  1. any other sources other than a soda bottler? buddy of mine works for tyson down in MS and they get vinegar in drums but their policy is to destroy thebarrels. anything similar in our area?
  2. i am trying to get cheap or free barrels, not 90 dollar barrels. sorry those can be found easily. i have been told about a few bottlers who will let you take as many as you can haul for free. i was hoping to come across a deal like this. there are several bottlers in the nashville area but they all seem to be distributors and not actual bottlers. i was hoping someone here may know of an actual bottler where i could get some barrels. or another similar source. my rain barrels will be for watering my garden primarily and a source of grey water if anything local happens to nterrupt service. since its for my garden as well, id prefer no chemical barrels. i also plan on storing potable water in a few of them in my garage as well.
  3. i thought there was a thread on here not too long ago but i cant find it right now about barrel sources. i was pointed towards Beaman bottling out in nashville but they are just a distributor is what the operator told me and gave me another number to another bottler in town but all i got was a generic answering service. does anyone know of a place i can get a dozen or so plastic food grade barrels without selling the house to afford it? im planning some rain barrels and water storage as well as other storage ideas. please help me out. they dont necessarily have to be 55g either, the smaller plastic barrels would be fine.
  4. wasnt this already declared to be a bad law? cant remember the correct terminology right now. if it does go through, id be looking for a suppressor manufacturer in the state
  5. ive been debating getting a 9mm carbine as well. i would like to get a KT but now i may build a LWD AR if they ever get them back in. the KT gets the nod for compact but the AR is what im more familiar with. i did shoot the HP and didnt like it at all.
  6. im glad to see that countersniper optic pic was mounted on a carry handle. was thinking it would be a bit tall and it is but it seems feasible.
  7. you can get stripped uppers for around $80 from Bravo Company USA. thats what i may do with my A2 carbine as well. a 1x dot can be useful out to 200 yards with practice and training but thats just hitting a target, not a clean kill on a smaller animal. the DMS from Millett is a good option. might work on the carry handle with a short rail section on top of the handle and low rings. still pretty high though. also look into a gooseneck type mount that will attach to the carry handle but places a mount above the handguards for an aimpoint or other reddot. why not shoot this upper as is and get a LR upper? 20-24" heavy barrel?
  8. i really have wanted to do this for awhile as well. mostly out of interest. ive liked large caliber rifles and archery but multiple shoulder surgeries make those harder to handle. handgun hunting would be great.
  9. i also saw a tool box that was used to carry a broken down AR but i cant find it now. wish i could as id like to do it.
  10. im in the process of restocking as i just switched from a 45 and 308 to a 9mm and 223. this was done to save money for other preps as well as have common guns between all of my close friends and family. we all have at least 1 AR and Glock 9mm per house, usually more. i think 1K per caliber is a good start for a stock at the house. i wouldnt leave home with more than a couple hundred per person though. my goal on the move is 5 mags per rifle and 3 mags per pistol. those numbers include one mag in the guns. i think a good option for survival hunting typer scenarios would be a .22 conversion for the rifle and pistol. they are simple dropins and can pack a bulk pack of .22lr for an extra pound or two. i do believe that food and water are more important as the guns and ammo because you have to survive long enough to be effective and physical fitness is as important or more than the weapons as well because you have to be able to move.
  11. ill never be alone so i dont really have to choose Ill take the Shotgun and AR for my wife and i.
  12. pm me the details. i work in nashville and clarksville
  13. i daily carry a CRKT M21. my field knife is a Cold Steel SRK.
  14. ive never not carried to WM. never noticed a posting. ive even open carried a glock 21 in a SERPA and noone said anything to me at all. did notice my aisles werent as crowded that day though
  15. i have no problems concealing most any handgun with the proper holster and belt. i think most people who carry obsess over it much more than any casual onlooker in the grocery store. my daily carry is a 5" 1911. i have carried a glock 34 and 35 as well in the past. that said, if i already had a P3AT, id probably go with the 19. its a great all around gun and a good comprimise. you already have a pocket/ankle gun so get a step up from that, not another pocket gun.

    I'm torn G26 or G27

i am in the process of trying to finad a 26 myself. i just prefer the 9mm and 45 over the 40. i had a glock 35 with a conversion barrel but ended up shooting 9mm 75% of the time. now i have a glock 17 and a 1911.
  17. i called the smith out in guns and leather. he referred me to a guy over in memphis which he used to send out to for blueing. he explained to me that there is not really a good way to repair what i need done with rust pitting and said i should just shoot it as is. im gonna get a second opinion but thats the initail report.
  18. i need to get on the ball as well. i think this may be worth fighting for a spot on ft campbell unless something else comes along. i know when i was patrolling the back 40, the birds were so dumb you could run over them in a tahoe but come opening day last year i didnt see one anywhere. lots of pressure on the fort though.
  19. i am looking for a gunsmith in the clarksville area, may go to nashville if necessary as well. i just got a Smith and Wesson model 19-4 that was bought new in 1980 by my FIL. he left it sitting for the last 5 years and there is some rust pitting on the muzzle, underlug, and a couple spots on the cylinder. im looking to get it refinished and the internals replaced. any ideas on who may be up to it locally?

    Red Dot Accuracy

the aimpoint c2 or ml2 that you mentioned you have is a 4moa dot. add that to the basic 2 moa carbine and you get 6 moa groups. remember that sight is meant for shooting at people not points. if you want more accuracy, get a more accurate sight. id recommend switching to an EO Tech as they have a 1moa dot in a 65moa circle. very fast and accurate. the Trijicon is also a great option with the red chevron reticle.
  21. and great ones at that
  22. i do agree with the situational awareness and such. my wife used to be a cop but didnt like the job. shes not anti gun but doesnt feel comfortable carrying one. she is enrolling in self defense classes as soon as we find some here in town as well. we are also always going over different scenarios and such while out in public. we quiz each other constantly about how many people are in an area, where the exits are, etc... we have code words we use in conversation to key each other in to things that make her nervous and such as well. i just want to give her a more useful tool than her bottles of pepper spray she now carries. ive personally seen severeal people i have sprayed in the line of duty have no effect with the spray.
  23. my wife is reluctant to carry a firearm for her own reasons, have them in hte house and i carry but she doesnt want to. she has shown interest in carrying a taser lately. is there any certification or permit needed for her to carry a taser? yes im talking about the actual taser that shoots the wire prong leads out and not just a stun gun type thing.
  24. i currently carry a ss milspec daily. its a great gun. i do get bit from time to time but its not nearly as bad as most would have you believe. i dont notice it while im shooting. of the two id get the SA as its a better quality gun. you can always send it back to SA to get the beavertail installed later and it will come out alot better than if you just bought the Loaded as their custom shop is top notch.
  25. M1A Scout. thats what i have and what id recommend. my second choice would be the AR10. i know the Garand has more collector appeal and is more than enough rifle but i just prefer the mag fed .308s. you already have a M24 clone so i would get a mid range weapon like an 18" M1A. they are great out to 600 meters and further if youre up to it. i shoot my scout regularly at 200 yards. i maintain 2moa with south african surplus and no modifications to the rifle yet. as far as mags being expensive, 44Mag.com has been running a sale most of the year for CMI mags, current usgi, for 20/each. i also have a couple c-products and several unknown mags. out of the 10 ive bought, 1 double fed but was corrected by adjusting the feed lips. an AR10 will be the same price for mags. if not more as well. the only way to get cheap mags is to get a ptr/hk91. the mags can be had for as little as 99cents. the rifle is not known for accuracy though. if you plan on shooting irons, the M1A would be my choice. you can upgrade to a NM hooded aperature if youd like as well. the AR10 would give you the same irons as your M4 and is seen as easier to make accurate. i think they are still not quite proven enough on their reliability though. the military did just go to them for some Sniper applications but they are fielding more M14s in the DMR role than the AR10s by far.
