  1. I got the compliant version with the bull barrel so that I could chop it down.
  2. I am in gallatin and am in need of a gunsmith who can chop a couple inches off of my m&p10 barrel and thread it for a brake. Who would you guys recommend? Wouldn't mind shipping if I need to but would prefer not to...
  3. Looks like the order forms are basically blank now. Didn't see a price list at all...
  4. I have shot many belt feds from .223 to 40mm in the military. I appreciate the info and you may end up correct. Even if I do hate it, I still want to do it. I would even settle for a sear gun if the opportunity presents itself...
  5. I came across a guy at a gun show who gave me his card for machine gun rentals somewhere here in middle tennessee and I have lost the contact info. Iirc this guy was in the area northeast of nashville. Between gallatin and Murfreesboro maybe? Anyway, a glock 18 is on my bucket list to shoot. Anyone know of anyplace to shoot one in the area? My backup is trying to get away while I am in Vegas for training in February but I'm not sure how much free time during the day I will have then.
  6. That thread is what reminded me of the cannery and got me looking at it again...
  7. I run a set of ameriglo hackathorns. It's a tritium front with an orange luminescent ring and a plain rear
  8. I have recently moved to gallatin and am much closer to the lds cannery now. Does anyone have a current price list? Current info on times it's open and rules for non member visits?
  9. Just moved from clarksville to gallatin and need to find a place to shoot my 2 308 rifles. Pistol and skeet ranges would be great as well. I've seen the gallatin gun club website but it says it's met it's quota and not accepting new members... Can you guys point me to something close? I'm sure I won't find something like the Montgomery County shooting complex here but it would be nice if there were such a place...
  10. That's a bit out of my budget but I did look at another 5k Sq ft place on 25 acres. Was a foreclosure for 200k. Sold the day I wanted to look at it...
  11. I've looked at a few places in Westmoreland but my map is saying it's too far of a drive at 45 minutes. That may have been the north side though. My new career will be at hoaganaes if that matters for location.
  12. I will be starting a new job in gallatin next month. I currently live in clarksville and will be looking to move closer within a few months. I have been looking for 2 to 10 acres in the gallatin and castalian springs area but really don't know anything about the area. Are there any places that you would recommend looking at withing 20 minutes of gallatin? Any places to generally stay away from? Any place to look so that I'm in better schools for my children? Any schools to avoid? Any general info you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
  13. a good friend of mine is a GC in the area and has built them before. can PM you his info if interested.
  14. yeah, my friend likes to be prepared...
  15. i currently have a gen 3 17 with a gen 3 22 in route. a gunsmith buddy of mine stippled my 17 and added some sights, did a trigger job and such and its been amazing. i recently added a threaded barrel for it. we got to talking about changes again and i said i had thought about starting with a 22 so i could get the multiple caliber use even though i don't really care for 40 too much. so he took our conversation and built himself a clone of my 17 in a 22 and then got a threaded 9mm conversion barrel for it. after all the fuss, turns out he wants to go 1911 again so im getting his 22 at a steal...   that said, if i get a glock in the future, it will probably be a 40 frame to get the multiple caliber use if only just because.   ive had multiple 34s, 35s, 19s, a 21sf, and a 26 in the past. the 17 with a threaded barrel is by far my favorite setup. my next will likely be a very similar build in a gen 3 21, non-SF.
  16. really wish I could find some large rifle primers locally. might have to go to the show...
  17. here is a link for anyone interested. http://pullig.dyndns.org/practicalpreps/forums3/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=813
  18. I have wanted one of these since I read a writeup done by a friend from another forum. he was talking about a trigger upgrade from red star arms and uses a 3-9x posp type scope that you sight in at 300 yards on 3x and it adjusts point of impact based on distance as you increase magnification, 400 on 4x, 500 on 5x etc... it ranges by placing the target in a box and when it fits the box, its basically on the magnification range for that distance and such...   will see if I can find that writeup. its older but great info.
  19. my top ten would be: 1. 9mm polymer framed full sized pistol 2. 1911 in 45acp 3. 4" .357 magnum revolver 4. .223 ar15 carbine 5. m14 6. 30-06 bolt action 7. 12ga pump action shotgun 8. ar10 9. 357 magnum lever action 10. something in .50 bmg
  20. I really need to get back on this but its a bit cold lately in an uninsulated garage. might be worth messing with since we have a warm weekend.
  21. i carry a bigger edc in the cooler months Glock 17 with a threaded barrel and a magwell and a WL-1 light attached in a Personal Security Systems custom holster. spare mag with a +2 extension in a comp-tac single mag holder Kershaw folder smaller buck 3 blade for daily tasks fenix ld-10 light in the warmer weather, i will take off the magwell at times but the more i carry it the less i notice it.
  22. my next mid range scope will be a SWFA.com Super Sniper 1-6x24 HD FFP scope. they run around $1k iirc but the reticle interests me a lot. at 1x, its a donut with a small crosshair in the middle but at 6x, since its a FFP scope, the reticle grows into a regular milling type reticle and the donut pretty well disappears.   the biggest thing I don't like about the razor hd is its a reticle for .223 iirc and I will run mine on an 18" .308
  23. I would go with a Remington 700 AAC-SD model with a 20" .308 barrel for $700. add in quality rings and base and a Vortex Viper PST scope and finally a r700p takeoff stock from hs precision. PTG bottom metal and some 10 round mags from Accurate. puts you between 1800 and 2200 depending on scope model. then get a suppressor for that.   hole up somewhere and pick off the zombies from cover. use subsonics when they are closer and full power to reach out and touch someone.
  24. the pressure curves of some powders can create a spike in the gas system that can damage the op-rods. keep the burn rates between imr-3031 and imr-4320 and you should be ok. http://www.hogdon.com/burn-rate.html looks to be powders #78-100 so you have a few choices.
  25. buffalo bore claims 158gr at 2153fps and 1623ft/lbs from an 18" barrel.   hornady lever evolution ammo with a 160gr bullet 2132fps and 1615ft/lbs from a 16" barrel according to "the truth about guns"   I think up close, within 100 yards or so, most wont tell the difference but I can see where the 160gr hornady bullet might do better at distance due to bullet shape.
