  1. True this. I could see it happening here, say on Beale Street on the weekend where they've banned us from legally carrying and installed metal detectors, it would be open season on tourists and locals alike. that's one reason I never go down there whenever we have friends in town. I won't go anywhere at night in Memphis where I can't carry my gun with me. Just sayin'....
  2. Congrats on the new to you shotgun! My step son recently inherited a Remington Model 17 20 gauge that is in the same situation. Probably hasn't been fired in over 25 years. I contacted Remington and they sent me a zeroxed copy of the original owners manual, its that old. We need to get it looked over and inspected before taking it out to shoot. As NadieLite mentioned Mason over at Classic Arms is a good guy and a pretty good gunsmith. Arms Fair is also not too far from there and they just hired a new smith that started this week, I believe his name is Andy. Get it checked out and let us know what you find.
  3. It depends upon who you ask. Many self defense instructors feel the 9mm is the lowest end of the spectrum of handgun calibers which can effectively be relied upon for self defense. That being said, sales of .380 handguns to people who want a pocket pistol have soared over the past few years with the introduction of the LCP and some of the others patterned after the original .380 pocket pistol, the Kel-Tec P3AT. So in fact, a lot of people have purchased .380s. The 9mm pistols are just a little larger, and for some are hard to carry in the front pocket, so you lose some of the size and comfort of the .380 platform. I have had several .380 pistols, including two P3ATs and an LCP. They all worked great. I also had a PF9 and it was a great gun, but as you noticed, putting it in your pocket and walking around all day was not comfortable. If I had to carry a PF9 in the waistband or on a belt holster, why not get something a little bigger with more rounds, or larger caliber, etc. It's all about what makes you comfortable. If you think you may need a larger gun, get a larger gun. You're the guy who has to carry it, and God forbid, you may be the guy who has to rely upon it to save your life, or someone elses. Good luck with all that.
  4. It is in interesting question and one that has played out from time to time in the news. I remember one case a few years ago where a citizen shot it out with a guy robbing a Burger King in Miami. Seems like I recall the perp died, but he shot up the citizen pretty good, too. Miami PD wasn't real pleased with the outcome and really were not ready to give the citizen any credit for taking the law into his own hands over the $23 in the cash register. Me? Honestly? No clue what I'd do. I'm not a cop and I'm not a hero. I'm a just a poor schmuck with a family and apparently we're in the wrong place at the wrong time. we were just on our way to the mall, where, with the luck I've had so far, I anticipate we'll encounter a flash mob.

  6. Saw this on the news last night. I also happened to see one of those programable billboards that updates like a tv screen around lunch today off of I-40 east of Memphis posted by the FBI advising this group should be considered "armed and dangerous". I get a feeling this isn't going to end well for anybody.
  7. Mac, you know there is probably a huge market out there for someone to create and sell something like this....
  8. Smart Carry/ThunderWear or Fanny pack. Most small revolvers and semi autos can be carried in the Smart Carry/ThunderWear type system without much trouble. I would recommend wearing some sort of undergarment like Second Skins under your running shorts with a crotch holster to avoid chafing. I also have a MountainSmith fanny pack I use for nutrition like Hammer Gel and Enduralytes in the front, and a small pistol/revolver in the back portion. Granted it's not a fast access, but you are still armed and that is rule #1.
  9. you can tell from his laughter while he's shooting, this guy really likes what he's doin' and it shows....
  10. Looks good. much faster. thank you.
  11. Common sense is quickly becoming more and more like porn. I don't know how to describe it, I just know it when I see it.
  12. +1 for the shirt. Orange recliner, not so much...lol..
  13. +1 Bass Pro has almost the same signage as you walk in the door.
  14. I'm afraid I disagree with you on this one, Wyatt. Anything that begins with taking away the right of an individual person (in this case property owner) and gives more rights to a group (even if it is a group I belong to) makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Nice conversation starter, though. This should be an interesting thread.
  15. Some good advice has been already given to the O/P so far. I would point out that there is a distinct difference between a bulging disc, and a herniated disc. Surgery is seldom the recommended solution for a bulging disc, and as someone pointed out, bulging discs are more common as we age. The common symptoms of a herniated disc are experiencing radiating pain, i.e. shooting pain felt in your buttocks, behind your knees or into the ankles and feet. A bulging disc is a weakened condition and might herniate with something as slight as stepping off the curb, or sneezing. My dad had two disc herniations within six weeks of each other, both required surgery. That said, his relief was instantaneous. The other thing the doctor told him to do after his surgery was lots of walking. Not jogging, running or skipping rope, but walking. If you lift weights, consider stopping for six to eight weeks as well as any other motion that causes you pain right now. Good luck!
  16. +1 on the Samsung.
  17. Good that he's interested in getting a gun. Because he's so "out" I thought maybe he'd like this one from gunbroker. Ruger LCP .380 Raspberry NIB
  18. Sorry, not to be nosey, but just curious, where did you find yours? I understand they are a little hard to find right now, as are the SR9's and SR9c's. I saw one that come in to a friend's shop Thursday and it sold yesterday.
  19. Probably going to be based on a case by case basis. If you're at the Home Depot in shorts and flip flops wearing a Chattanooga PD hat, it's unlikely to be a problem. However, wear that hat with a black shirt and bdu's with a Sig holstered on the hip and you're likely to get some unwanted attention. just my $.02.
  20. This is fairly common with the Kel-Tec pistols. I'm assuming from your description this is a second generation P3AT, which they call the FrankenBolt Version. First thing Monday call KT and tell them you need the extractor, extractor spring, firing pin, fp spring and the button (retaining) screw. They will ship this out to you at no cost and it will be there by next Thursday. They have some of the best customer service in the gun business, even for cheap guns. Until then, take it all apart once again. Spray some gun cleaner down into the firing pin channel and hose it out really good. After this take either a pipe cleaner or a Q tip and swab it out good. Chances are you've got some gunk in the fp channel. Hose it down again with the cleaner then let it dry or use a can of compressed air to blow it out good. Reassemble carefully making sure that the flat side of the firing pin is up against the retaining screw. Be careful not to strip the head of the hex screw trying to overtighten. It does not have to be more than barely hand tightened with the allen wrench. put just a dot of blue loctite on the end of the screw near the button head, careful not to let it run down into the firing pin channel. If you have any questions or need more information, skip on over to the KTOG.org which is the Kel-Tec owners group. Great folks over there and you can find more than enough information about this from several threads on this topic. You may have some gunk in the channel, a worn firing pin, or a bad extractor. Either way, it's no big deal and something you can easily solve yourself. They really are easy to work on. good luck, Robert. p.s. I meant to ask, have you been dry firing this pistol without snap caps?

    SIG p250

Have you shot the Sig yet? If not, I recommend you do before considering a trade. I shot one recently and I loved everything about it BUT the long double action trigger. It's a very accurate pistol with the ability to morph into several other calibers, etc. but I still recommend you shoot one for yourself first. If you like it, then sell your XD to an individual and buy the P250. Just my .02.
  22. I came in on the tail end of it, just in time to see the last challenge. What I saw was entertaining, at least to me. I'll have to hand it to the kid who won, I would have never bet on him. My money would have been on the guy with the Delta Force background.
  23. True, but the first one will probably be put up on the northern Texas border to keep out all the carpet baggers. I believe it was no other than that famous Tennessean Davy Crockett who was quoted as saying, "You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas."
  24. Just for a little different perspective, not all of the people who are looking for someone to rob or harass are gang bangers or meth heads. I was thinking of this yesterday when I was looking at the Commercial Appeal on-line. They had the list of the area's most wanted. The first guy up was a stocky caucasian guy who was wanted for aggravated assault. If you look at this guys mug shot, most of us have known guys like this. A bully, who is going to take whatever he wants from anyone who doesn't have the nads to stand up to him, and even if you do, he's probably the guy who is going to have a smile on his face while you're fightin' him. You look at a big guy like that and wonder if that little .32 in your pocket is going to stop him unless you hit him in the face or some place critical where he simply can't continue. It's unlikely a guy like that will let a little blood stop him from finishing you off and taking your watch, wallet, wife, daughter, whatever. For me, this guy is just as much the face of the wolf as the dude with the red or blue bandana wrapped around his head or hanging from his pocket. These guys do a little jail time and they probably spend most of their free time in the yard lifting weights, staying strong. Its times when I'm out and see guys like this on the street, that I question "stopping power" of whatever I happen to be carrying at the time.
  25. +1 to what hipower said. The revolver just seems to have more personality than the polymer guns do, at least to me. The polymer guns are more like tools, revolvers seem more like family.
