  1. love mine. Hogue grips are a must for this gun. stock photo
  2. maybe I should print off and bring a copy of the TN code validating person to person transfer of firearms in TN...
  3. I may be mailing a gun to another TN resident across the state. I read through the UPS rules on shipping a handgun, and I dont see anything there that would propose a problem. I know it must be sent via UPS Next Day Air®, or UPS Next Day Air Saver® but other than that, and pitfalls to be aware of? UPS: Shipping Firearms Anyone out there sent a gun person to person via UPS before?
  4. It was on sale for $329 at Dicks.
  5. Jcochran88 You win! After lots of reading, and already being familiar with the caliber, I picked up a Marlin 336 today. It really met my initial criteria well: Inexpensive, huntable, plinkable, suitable for defense/survival, durable, non-complex, with cheap powerful ammo available everywhere. The 30-30 really fits that bill. I was really looking at SKS's seriously, but most of the ones I saw in person were pretty ratty looking, and the nice ones I came across were not really cheap at all. Also, I wanted a reliable scope mount, and found out that that many people had difficulty with scopes on SKS's holding zero and I didnt really wanted to be drilling receivers. I did like their range, capacity, and reputation for hardiness. I do have a new found respect for SKS's and learned alot about them recently, and will probably get one one day.. just not today. So I settled on the Marlin 336 and I am very pleased. Its a beautiful gun. The walnut stock feels great to hold and looks nice against the blued steel barrel. Its lightweight, with a short overall length, and having shot 30-30 before, I know it has a relatively light, manageable recoil for a .3x caliber round. Its also nice to own an American legend! I am looking forward to getting this bad boy ready for deer season! Thanks for all the suggestions y'all.
  6. dont think its "taboo".. just the polygonal rifling in glock barrels will lead up something awful and require extra cleaning after firing. most elect to get standard rifling barrel for their glocks so they can shool lead bullets w/ the hassle.
  7. You cant buy from an dealer in KY and bring it back?
  8. Thats been debated alot lately. Some say the sign has to be the exact verbiage as in the link I posted. The AG has said the sign need only be "substantially similar" to the recommended verbiage. Some here think that any sign that implies no-guns means that business is anti-gun and we should not patronize it anyway. YMMV
  9. wasn't there a story a while back where some guy bought a gun that turned out to be stolen and he got in big trouble because he couldn't prove how he came to acquire the gun? I may be "misremembering" that one....
  10. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/27875-no-guns-allowed-sign-question.html
  11. Well. the receipt has his signature on it. I can't really "produce" that and a specialist could prove that it was his signature if it came to that.
  12. excellent points. I do most of those now..but I guess we can always do more.
  13. exactly.. since when is 12:44 PM too early to drink?
  14. definitely fabricated.. but fun to read.
  15. I really like this point. So lets say you are right an OC is not the answer. How does John Q Citizen help "establishing a more gun-friendly mind-set" in his community? Phil's right. NOTHING will be said or done. But that also means nothing GOOD will be said or done. If a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? If 200,000 TN permit holders carry concealed, does anyone know? (or care?). What will soccer mom and Joe Leftwing think about guns when its their turn at the ballot box?
  16. Transaction went real well. I brought two bills of sale and the seller was thankfully surprised! He said "i thought about bringing one, but didn't know how to make one up".. It worked out great. Now we can prove that the gun was legally purchased (and not stolen) and the seller has a signed statement that he sold the gun to someone legally allowed to purchase a firearm in TN.
  17. I was there too. What a fiasco. way too many people at someones "house". Cant blame the auctioneers for the rain.. I felt bad for them cause boneheads were trying to go 4wheeling in their Honda civics.. auction staff had to spend time parking cars. An outside auction in a monsoon is no fun at all. And yea. the prices were bananas. You would think this was the barrett jackson of gun auctions. When I saw that AK go for $500 I started to move out. I left when the 3rd gun came up. I had my eye on the old Marlin 336. Glad I didnt stick around.. you say it went for $410.. and you get get one NEW at Dicks for $349 ($329 on sale) oh well - thats how auctions go sometimes.. Im sure the sellers are partying tonight!
  18. no clue who this guys is.. I will bring two blank bills of sale and request he complete, sign and give me one. If he doesnt want to do that - forget him. Thanks Metalhead!
  19. Just wondering if its recommended to get a receipt or copy of the bill of sale If I am buying a rifle from another person. Want to make sure my bases are covered here. Any advice or links to printable forms?
