Thanks Dog. -

I've bought several guns from a local pawn shop in downtown Memphis. In fact, I drop by from time to time just to see what they have taken in. The 15th of the month is when they put stuff out that people have not come in to claim, so usually I stop by a few days before and just ask if they have anything interesting coming out on the 15th. Sort of like buying a used car. The guys I buy from have always been on the up and up. They're always competitive on new guns and now that I've been going in there for a year or so, they recognize me and will deal a little on some of the guns, both new and used. I understand both sides of the issue, but I've been in there enough now that I know them as well as some of the guys at the other local gun shops and feel just as comfortable shopping there. That being said, the folks I've bought from on here are all first rate great guys. I'd always buy here first if I could find what I was looking for.

Ramsey Speaks Out On Islam

Two Words: "Fort Hood". -
If you love it, get it if you can afford it. If you buy something else instead, you'll always regret not buying this one. Trust me. Been there, done that.

Thanks Jack.

Nice looking gun. I looked at one Friday over at Guns and Ammo here in Memphis. They had just gotten one in and several people were looking at it. Doubtful it made it to the close of business without getting sold. Nice shooting, too.

Just saw your thread. Welcome to Memphis!

My experience with G&A seems to be a mix of the above. I've had good experiences with some of the staff, and some that left a lot to be desired. The two guys who work over in the revolvers are the best bet for good service on a regular basis. I've bought several guns there over the years as well as a lot of ammo. I have observed some rude behavior towards customers, for what appeared to be no good reason on occasion. None of it had been directed at me, or I would have gone some place else and not gone back. That being said, the folks over at Classic Arms and Arms Fair in Cordova always seem to go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Never witnessed a bad experience at either of those two places. I think G&A has the best prices, but some times I would rather pay just a little bit more for good customer service and friendly attitude as opposed to saving $20 from someone who had their Cheerio's pissed in that morning.

Need so quick advice about this weekend's Gun Show
MphsTiger1981 replied to BigK's topic in Handguns
+1 to Gregintenn. I've had good luck at gun shows selling guns. My BIL has worked them for years and has a booth. I've been fortunate to just sit at his booth with the gun or knife out on the table and they pretty much sell themselves. As has been pointed out, you probably won't get retail for it, but it will beat what the LGS will allow on a trade for another gun. You might consider what you'd pay for the same gun from an individual at the gun show and be willing to move a little in order to get a cash price. You'd be surprised how many folks come to the gun shows looking to pick up a gun like yours. Let us know how it works out for you. -
Ditto. The only one I really miss was my first one, a S&W model 28 with six inch barrel. It was my carry weapon back in the day when deputies had to furnish their own guns. It was a sweet range gun, but a PIA to wear on a Sam Brown for 8 hours or more. Sold it in 1992 to buy a Glock 17.

Don't give up on the G22 just yet. Get some trigger time on it and you'll get better. It just takes practice. Buy the 9mm barrel and G17 mags as someone earlier posted. For less than $150 you've got a 9mm to practice with, and the .40 to carry for SD. You'll still need to shoot some .40, but the trigger time with the 9mm will go a long way towards building your confidence in the gun. You can also buy a .357 Sig barrel to drop in and I think you can even use the G22 mags with that round. The G22 is one of the most versatile pistols you can own. You've made a good purchase, just give yourself some time! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Good to meet you guys Jack, HalfPint and Capbyrd. You guys are some serious gunners. Jack, your wife is like a female Jack Bauer! I would not want to be the guy who ever got her riled up. Didn't get to speak with HalfPint's lady friend, but from the sounds of it, I'd have been in way over my head talking about any sort of guy stuff. She did seem very nice. It was fun meeting everyone and looking at the toys. The kid with the AR was killing me. Can only imagine the noise that would make inside of your house if someone broke in... Seeing Capbyrd's High Point in action, I may have to go buy one just for shooting at the range. Thanks again Jack for setting this up. Next time I'm sure there will be a lot more folks. Looking forward to it. Tiger.

You can also cut up a bicycle inner tube to slip over it and make a poor man's grip sleeve. Check out the instructions from KTrange.com. They show how to make one for Kel-Tecs.

I think I am reading this question the same way as another poster, as a caliber question. I also concur with the 9mm. With good self defense loads available today, it is very efficient. It is cheaper to practice with than most of the other calibers you listed. The nine has less recoil, allowing you to get back on target quicker and the slightly smaller load allows for more magazine capacity. I applied with the FBI many years ago and as part of the process I had to interview with a panel of senior agents. One of the questions they tossed out was my preference of the 9mm or the .45. The interesting thing is these guys began arguing among themselves over this issue before I finished my answer. This just goes to show this discussion is far from new, and doubtful will ever truly end. And, this was a long time ago, and actually just before the shootout in Miami-Dade.

A light, small fanny pack will work. I have a Vibe II from Mountainsmith that is just right for carrying my P32. The fanny pack gives you room for your chp, a small flashlight, and a spare mag, if you should desire. You might also look at some of the fanny packs for runners that hold your plastic water bottle. I had one that had a pocket on it. I no longer have it, but I think the pocket was rather small. Another viable option might be to consider the Smart Carry, but I don't know if it would work inside of running shorts, it might be too much of an irritant riding on the skin. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Have you decided not to buy a 380 because of the ammo shortage?
MphsTiger1981 replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I actually sold my Kel-Tec P3AT because I was growing weary of not finding ammo. I did not mind the recoil and actually liked the little pistol for what it was. It was completely reliable out of the box and never had a problem. Sold it to a fellow TGO'er and last I heard, he still loves it. I did end up picking up a little P32 to replace it as my inside the pocket, bad breath gun. Ammo for the .32 acp is a little pricey, but it's pretty easy to find at Wally World and other LGS. More than I can say for .380 although it does seem to be getting better now. -
Ultimate Concealment Holster This one might work for you. Dale Fricke makes some others also listed on this same site.

Morrisster, We all understand your frustration. Been there, done that. Last time I took mine apart and cleaned it, the same thing happened and I worked on it for almost three hours off and on. Still highly recommend calling Ruger CS and talking to a live customer service rep. They are the best and do this every day of the week helping people just like you in this same situation. My deal happened on a Saturday night, and luckily I got it fixed before they called me on Monday. Good luck.

This happens to me all the time. Try to hold the trigger while pointing the gun at the floor. Gently bump the gun on the floor covered by a soft covering like towel, pillow, etc. It may take a few times before it works, but like another poster said, the hammer is in the wrong position. After a few good bumps, try once again to pry the mainspring housing bolt pin out again. What probably happened is the hammer strut is in the wrong position. If all else fails, call the customer service number for Ruger and let one of their reps talk you down off the ledge. You can do this, you do not need a gunsmith. This is your gun, and this is just part of the learning curve. Once you do it a few times and screw up, you'll learn how to correct your mistakes. Hang in there! P.S. Ruger's number is 928-778-6555
