on this
21. I shoot plated reloads through my 3rd generation G19, no problems and good accuracy. I have owned a few M&Ps and they are a fine gun. I just always come back to the Glock. As it has been said, you can't go wrong with either one. Both seem to hold their value. Both do well in the used market.
22. I had a M&P 45 FS for a short time about a year ago. I recall it was a pretty nice gun, all in all. With the removable back straps it fit my fat, girlie hands much better than the Glock 21. It was very accurate, and ate any ammo I fed it, including my reloaded 200 grain LSWCs. Downsides: The trigger was too mushy and didn't seem to have a crisp break. No discernible reset on the trigger. As mentioned, the 14 round magazines are just too big to be carried as a spare. I just didn't like the gun enough to justify spending the money to upgrade to the Apex trigger kit. YMMV.
23.
As the streets were covered in ice and snow this morning, I stopped in Bass Pro and saw a stack of Federal .22 325 round cans for $19.95.
I was in there yesterday for the first time in about a month, and noticed all the handgun ammo is now behind the counter. I will make another stop in tomorrow to see if they have any of that Federal .22 left. Not holding my breath.... :)
24. Sounds like something straight from the "Graceland: Memories of Elvis in the Kitchen Cookbook"! Thank ya. Thank ya, very much....
