i remember buying a half cow for almost half the price as what im currently seeing today just a couple years ago. that got me thinking about raising a cow or two. my issue now is that i live in town but i have my horses boarded in a 25 acre pasture by themselves a few miles away and am unsure if i could talk the owner into letting me keep a cow or two with my horses... that said, i do plan on buying 10-25 acres in the next couple or three years so this could end up mostly research. is there anything that says i have to raise cattle in multiples? do they do better that way? would a cow or two with my horses cause any problems? im not a total city boy so i think i may be asking questions that are too simple but why not... whats the average age and weight of beef cattle when raised and butchered? would they do ok on the same grass pasture that keeps my horses fat with no grain? i know they are natural grazing animals but i do see a lot of different grain fed vs grass fed beef adds and don't know enough about the difference.

thanks to both of you. PMs sent.

the only ammo issue i have ever had was S&B in a kel-tec P3AT. was told the primers were too hard for it and it wasn't reliable with that ammo only. as far as 40 and 45 go, anything you find should be fine. i would only shoot steel or aluminum cased ammo if its half the price of brass as you can save the brass to reload later or sell it off to others who do. in my experience, my personal reloads are the best brand for my guns.

it is a neat concept. not nearly as cheap as fossil fuels but that's the same reason we don't sun on wind or solar or many other available sources as primary power sources. here is a project I thought was pretty neat. if you type the guys name into youtube, you can get some closer looks at parts of the project. "Sequestration" Ends the A-10 Thunderbolt

makes sense to use the f16s as drones to kill if we are giving them to the brotherhood in Egypt to use against us in the near future... -
question on the alcohol stoves, hopefully not derailing too much, will they work on Everclear?

I do believe that history repeats itself and most great empires fell the same way we are headed...

after driving over their damage to just the road in Kuwait - all the armor had been pushed off in the fields - I can imagine these are a thing of beauty to see dancing through the miles of Iraqi artillery on their retreat... saw a few of them playing around on a range in Fort Leonardwood nearby where we were training a few days. they would fly over us on their way off target. -
not all Arsenals are Saiga conversions, just their cheaper options. they also have Bulgarian models. Arsenal is one of the top makers. the SGL series of saiga conversions are sometimes seen as the Colt 6920 equivalent in the AK/AR comparison. I would place the SLR Bulgarian models up in the Daniel Defense realm with some Milled models being in the Noveske realm.

i would personally try to trade gun for gun unless you have a good deal on a frame only or have a ton of custom work into the slide...

our local store rarely has anyone at the counter. but I like your wife's theory :)

I went to look at some muzzleloaders at a local pawn shop today, Thanks for the heads up DaveS. Even though I think they were decent deals, I just couldn't get myself to drop the cash on them. I think for now, as a novice hunter, I will continue to use the shotgun and rifle I currently have until I figure out how much I really like hunting. if I kill a deer this year and decide I really want to make a habit of this, then I may get another bow and muzzleloader and stay out all next years season. will have to wait and see.

i had similar issues with a stag carbine. some minor sound is normal but I checked my buffer and the roll pin was backing out and tangling into the buffer spring. reset the roll pin and a dab of epoxy on the ends. it was smooth as new again and the spring was much quieter. -
that's kind of what im thinking as well. good reason to add a decent traditional muzzleloader. im sure I can do ok within reason with a rifled slug in a smooth bore barrel but a Hawkins or plains rifle will be nice as well.
-
yeah, problem on the classifieds is I have a 535. 500 barrels wont fit.

who here has hunted fort Campbell for deer? im curious as to the distance of shots taken. I know the area fairly well as I used to patrol the back 40 as a MP but don't know the hunting areas well enough to know which are fields, which are woods etc... I know its limited to shotgun, muzzleloader or archery so im guessing its not much beyond 200 yards for a long shot but how many were 100+ and how many are inside 50? debating if I should order a slug barrel or not. I know im ok inside 100 for rifled slugs, more comfortable at 50-75. supposedly a rifled slug barrel and different ammo can go to 200 yards.

18-20" is generally thought of as the optimum barrel length for the .308 which is probably why you are hearing what you are. i would say either will be fine for a hunting rifle if distance is kept reasonable. beyond that, mission dictates equipment. if you want something to be slightly easier to shoot accurately, get the longer heavier one, if you want short and handy, then get the short one. a 16" with a folding stock would be a nice handy rifle...
-
i like the UBR from magpul. its heavier than a lot of stocks but not as heavy as the PRS. my general purpose carbine wears a CTR stock with is as light as most military style stocks.

this is the difference i was talking about. http://api.ning.com/files/ILeS1nO4lpjTOSYD1dUt7k9XlwZ6AKodnNc8qSIGLcqZECo7yOUiBUwYxTz12PGpw*ZIHrd5TOWF3uSWi2eH3LbXPaW4nR-z/RugerLCP_RugerLC9.jpg?width=737&height=554 and notice the only real difference here is the length of the grip and slide to fit the 9mm vs the 380 like i mentioned. If the LC9 followed this format, i would have at least one. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WhWeKGQmXbo/UBs2Ttx0axI/AAAAAAAACL0/2L7hcFDY6Ts/s1600/stacked.jpg Apparently i cant use the image extension??? so you will have to click the links to see what im talking about

i was impressed with the 238 we got for my mother in law. have been eyeing the 938 for awhile now. range report sounds good. i kind of wish that Ruger would do a LC9 r something that's similar in concept. just a bit of length to fit the 9 where a 380 was and no other changes. i know there is more to engineering one than that but still...
-
doesn't seem like a good thing, even though its popular these days, for lawmakers to be above the law. and people wonder why we get so many stupid laws passed, when you don't have to listen to them, who cares what effect it may have as long as it sounds like you are doing a good thing.

I guess what I tried to say came out a bit twisted. I like the AR15 platform just fine. I don't like the buffer tube of the AR15, which would be my only real complaint. The cheap plastic feel I was talking about was the feel of the KT rifle. my "cheap plastic" comment was directed at the KT and not the AR15. my military experience was from 1999-2009. Ive used M16A2s and M4s.
