  1. if it helps either way, I see that palmetto state armory has 6.8spc rifle build kits for $550. just need a stripped lower and optic for a basic gun.
  2. it will really depend on intended use. I know you mention deer and coyote hunting so I think youre on the right track looking at 300BLK or 6.8spc. both would do fine. I would suggest looking into availability of ammo unless you reload. the 6.8 is a good round that's been around a bit. I personally like the idea of 300BLK as I shoot .223 and larger .30 caliber guns so reloading components are shared a bit. I think it really shines in a subsonic sbr role as that's what it was designed for but it has also been pushed to major power factor in competition.   if you reload or plan on shorter range medium/larger game, I have liked the 450 bushmaster but never played with it.
  3. 357mag will get to the lower end of 30-30 power levels. easy to look up the ballistics.   I would vote for a good peep sight in the rear and keep it scope free. this will help force you to keep it within a good safe range.   I really want to pick up a 20" rossi 92 in 357...

    The "Get Home" Gun

this i understand. i was thinking more along the lines of if it had an ak-type recoil system, it could be shortened by the length of the buffer tube and could easily tuck under the arm in a PDW fashion. just seems like a waste of 6" or so as far as pure space is concerned - i do understand it can be a makeshift stock as well as it being a necessary part of the weapons operation.   think of something like a mp5 with a collapsing stock, an underfolder "krinkov" etc. noticably shorter overall
  5. thanks guys. lots to look into.

    The "Get Home" Gun

ive been debating the AR pistol lately with this type of scenario in mind. i just hate having the buffer tube on it, which i know is necessary to that weapon platform, so i have also been thinking about an AK pistol  on a single point sling. thinking more PDW role with good power to 200 yards.   300BLK in a 9" pistol could be shot like a short carbine if needed with the buffer tube but the AK "krink" pistol would be more concealable. probably tuck either under a decent jacket if the grey man concept is more important, and it is to me.   that all said, there is also a part of me that wants a Rossi 92 in .357 magnum to pair with my S&W combat magnum...
  7. looking for someone to do machine work on a ford v8. not needing anything immediate and not needing anything super crazy for a pro race but would like good, affordable work that isn't one of the typical nightmare "screw a soldier" type stories you hear about here in Clarksville. wouldn't mind taking it to Ashland city or Nashville if needed but would prefer to keep it local.   looking for a .30 over bore on a 302. prep and install cam bearings and freeze plugs. I plan on doing the rest of the rotating assembly myself as far as installing parts.   thanks.
  8. ive had a couple sigs in the past. my only real complaint with them was the position of the slide release lever. with a high thumb, 1911-style, I tend to sit my thumb on the slide release and would get a failure to lock on empty magazine.   I know carry and own only glocks but will admit I was more accurate with the sig. more target pistol vs combat pistol accuracy. I can keep 2-3" groups at 25 yards with a glock 17 with polished internals. shrinks down to 1-2" with a sig 226 out of the box.
  9. to push others to look, I will say that he makes custom 3.8" slugs out of 50bmg cases with lathe turned rims added. gets 50bmg power from the beast too, if not better. and it would be legal everywhere as it still shoots standard shot shells if you really want so there is a "sporting use".   now if I could figure a way to get a turned barrel to match the 50 bmg twist rate and some sabots...   maybe a Mossberg "road blocker" brake...
  10. its funny how rust is used for finishes but it has been done for a very long time. Anodizing aluminum is basically the same oxidizing process. rust is oxidized steel.
  11. looks good :)   a rifled slug gun is on my want list.   ever google "12ga from hell"? might be the second half of this project...
  12. definitely thought the ex-marshal was going to be the problem all season. gonna be more interesting with the irish...
  13. thought the pigs were considered nuisance animals like most areas down south of us? or is that a fort Campbell only thing around here?
  14. so what has changed? they may not want people being owned by others anymore but when you feed and shelter the poor for free, the government can own them without calling them slaves. they still do what the government wishes so they can continue the lifestyle. and that too goes beyond race.
  15. i have the same OD green version that the OP showed. i had one while overseas with the military and it was nice to have. my current one gets worn in the woods and such. ive used it to cover my neck loosely to keep the sun off and to cover my head when bird hunting but never as a face cover like a jihadi.   a "sniper veil" also comes in handy to provide a blind and break up your outline.
  16. Nikon Prostaff 4-12x
  17. got family in central Missouri as well myself. Welcome aboard.
  18. sounds like a neat idea. closest I've seriously looked at was a ruger Blackhawk convertible with a 9mm and 357 magnum cylinder swap.   in other calibers, I have seen a 454 casull revolver that was clearance for moon clips. that gives the ability to shoot 454 casull, 45 colt, 45 acp, 45 auto rim, 45 super and 460 Rowland. pretty sure you could do the same with a 460 smith and Wesson to add 1 more caliber but at the expense of a bigger gun.   from a reloading standpoint, you could also load 45 caliber bullets into sabot loads for the .50 muzzle loaders as well as 12 or 20 gauge sabot slugs.    add in a 454 casull lever gun from Rossi and get something between 308 and 30-06 power levels at the muzzle.
  19. definitely will Dave. life is just starting to get busy. need to get some woods time in as the baby is due in a couple months.
  20.  as the OP, I don't consider this a hijack :)   I would say it depends on what you want to do with it. if you just want a ML to take a deer, then the cheaper CVA Wolf at WM has had a couple thumbs up here already. Pawn shop on Dover road had 4 ML rifles on Friday. 2 inlines and 2 traditional looking ones.
  21. not yet. have to deposit a check on Monday and will get it done later this week. start my new job tomorrow morning finally so this week is going to be busy. wife is out of town as well so there is more to do around the house right now as well as a surprise im planning for her return. looks like it will be weekend after next before I get a chance to get into the woods.
  22. I agree. I had an ATI folding stock on a SAR-1 and it didn't survive my drive to the range in the trunk of my car. don't remember hitting any huge potholes but anything short of wrecking my car should have no effect of the rifle stock in the trunk.
  23. not sure if Ft. Campbell outdoor rec is open tomorrow or not but I plan on going to get my post license tomorrow after I drop off my wife at the airport in the morning.
  24. will have to check them out.   I like the Burgers and More behind Home Depot. there is a little strip mall back there on Needmore IIRC.
  25. best bet for anything century built is to see it in person. hacked up magwells and canted front sights are among several hit or miss problems.
