  1. i asked because i recently started being a volunteer RSO. this weekend will be my third weekend. its a good way to waste a day.
  2. Just curious as to how many members here go to the MCSC for their range time?
  3. 30-06 and .308 are pretty much equal until you get the heavier bullets. the .308 is more popular for the LR crowd
  4. i too was going to get the FA scale mentioned above but heard all the same problems about interference and warm up and such. i ended up getting the RCBS digital scale and dont have any of those problems.
  5. as far as your equipment, i use the same. i have the lee single stage kit with the press that uses the bushings. i found the lee balance beam scale nearly impossible to use accurately and ended up buying a RCBS Rangemaster 750 digital scale. its great. i also use the Lee carbide due set but i get the 4 die deluxe sets. the factory crimp die is nice to have as it resizes again in the crimp step. i would add the Lee factory crimp die. the dippers are decent as well as long as you double check your weights enough to get consistant with it. +/- .2 grains is ok with the Unique. others require you to be more exacting. i actually still measure every load on the digital scale. it takes more time but i tend to be very OCD when it comes to my loads. mine are all exactly the same to the tenth of a grain. if i ever switch to a different powder or get a different powder measure, i currently use the Lee perfect powder measure that came with the kit, ill probably keep doing it this way. im not a high volume shooter and i dont mind the time in the garage reloading. its very relaxing to me. i actually enjoy reloading almost as much as shooting so its something to keep me busy and it keeps my shooting volumes down as i spend half my shooting time reloading.
  6. i have used unique and tite group in 9mm and anm using them in 45 now. i reload lead so the TG is a bit hot but it uses very little powder and is pretty quick burning. i dont really use it much. i prefer the Unique but its a bit dirty and doesnt seem to meter well for me. it is a good powder and has been used for a very long time. its fluffy so double charges are very hard to do and impossible not to notice. its very forgiving to the newer reloaders as well as there is a larger margin of error.
  7. i am going to try to get measured and spend some time shooting bows as i get the opportunity. i looked up the bow you mentioned and it looks awesome. im not in a real big hurry to buy anything just yet but maybe around the end of the year. may be my christmas present to myself
  8. thats why i figured id get started soon and have plenty of practice before next season. ill probably go get measured and such and try a few different draw weights but then wait until bow season is over to catch a deal.
  9. cool. i will check them out. WD - you have a PM in route as well. is it possible to get completely set up to go deer hunting for 500 or less? i was thinking about buying a glock for other purposes but can easily shift that money elsewhere if i wanted to.
  10. i am completely new to archery and was wanting to ask a few questions about equipment and such. i have shot a 45lb recurve bow in the past but couldnt get a consistant enough release and stopped shooting it as it was an older bow that my grandfather gave to me and it is now put away. i will not be going this year as i want the experience to make sure im good enough at it, but id like to try deer hunting with a bow next season. ive been looking at a PSE Stinger combo from cabelas. is this a decent bow? what type of arows are most people using, carbon fiber, wood, aluminum shafts? fixed or mechanical broadheads? how does the weight of a broadhead factor into the trajectory of the bow and terminal ballistics? do you use heavier or lighter? anything else i should look at or into? maybe try to find an archery shop to determine proper draw length?
  11. i think ill just get the book and skim through it a bit until i can schedule a test. is it ok to tab the book?
  12. i asked because i was curious about the testing and how hard it is? i have worked some residential rough in and finish electrical on new construction as a helper but got to doing pretty much everything myself quickly. i did take an electronics program in votech while i was in high school so im familiar with the basics and math part of it. i have also done alot of DIY stuff so im basically wondering if someone with my limited professional experience should be able to easily pass the test? im going to try to get certified so i can start working and gain more experience while im going through school for my degree and work my way up.
  13. do either of you have your LLE?
  14. look forward to meeting you. thanks again
  15. i have a mossberg 535 which is a turkey gun with a 20" barrel with the choke tubes. it does ok with slugs but i cant get comfortable shooting past 50 yards with it as accuracy suffers past that. i am going to try to get a rifled slug barrel for mine as well. Patrick Henry - you may try a different slug to tighten up those goups a bit unless you never shoot farther than that. also if you match the slug length to the camber length, you will normally get better accuracy as well, like a 3" slug in a 3" chamber as opposed to a 2-3/4" slug in a 3" chamber. it affects how accurately the slug enters the rifling. i still have a problem with this as well since i have a 3.5" chamber and i dodnt think im gonna shoot a 3.5"slug. it did prove true on my older 870 slug gun though. rifles are easier to make accurate at longer distances but sometimes you cant use them in certain areas. i have a M1A Scout i also am going to use this season but if i shoot on fort campbell, its shotgun or muzzleloader only. they do however let you shoot those firearms throughout archery season as well though.
  16. i had to look again as well. i didnt read the part about it being in GA. i was afraid they followed me from FL
  17. PM sent, very generous offer you've made.
  18. Join Glock Sports Shooting Foundation for $35 and get LEO discount - Stikey - Glock Talk
  19. glock has a pretty liberal discout program. if you are anyway connected in their homeland defense category, military, LE, EMT, fire, etc then you get them with three mags for less than 500 out the door. thats the same price range as the Kahr that seems to be the popular choice so far. also if you dont qualify that way, you can sign up for the GSSF, Glock Shooting Sports Foundation, and receive a certificate for a LE package Glock for 398+shipping
  20. i know i need more but 1K of pistol ammo and 250 rounds of .308 is a decent start. i do admit the rifle limit was set back when i had a bolt gun only. now i have the M14 i need a few more cans. im currently buying battle packs to keep stored. gonna hit the 1K mark with that as well. i reload for my pistol and rifle but have recently run out of extra bullets. got plenty of powder and primers but no bullets, i know i know. but that why i have a reserve stock
  21. maybe i missed it earlier in the thread but if you are looking at the SR9, why not try out a Glock 19 or XD9 as well? i personally think the Glock 19 is one of the best all around pistols out there, big enough to shoot comfortably and small enough to conceal easily. it holds 15+1.
  22. supposedly he can do it with a 1911 starting with the hammer down as well. closest i came was having my M9 in a serpa holster and pulling the slide back one handed while it was locked into the holster. does that count? i just tried it with my 1911 with the hammer back and i still couldnt get the slide to budge.
  23. my neighbor is relying on tarps and ply wood now as they had a car drive through the front door of their house yesterday. talk about a disaster.
  24. i think "normal" is probably a single box of ammo for each different caliber. i personally keep a 30 caliber ammo can full of .45 and another full of .308 and a 50 caliber ammo can full of various 12ga shells. mostly 00 buck or #4 turkey loads but some slugs and birdshot as well. this is my minimum. i wont get less than this or i quit shooting until necessary. i dont even own a gun that shoots it but i have 1K of 22lr as well.
  25. got side tracked with yard work today. im gonna rip into it tomorrow
