Likewise, never been a big fan of the guy's music, but he is from Millington, TN which is just north of Memphis. He recently purchased an old golf course up there and has spent several million dollars to turn it into a tourist destination golf course, similar to the Robert Trent Jones courses in Alabama. Apparently the guy is serious about his golf. His parents still live in the area and they help him run the day to day of the course. He is scheduled to build a large club house with his own office and recording studio on the course in the near future. I tip my hat to him for remembering his roots and investing his money with the people in this area. His appearance at the Marine Corp ball confirms that he is a stand up guy.

Wyatt, the scary reality of what your pushing for is that somewhere in a room surrounded by his homies, some gang banger is wanting to do the same thing to you and your friends. They think they are entitled to take whatever they want from those who have more than they did. They have bought into the class warfare BS hook, line and sinker. They are just as deeply entrenched in their beliefs as you are in yours. If you don't believe it, just check the jails, prisons and cemeteries. The other problem is, they are sort of like some of our other enemies these days and they don't all wear a uniform or in this case a bandana with the word, Crips, Bloods, Insane Clown Posse, Latin Kings, etc. on the front. Most of these gangs are now as well formed and organized as the Mafia ever was, and probably twice as ruthless. This has become a real culture war, and it's just getting started.

Vehicle search consent?
MphsTiger1981 replied to BlackHawk93's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've been on both sides of this issue. I've been the cop who stopped folks and I've been the guy who got stopped. When I was young and stupid, if they had searched the car I was in, not saying I was the driver, I'd probably still be in jail. As most of the officers on the thread have said, attitude determines where the traffic stop goes from there. If you've got nothing to hide, but you don't like the way the cop is treating you, in other words if "he" seems to have an attitude, then perhaps it's best to decline to allow them to search. If you have nothing in the car and the cop seems to be acting courteous and just doing his job, I'd probably say "go for it". Like most things in life, I do not think there is one blanket answer for what to do if you are stopped. I personally think the answer always begins with "it depends". Also, I can't remember the exact case law, but there was some case law which allowed the cop to search the portions of the car which are within the reach of the driver, simply for officer's safety. This could be done without permission or a warrant, but I've been out a long time and I'm not sure if this is still the controlling case or not. This did not include the glove box on the other side of the car. Interesting thread. -
Sounds like some of our good citizens from Memphis took a trip to Nashville for the weekend. Been sorta quiet around here....our biggest story is whether or not the schools should furnish dinner ( in addition to the breakfast and lunch they already get) for the children before we put them on the bus and send them home. I think we should just let them stay at school and put up bars to keep all the bad folks out, and feed them the three meals a day,....wait, we already do that for most of their relatives now, but we call it jail. hmph....

For what it's worth, Smith and Wesson also makes one for the J frame but the .327 magnum carries six rounds instead of five. Here's the link:Product: Model 327 Night Guard™ - Smith & Wesson

I've owned a couple of PF9's and they have been good guns, but they were just a little finicky about what ammo they'd eat. Never owned a Taurus, but many who have like them. Given my personal experiences with the PF9, I'd go with the PT145.

Anyone EDC a larger revolver
MphsTiger1981 replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You can pretty much carry anything you want, large revolver or semi auto, with a well built holster and a strong gun belt. Wear it everyday for about two weeks and pretty soon you'll forget it's there. -
Hey Robbie, Julie and I were down there about a year ago to pick up our registration stuff for the St. Jude Half. I didn't see any metal detectors at the time, but this was the only event going on at the time. What are you going to be attending down there?

Agreed. If the Dems wanted to use these allegations, they'd be foolish to play their hand right now. The smart thing would be to wait until he was officially the Republican candidate, then introduce all of these women with their stories.

Memphis pizza delivery guy shoots would-be robber.
MphsTiger1981 replied to Chucktshoes's topic in General Chat
I'm also betting they fire him for violating company policy regarding carrying a firearm at working. He may have trouble getting another job delivering pizzas provided that's what he wants to do. If so, maybe someone will hear of his plight and get him some work. It's just the devil some of us wrestle with, do you carry against company policy in the event something like this happens or do you just hope you're the lucky one who never needs a gun but doesn't have one for trying to be a good employee? Get caught, lose your job. Get caught without, lose your life. Big boy rules definitely apply. He made the right choice. He's alive today to look for work. If not for that revolver he had on him that night, today might just as easily been his funeral service. No doubt, the employer would have sent flowers and a nice card. -
Very nice purchase! congrats!

Some banks heard irate customers about debit card fees.
MphsTiger1981 replied to a topic in General Chat
I've been with Regions since they were Leader Federal who was bought out by Union Planters, who became Regions. I recently closed my small personal checking account. When I closed the account, the guy waiting on me had to fill out a form and asked why I was closing my account. I told him I was supporting "Occupy My Street", or in other words, I'm trying to keep the money in my home so I can continue to occupy 'my street'. I'm glad to learn most of the banks will be dropping the fee, but let's not kid ourselves, they will find another source of income via some sort of convenience/service fee some place else. It's not personal, it's just business. -
Correct. Proof of U.S. Citizenship or "Lawful Permanent Residency" is all that is required.

I got one for my Glock 26 back a little over a month ago. it's a great product. Tommy Theis is a great guy to do business with. I ordered mine from him and received it in about five days. I've owned a CrossBreed and a Kholster, both are great holsters, but for the money and time for delivery, you can't beat Theis. I highly recommend him.

Welcome from another Memphis member! Looks like your boys may be favored in the Egg Bowl this year...

From reading the play by play, it is far more likely than not the folks who complained to the security at the mall called you in. They probably called the police and reported a man with a gun. They probably gave the dispatcher your description, tag number, and your direction of travel. Upon receiving that call, the cops have no alternative but to pull you over and see what's up. Since the security cop at the mall dealt with you reasonably professionally, I doubt he would have an ax to grind past his conversation with you. Maybe before getting to the mall you unknowingly cut someone off in traffic, and they decided to get even with you once they saw your pistol while you were getting out of the car. No disrespect intended, but maybe they thought you appeared too young to be able to have a permit, and thought the police needed to know about you. Just a thought.

IBL... wait,...huh?..oh, never mind...

For punching paper, the larger gun would be more fun for me than the smaller one. The 9mm will be cheaper to shoot if that's a consideration. If money is not a concern as far as ammo, is there a reason you would choose .40 over .45? I'd take the same money and buy a nice used .45. If we're just shooting to blow stuff up, let's get the .45 and make some really big arse holes!!!

The best advice I've ever received was, if you see someone commit a crime, call the police and be a good witness. If while you are a busy being a good witness things escalate and your life, or that of another person becomes in peril, the situation has now changed and the light is now green for self defense. Better to be a poor witness than a good defendant. My HCP did not come with a badge or any blue lights for my car.

So, let me make sure I'm getting all this straight. You live in an apartment complex which does not allow firearms. Prior to obtaining your new gun, you go to them and discussed having a permit and wanting them to make an exception to the lease agreement for you, which they originally agreed, but then reneged and have no memory of discussing. Your roommates see you carrying your gun, and then turned you in to the apartment management for possessing the gun in the complex. They have agreed to allow you to stay there, but the gun must remain locked in your vehicle. You then go to your school police department and ask if you can bring part of a gun in your car to school property? They tell you to go pound sand, and you cannot bring any part of the gun to campus with you? My concern is too many people know your business. If they're nosey and looking through keyholes and tapping your phones and such, it's one thing, but I think you're becoming your own worse enemy. From the beginning, you clearly knew that the apartment complex had a no gun clause in the lease, otherwise, you would have never had the first conversation with them about making a special allowance for you since you have a permit. This is like apartments which do not allow pets, and you go out and tell them you're buying a cat, but since you work at the animal shelter they say they'll make an exception just for you, but then when they learn you have a cat, it's a problem and they no longer remember talking to you about exceptions? Honestly, it all boils down to you knew they did not allow guns before you got yours. You tried to persuade them to make an exception, they agreed, but then no longer remember the agreement. As someone has pointed out, if it's not written on paper and signed by both parties, it never happened. The real answer, Wyatt? Man up. Do the right thing. Either move to another place where you can keep the gun, or take the gun and leave it where it can be secured until you can afford to move. This is similar to the advice we get here all the time about guns at the workplace when you know it's not allowed and you can lose your job if you get caught. Big Boy Rules apply. You have to realize that you are responsible for what is happening, not the apartment folks, not your roommates, not the cops at MTSU, but the guy you see in the mirror every morning. The sooner you come to grips with the fact you made a mistake, the better this will be to take. Will it make you happy? No. But I think it will make you a better person if you've learned to accept that you control your life, not other people. Good luck getting this all sorted out, and be sure next time that you know what you can and can't have in an apartment. And next time, remember the fewer people who know you have a handgun, the better off you will be. My apologies if I've come across in anyway too harsh with my response to your thread. Best.

my brother and I had a very similar conversation this weekend while at my son's wedding reception in the in-law's back yard. he has been on the job for two different agencies for well over 20 years now. he said he didn't get the young guys who carry all the time off duty. I just smiled, smoked my cigar, and nodded...all the while my S&W 642 was sitting nicely tucked away in the Galco Ankle Glove...
