I think I am reading this question the same way as another poster, as a caliber question. I also concur with the 9mm. With good self defense loads available today, it is very efficient. It is cheaper to practice with than most of the other calibers you listed. The nine has less recoil, allowing you to get back on target quicker and the slightly smaller load allows for more magazine capacity. I applied with the FBI many years ago and as part of the process I had to interview with a panel of senior agents. One of the questions they tossed out was my preference of the 9mm or the .45. The interesting thing is these guys began arguing among themselves over this issue before I finished my answer. This just goes to show this discussion is far from new, and doubtful will ever truly end. And, this was a long time ago, and actually just before the shootout in Miami-Dade.

A light, small fanny pack will work. I have a Vibe II from Mountainsmith that is just right for carrying my P32. The fanny pack gives you room for your chp, a small flashlight, and a spare mag, if you should desire. You might also look at some of the fanny packs for runners that hold your plastic water bottle. I had one that had a pocket on it. I no longer have it, but I think the pocket was rather small. Another viable option might be to consider the Smart Carry, but I don't know if it would work inside of running shorts, it might be too much of an irritant riding on the skin. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Have you decided not to buy a 380 because of the ammo shortage?
MphsTiger1981 replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I actually sold my Kel-Tec P3AT because I was growing weary of not finding ammo. I did not mind the recoil and actually liked the little pistol for what it was. It was completely reliable out of the box and never had a problem. Sold it to a fellow TGO'er and last I heard, he still loves it. I did end up picking up a little P32 to replace it as my inside the pocket, bad breath gun. Ammo for the .32 acp is a little pricey, but it's pretty easy to find at Wally World and other LGS. More than I can say for .380 although it does seem to be getting better now. -
Ultimate Concealment Holster This one might work for you. Dale Fricke makes some others also listed on this same site.

Morrisster, We all understand your frustration. Been there, done that. Last time I took mine apart and cleaned it, the same thing happened and I worked on it for almost three hours off and on. Still highly recommend calling Ruger CS and talking to a live customer service rep. They are the best and do this every day of the week helping people just like you in this same situation. My deal happened on a Saturday night, and luckily I got it fixed before they called me on Monday. Good luck.

This happens to me all the time. Try to hold the trigger while pointing the gun at the floor. Gently bump the gun on the floor covered by a soft covering like towel, pillow, etc. It may take a few times before it works, but like another poster said, the hammer is in the wrong position. After a few good bumps, try once again to pry the mainspring housing bolt pin out again. What probably happened is the hammer strut is in the wrong position. If all else fails, call the customer service number for Ruger and let one of their reps talk you down off the ledge. You can do this, you do not need a gunsmith. This is your gun, and this is just part of the learning curve. Once you do it a few times and screw up, you'll learn how to correct your mistakes. Hang in there! P.S. Ruger's number is 928-778-6555

That does sound like a great price on the gun. Like previous posters said, you can always get your money out of it, if you decide you don't like it. Glock, .45 ACP, what's not to like? Kevo, To avoid a thread hijack, can you either start a new thread, or pm me with more info on this do-it-yourself grip reduction? I've got medium paws and would dearly love to make my G22 just a tad more user friendly. Thanks.

The bumper sticker I really like, but probably isn't smart to put on my car is "Keep Honking, I'm Reloading".

Addendum: okay, I also washed my windshield a couple of times when he didn't slow down and was seriously about to ram my car from behind. I never tapped the brakes, this jackarse was just too close. If I had touched the brakes, he and I and that 18 wheeler are headed down the embankment. Perhaps the windshield washing was over the top, but I had already made eye contact with him in the rearview several times and there was nothing but rage in this guy. Pounding his fist on the dash and screaming. All of this before he ever passed me in the emergency lane. Maybe it's like someone posted earlier, he had a sick wife, or child he was trying to get to the hospital to see. But I would expect him to at least turn on his hazard lights if that was the case. Lots of good input. Thanks to all who responded. I admit this guy did get to me and as Sgt Joe said, I shouldn't have given him that much power.

What is your objective in a self-defense shooting?
MphsTiger1981 replied to daddyo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
My mission is to make the other person stop whatever behavior has caused me to be in fear for my life. If, in the course of my attempt to make this person stop this behavior they happen to die, it is most unfortunate. I do not wish to die, therefore if it becomes either him or me, and if it is him then he did a poor job of choosing his victims. I do not carry a gun with the specific goal of killing someone someday, but rather to ensure that if that day comes when someone else decides it is my day to die, I at least have a chance to defend myself and have some sort of input into the matter beyond simply begging for my life. -
+1 for the Good Guy defending his home and family. Also, +1 for the mouse gun caliber. A guy who buys his wife a gun for Mothers Day and then uses it to defend his home. That's almost a Hallmark Card right there!

I'm guessing you must be MPD? If so, you know that the south end of the interstate from 385 Junction to the 55 Junction has become a freaking autobahn out there. You have to drive 65 in the slow poke lane to keep from getting run over. The worst offenders always seem to be the folks from MS. I'd love to see more enforcement, but I know you guys are always swamped. My brother is LEO with Bartlett. I used to be a reserve with SCSO. I appreciate what you guys do out there. Thank you for your service to our community!

Sonny, Jackson isn't that far away from Memphis and I've heard Gander Mtn. has some good prices on their guns. Might be worth the drive to ride up and look.

Sounds like a great buy. Love the Glock. Congrats! Just out of curiosity, I've never shot a 10mm. How does it compare to the .40 or to the .357?

It was funny. When I was walking out one of the workers asked to see my receipt. She looked at and said, "Ammo and Coke, a good combination!" That gave me a good laugh. Admit it, folks here in the south are friendlier, even when you're buying ammo at the Wal-Mart. Heck, half the people leaving that store probably had some combination similar to yours. Ammo and _______.

I do. My brother is LEO and he provides me with 1/2 empty cans of Freeze from his department. I carry a can with me on the driver's door pocket at all times, along with an expandable baton. I was a reserve with the Sheriff's office years ago when the stuff first came out. We had to get sprayed with it during in-service in order to be qualified to carry it. It will literally have you slingin' snot for an hour after your eyes stop waterin'..... Thanks for all the replies. I knew deep down it was the right thing to do. I was just having one of those RC Mercer moments. "How big a boy are ya?...

This happened yesterday and I'm still simmering. On my way to work driving my company car N/B on I-240 approaching the E/B I-40 exit/connector when this red neck from Mississippi driving a little red pick up starts riding my bumper. I'm in the far right lane and there's an 18 wheeler to my left. I've got nowhere to go. Speed limit is 55 and I'm already doing 65 but apparently it's not enough for this guy. He's swerving behind me like he's in some sort of Nascar event and as we get to this major curve with the 18 wheeler and me in the two lanes merging onto I-40 this dumb ass shoots to the right of me in the emergency lane and passes me in the curve almost forcing me to hit the 18 wheeler. I'm honking and looking at this guy like WTF? He flips me off and pulls over right in front of me, then takes off. My first instinct is to catch up to him and invite him to pull off at the next exit and discuss what a poor driver he is and how I can recommend he stay his country ass in Mississippi until he learns to drive like a civilized man. Then I quickly realized how badly this is going to play out. I'm packing in a company vehicle. Even if we just pull over and go to fist city, someone will eventually call the law and then I'm jammed up for who knows what. Worst case scenario he's on something and when he gets out, he realizes I'm a little bigger than he is and he reaches for a tire iron, etc and I shoot this dumb s.o.b.. Now, my whole day is ruined and in all likelihood my career and I'll spend everything I own defending myself for shooting someone in a road rage incident. The Comical Appeal will use that bad picture from my driver's license and put me on the front page as an example of why people do not need carry permits. So I take my foot off the accelerator and slow down to 65. I pull off at the next exit and go to the gas station and buy a bottle of water. The adrenaline dump was huge. I finally made it to my office but didn't mention it to anyone. I then left to go on some appointments. For about two hours, this was really bugging me, then I relaxed a little and tried to move on. The moral of the story for me is this is really the first time since I've had my permit that I've come this close to a scrape. You really do have to think things over a little more if you're carrying, which is something I never did before. In a way, it's sort of emasculating having to just wave at a guy like that and let it go to prevent it from escalating to something more. Sorry to blab on, but I really needed to get this off my chest. Maybe if someone else has had something like this happen you can tell me how you handled it differently. Oh, yeah. The guy's license plate number is some sort of MS specialty plate but the numbers are 1885. If you see him, give him my best and tell him he's still number "1" with me.

For what it's worth....I work down in the south part of town and the Super Wally World on Elvis Presley and Holmes just north of State Line Rd. seems to always have ammo. Last time I was there, they had three boxes of .380 in the 100 rounds of WWB. They also had plenty of 9mm and 40mm. The .45 acp seemed to be a low, but otherwise, they are a place I stop at least once a week just to check in.
-
In that case, it sounds like you got a good deal. Congratulations!
-
My personal experience with this sort of issue is easy. If I wait until tomorrow to buy it, someone else will buy it out from under me, confirming my thoughts that it was a good deal. If I go back and ponder it long enough, I'll buy it and end up feeling like I paid too much, thus it was really not a deal! Probably doesn't help much, but maybe it helps you to know you're not the only one who can't pull the trigger on what appears to be a good deal!!

XS Big Dot 24/7 tritium sights
MphsTiger1981 replied to downtown's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
My BIL has put them on his Glock 23. I went to the range with him when he first installed his. He actually shot much better with them than he did previously with his old stock Glock sights. At the time, I also was shooting a G23 with stock sights. I simply could not get used to the size of the XS front sight, and shot, ok but not great. I was much more accurate with the stock sights. He came by the house recently and I asked him how he likes them now that he's had them for almost six months. Says he loves them, which seems to follow about 8/10 users from what I've read on different forums. Oh, yeah. My BIL is 58 years old and wears bi-focals, FWIW. -
For what it's worth, I'd buy that same gun back from Crnchy right now, sight unseeen. I honestly can't say that about every gun I've ever owned, but I never had a moment's trouble from that P3AT. The long trigger is a safety factor, but I found it to be very accurate to 10 yards, even with the snappy recoil. YMMV

My Step Son has inherited an old Remington Model 17 .20 gauge pump shotgun. I've cleaned it up a bit and it seems to be in good working order as far as the action. Two questions, first and most importantly, is there a way to know for sure this shotgun will safely handle the ammo currently on the market? Secondly, provided it does work properly and safely, what is a good home defense load for a .20 gauge shotgun and where is the best place to find it? Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions.
