  1. what about an SKS? thoughts?
  2. dude.. you got a thing for .357s!
  3. yea.. i think semi auto is a must for this gun...
  4. I'm looking to getting a fun, low-cost, versatile rifle. I've got no preconceived notions/preferences... so I'm open to any and all options. Ideally, I want something I can hunt with, plink with, and feel good about for defense purposes as well. Something that can take a beating, is easy to maintain, and in an a caliber that is abundant, inexpensive, and effective. Asking alot aint I? What do y'all think? Anything out there fit this bill?
  5. exactly!
  6. congrats.. im coming up on week 5.. heres to hoping!
  7. Yetis are my primary concern.
  8. what about a light machete or small axe? worthwhile addition?
  9. man.. i really need an AR or something similar.. money money money.
  10. not to go off on a rabbit trail, but the .45ACP 185gr Golden Sabers have a 96% stopping power with 12.4" penetration.. the best .357 JHP also has a 96% stopping power ratio with 12.3" penetration. Am I missing something here? What is the .357 going to give me over my .45?
  11. Awesome Response SUNTZU.. I appreciate the effort you took to write it!
  12. thanks for the clarification. those are good points.
  13. the sp101 is in .357. I dont think I have ever seen a bear around here... I cant imagine a couple of Golden Saber .45's not doing the job, but maybe im wrong.
  14. holy cow.. how did I forget my life long friend duct tape?! good calls on that, the superglue, and the rest. GREAT insight there. Thanks H0TSH0T! regarding the charcoal filter.. Ive got water pills, they are tiny. are the ineffective? Nightrunner.. I dont know of any animal I could encounter here in mid TN that a .45 wouldnt do the trick on. I dont think I need another gun and ammo. I like the rifle idea.. I dont have one though. I guess I need to invest in one and stop borrowing my Dad's Marlin 3030.
  15. Exactly. It folds down to be really compact, weights nothing.. but the sterno has some weight.
  16. nice additions. yea.. i guess some water has to go in there. yes. the AM/FM radio is a flashlight.. ill edit that. The camping stove comes with a a spoon/fork/knife tool and a large aluminum bowl/pan for cooking.
  17. Ok guys, putting together a bug-out bag for me and the wife. I'm still going through it in my mind, and I'm sure I need to make some changes. I'm no survival expert and I would love some input you guys who know better. So far I have a single backpack that carries (no particular order): Small first aid kit (antiseptic, bandages, needle, thread, aspirin, etc.) 2 Swiss army knives Glock 21, Taurus PT145, Ruger SP-101 (100 rds .45, 50 rds .38) Cash and some pocket change 1 roll Toilet paper & girl hygiene stuff (in ziplock baggies) 2 set of clothes (me & her: 2 jeans, 2 sweatshirts, 2 T's socks & undies) 2 small rain ponchos 8 cans of chef boyardee, 8 cans of tunafish Water tablets (enough for 50 liters) 1 quart thermos 1 portable camp stove with two 8-hour sterno cans 2 8 hour emergency candles & 2 lighters 1 Magnesium Flint & striker 1 liquid filled compass 50 Feet of Nylon Rope 2 pens, 1 pencil, and a notepad Portable am/fm Radio & Flashlight with hand generator (and batteries) 2 books: Pocket Outdoor Survival Guide & Edible Wild Plants & Herbs Detailed laminated map of middle TN Everything sits in the bag packed and ready to go with exception of the 3 pistols which are in their normal places around the house, but I can collect them and toss them in the bag in about 30 seconds. Right next to the bag is a compact 2-man tent and one -40F sleeping bag (big enough for two, right? ) ready to be grabbed and carried with the bag. questions: What is missing? / also what is there that doesn't need to be? more ammo? This bag is getting heavy already... do I include my shotgun & 00 buck in the emergency plan? not enough food? different food? water? Thanks guys!
  18. +1 hard to beat a gun that weighs only 23 oz, 11 round capacity and packs a 45 caliber wallop with minimal recoil.
  19. snap caps
  20. AR
  21. Very interesting/strange. Does anyone know if this has been tested in court?
  22. Well. I dont think Titans fans can cry no respect much anymore. We kicked off the preseason with the HOF game in Canton and now the NFL season opener against the world champs. I dont know too many other teams that have had that honor in the past...
  23. Thanks for that! I did the best I could to paint a picture that I know has run across my mind more than once, and I suspect I am not alone. Im right there with you Willis and I agree - HCP holders DO have an extra responsibility to educate themselves on the law and the rules of their surroundings. For myself personally, my job involves taking clients to lunch and/or dinner daily, and sometimes I dont even know where we are going until I am already in transit or picking them up from their office/airport. I do this in multiple cities across the state and very often it is a group of businessmen/women in which I am engrossed in conversation as we approach the front door. It may be late at night in Memphis or on a rainy day in a crowded restaurant in Clarksville. My point of all this is to say that even with my best efforts, I might miss a sign or not see one or otherwise find myself carrying where I should not. So I am faced with the proposition of just flat out not carrying while I'm working or possibly finding myself running afoul of the law which I DO NOT want to do.
  24. Well - I'm loving this little 3rd gen Taurus MillPro .45ACP, but these Heinie Straight Eight sights are taking some getting used to. Heinie says, "It is a proven fact that the human eye can correct vertical alignment quicker then horizontal alignment." Some reviews I see say these Straight 8 sights are designed for fast target acquisition. I'm no tactical expert, so I cant really tell a difference. All I know is its weird. Before I rip off the sights off this new gun and go back to what I'm used to, I would love to hear from others with more experience. Should I try and stick it out and learn to use these sights?
  25. He is their best player, imo.
