If you want to get the most from your 1911 then you need to consider the full size 5" version in 45 ACP. If you think that you may want to change it in the future you need to consider a couple of things like how the front sight is installed. Dovetailed front sights make changing the sights easier and less costly. Most Colts have a pinned front sight which require special tools or a trip to the gunsmith. Also look at the lowered and flared ejection port which is stand for Kimbers, Springfields, etc... but Colt does not have. If you plan on carrying then you need low profile sights like the Novak style on the springfields. As you can tell from the many replies there is lots of love and hate for certain products. I would recommend the TRP but the Springfield triggers are not the best. The ones that I have owned have alot of creep and needs to have a trigger job performed to becomed great. Do not get me wrong, they are good out of the box but not great. Out of the box the Kimbers have the best trigger. The Kimbers are also a little easier to sell if you do not like it. However do not expect to go to the gun shop and pay 'new' price, plus tax and $10 then expect to sell the Kimber for what you paid. Once you buy new expect 70-80% back on the price that you paid new. %50 percent on accessories. Basically my top three recommendations are the TRP, Kimber Custom II, Springfield Loaded Series

I would recommend the 327 magnum for a woman to carry. Look around and I am sure that you will find some decent priced ammo for her to try it out. She probably doesn't need to shoot it 1000 times to become proficient enough with it either. The advantage over the 38 special revolvers is that the 327's hold 6 rounds instead of 5 rounds. Also like the other post said, you have the option of using some lighter 32 caliber loads. CDNN had some good deals on taurus 327 revolvers last time I checked. Just my opinion.

That looks really nice. Please let us know how it shoots.

What do I need to know about M11's?
jredbryant replied to Verne's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I have a M11 and the Lage SF upper. I have the Lage 22 conversion also. I had a registered receiver and sold it two years ago because I enjoyed shooting the M11 so much. If you have a chance to get a suomni drum mag conversion and the Lage slow fire uper it is pure heaven. 72 rd mag dumps are no problem and they all on target with the lage! The 22 kit is great but nothing beats full power 9mm. I use the 22 kit where there is a large crowd that wants to shoot:) -
The old 1911's with the 'shake and rattle' slide is what passed the Army trials. Drop them in the mud and they keep running. When we try to make the guns into target guns we loose the reliablity. I don't think anyone has overcome that problem.

I have a Les Baer, and a S&W Performance Center 1911. Both those guns shoot great fron the bench. I have not gotten into IDPA but I know some guys that have shot the Les Baer. The Les Baer ran well for them during the match but most people at the match made fun of their high priecd guns that don't work!

AR "SBR" Upper Suggestions...
jredbryant replied to creeky's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I had a 10.5" on my M16 and had relaibility problems so I 'bored' out the gas port. I went a little too far and the gun would not run in full auto (bolt ounce). I would go with the LMT or CMMG only! -
Looking for NFA dealer here in TN

S&R guns in Cookeville charges $50 for any NFA transfer except a Transferable machine gun which is $100. I suggest that anyone looking for a suppresso, AOW, or SBR that doesn't do a Form 1 should buy the weapon from their local dealer. You can probably get a suppressor for $0 cheaper by getting it from someone out of state but your local dealer will help you through the process. -
I shot my M&P a couple of weeks ago with no problems. We where shooting bowling pins in the backyard and I started off shooting to either side. I noticed that I had my trigger finger too deep into the trigger gaurd. I pulled the trigger finger back alittle and I started nailing most of the pins. The gun worked great. S&W has a real winner on their hands.

The slow cycling just felt funny. I wanted to make sure that the gun wasn't screwed up. I will try a few hundred more rounds before I pass final judgement. If the 40 has lighter recoil because of the heavier slide we might have a winner in the carry gun divison.

Looking for NFA dealer here in TN

There are other Class III dealers besides Hero Gear. The process is easy but it is not for those that do not have patience. -
I got the Stainless Steel version in 9mm on Friday. I shot it Friday afternoon but it felt a little sluggish. All of the rounds went bang and the shots went where I wanted them to go (at least close to where I wanted). The slide felt like it was slow cycling. Is this a problem with these guns? Could it be that it was new? The gun fits great in your hands, and mine came with the Blade Tech holster, double mag pouch, training barrel and 3 mags. Give me your thoughts please.

I have never shot the 82A but I have heard that they shoot about 5 MOA at 1000 yds. If you handload you can get a little better accuracy with a longer round. If you want a 82A buy it. If you buy something else you'll end up trading it for the 82 down the road.

How to sell a SBR?
jredbryant replied to Paletiger13's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
You can always send a form to the ATF and have it removed from the registry and returning thebarrel length to greaterthan 16".If you no longer want the gun just post a WTS ad and see what happens. -

Mike's in Jackson Tennessee is a great guy. He has lots and lots of class three stuff on hand. However, he doesn't like to sell the transferable MG's because the value keeping rising. Mark Scott in Chatanooga usually has one or too in stock. S&R guns in Cookeville has at least one transferable in stock. I got my tansferable from the web. Both guns where in TN and I got the opportunity to inspect the gun before buying. Good luck. -
I would say that without the original box the gun would sell for $425. That is what I see them going for locally. At the Pope show one year ago my friend carried around a 586 in similar shape and got no offers above $375.

Most 22 kits for other guns Ceiner kits, lake city LM7, and others need a lot of tweaking to work. I think that is why the Norell 10/22 pack is so popular.

I saw an ad for a S&W and YHM cobra combo for trade on Sturmgewehr.com by Hero gear. I sent an e-mail with a trade offer but I did not even get a response. At the time I noticed that you where in Winchester, TN. I thought that the combo looked cool. Anyway, I would like to get a .45 can, and a 308 can. Do you have both in stock? Are they new or used? Do you do the fingerprints or do you send folks to the sheriff? Thanks.

I posted this thread in the wrong forum. If someone could move it, that would be great. Most 50 BMG's employ very effective muzzlebreaks. Some kick like a 30/06 and recoil like a 3.5" turkey load from a 12 ga. My state arms is more like the 30/06. I have eard that the AR 50 is the most effctive of all the breaks. I bought a Lee 50 BMG kit from the reloader's bench at a gun show ($200), some powder, primers, bullets, and brass. Is you buy all the components you can load them with good bullets and powder for about $1.75 a round. Once you reuse the brass you are at less than $1.00 a round. All of the reasons why you don't need one can be explained away! I need more people to shoot 50's so the neighbors won't know which one of us to call.

Where did you get the Cobra? Did you find a stocking dealer for YHM?

Ashland City ADA not NFA friendly

This sems to be an issue with every new sheriff. I was the lucky one last year to ask the new sheriff to sign for a M16. He called me and asked what the paper work was for ( I had to leave it with his secretary). I told him that I was a collector and that I like to shoot full auto. He said that he would call the ATF and he would get back with me. Later that afternoon the Form 4 was signed. Since then he has been really cool. -
It has been just about one year since I tried my first 50 BMG. It was a McMillan Bench rifle with a Night Force scope. We where shooting at 525 yards. The gun has very little recoil and I was instantly hooked. I now have a State Arms shorty and I would like to find some other local 50 BMG shooters to talk about the 50 BMG.

I have owned both guns at some point. The PT1911 is a fine gun with features that would cost extra on other guns. For example slim line grips, and front strap checkering. You do not see 20 LPI checkering on Kimber's, Springfield's or other under the $1000 mark. The Taurus has a nice trigger and is reliable. I do not like the sights but I have heard that for combat use the big front dot is the thing to have. I like to target shoot with the 1911's but I carry a Glock. I believe that if John Browing would have liveda few decades longer he would have invented the Glock pistol first. The XD's are just as good as the Glock IMHO. I refer the Glock's simplistic design

I am a little new. Where is his shop located? How close is the P6 in size to a Kahr CW9?

I love my 1911's. I also prefer the commander as a carry gun. You will also need a Full size for target shooting. Just to be safe you will want to get an officiers model for 'Sunday'dress clothes, then a 10mm for deer hunting, a 9mm for the wife, and a 22 converstion kit.
