  1. I've looked everywhere and can not find the subcompact Jericho (all steel, no rail, frame safety) even on auction sites. The Canik Shark C and Tristar T100 look similar aesthetically, does anyone have any experience with them?
  2. Most people are upstanding citizens, but I want a receipt showing the agreed upon amount (or trade) in black and white as well as a disclaimer saying there's no warranty and both parties agree the firearm is as-is. So I do require bills of sale, signed by a witness, and we both get a copy. I respect that some people don't want to do that, which is why I mention it in the for-sale ad -- so there is no surprises and if it's not something they're willing to do, they can simply pass and neither one of us wastes our time. I like this one, nice and simple
  3. Sold one, regretted it and bought another... I use the kel tec pocket clip along with a MIC holster to protect the trigger and carry it IWB around 3:00. Easy to put on, take off, you can load and unload without ever exposing the trigger which is nice (though not necessary). It's like a pocket knife for me, put it on and forget it's there.

    Glock 43

I think the shield is an excellent value for your dollar and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to people looking for a first gun. Small, reliable, and relatively inexpensive. For my purposes it had no place though. I carry IWB, and I wanted something with a shorter grip than my XD9sc (roughly G19 size) in hopes of printing a little less... and honestly even the XD didnt print that much. Very rarely would anyone notice. I tried the shield thinking the thinness would help but it really didnt, grip length was the determining factor for me (ymmv). Lost a lot of capacity. Enter the G26. Double stack but shorter grip. Uncomfortable to hold, and I would have been turned off to it had I judged it based on that alone but I shot great with it though and printed less for my carry method. So I'm glad they made the 43 grip shorter than the shield for when I want an even more minimal carry. It conceals better than the shield when I need it to (flush magazine) and when I dont need to worry as much about it the finger extension lets me use all my fingers and is every bit as comfortable in the hand as the shield... I like options.
  5. For fun? American 180 .22LR
  6. The HS2000 reference is exactly what I was thinking too. I bought a used Jericho 941 from Buds when they had them on sale for ~$239, so I was looking for information on them, spare parts etc (which are hard to find even for those), and came across the Canik 55 Shark and the Tristar t120 which are basically clones of the Jericho, they look almost the same, but I had never heard of them before then. Nothing but positive reviews so far though... and so I'm sure the price will just keep creeping upwards to the point where I might as well buy one of the more well known guns (Glock, M&P, etc) like it did with the HS2000 / XD line. Like you said, if only parts were more readily available....

  8. NAA Pug count? Sometimes in boot, sometimes IWB, sometimes in watch pocket of jeans...
  9. to confirm, once it dries is it OK to have it around cats? Not laying around where they can sleep on it or whatever but on my boots by the door and on clothes hanging up in the same room?
  10. Quantico was $15 transfer + $10 background check last I checked. It's on TN side.
  11. I'd be down if there was a bullet that took advantage of all that extra recoil, but since it never took off as much as 9mm/40/45 there's little motivation to really push it to it's limits with a bullet designed specifically for the velocities the 10mm can achieve.  As far as I know a lot of the available loads utilize bullets designed for .40 velocities and are essentially over-driven past their optimal expansion windows leading to poor weight retention and pedals folded back on themselves in a lot of cases reducing the diameter of the permanent cavity.   I think it would be interesting to design a caliber based on desired terminal effects first (ie, 12-15" penetration but with reliable average of 1" expansion) and see what interesting combinations people come up with to achieve those ends.

    7.62x25

It's an AR upper that takes p90 magazines

Too bad you can't find PS90s chambered in it!

    357 SIG

I like the caliber. I was going to get an M&P40c and a conversion barrel but ended up going 9mm for ammo commonality and price. You could always go whole hog and get 9x25 Dillon ;)

    Keltec PF9

I used to have a P3AT for those minimal carry days (belt clip + MIC holster).  I sold it and regretted it.... so when I went to buy a new one, I couldn't help but notice a PF9 was only $20 more, and it's in 9mm, so I pulled the trigger. The PF9 is a small, slim 9mm and I set it up like the P3AT (belt clip + MIC holster), but it didn't "disappear" like the P3AT does.   It's pretty punishing to shoot as others have mentioned, and I was not happy with my accuracy with it compared to my other firearms so I ended up selling it.  I'd say it's a good budget option as long as you thoroughly test it to prove it's reliability before carrying. Mine went bang every time, my friends had tons of malfunctions, being a kel tec they can be reliable but you'll have to do it on a case by case basis.   Of course, if you look around you can probably find a shield for less than $100 more...
  17. Try a variety, and actually rent and shoot them if you can. You would be surprised, sometimes the one that feels best in the hand doesn't shoot best for you. Also single stacks don't necessarily hide better than double stacks depending on your frame. I am 5'7" and 165 and my G26 concealed better for me than the shield despite being thicker with my preferred carry method (IWB 3:00-4:30) because of its shorter grip. If you want to combine a short grip and thinness of a single stack, then the G43 fits that nicely or a kahr cm/pm 9, and those would be more suitable if you really like pocket carry, but as others have said you will have to try it to see if you like the trigger and how it shoots. While I ended up getting rid of my shield, I think it's an outstanding value at its price point
  18. Let us know how that upper works out, I've been looking at them and they seem to have decent prices but it's always good to hear reviews first!
  19. Nice, I like how the new ones have the frame mounted safety again.   Wish I could find them in 357 sig (weight would help tame that snap!)
  20. While lighter, shorter bullets like 55gr M193 out of a 1/12 twist barrel is fine, shooting heavier or longer rounds like M855 out of a 1/12 twist barrel is a bad idea...   Any spitzer type FMJ (basically any pointy modern rifle round) is going to tumble once it hits a person, no matter if you're using 1/14 all the way down to 1/7.   But what you don't want is it tumbling through the air!  1/12 is fine for 50-55gr but it won't won't stabilize M855 (much less longer and heavier 75 / 77 gr type OTM bullets) and beyond a certain point it's going to start tumbling through the air, reducing accuracy / opening up groups and keyholing targets.   If you're relying on fragmentation as a wounding mechanism, then you want to overcome the structural integrity of the jacket and round so that when it starts to tumble it comes apart.   ~2,700 +/- is the magic number for 55gr M193 and M855, but a faster twist like 1/9" and 1/7" can only help as long as you're above that velocity -- it puts significantly more stress on the round because of how quickly it's spinning, which will encourage fragmentation -- it's fast enough to stabilize the round in the air, but not nearly fast enough to stabilize it inside a much denser medium like a human, so it's still going to tumble. The problem in Afghanistan and Iraq is not the twist rate, it's the bullet they're using.  M855 / SS109 steel core wasn't designed to shoot through unarmored skinny guys, it was designed to defeat soviet helmets out to about 600 meters as part of the SAW program, the rifles followed suit to maintain ammunition standardization.   It will fragment past 2,700 FPS like the 55gr M193, but the issue is the penetration depth before the round starts to tumble and fragment.  With M193 it's consistent and will start to tumble and fragment very quickly, often within a few inches of penetration.   With M855, because of it's construction it's inconsistent (depending highly on the angle of the round as it strikes the target, so I guess the yawing through the air thing isn't SO bad in a sense if you're using green tip ;)  ).  Sometimes it works great, other times it penetrates further into the target before upset and may even pass through before it gets a chance to tumble and fragment, which yields poor results. In Afghanistan and Iraq 55gr M193 would have been a far superior round to use against the threats we're facing there, even with existing twist rates for the M4.  Or even better, the the heavier and longer 75/77 gr OTM bullets that will still fragment at lower velocities.
  21. I'm using a primary arms red dot with a 3x flip to side magnifier. I like it, though I kind of which the magnifier was a little more powerful. The red dot is for home defense distances and the magnifier is used for pretty much everything else. The dot does indeed get larger when using the magnifier, but so does everything else, so the relative sizes are the same. It's not a deal killer for me. I look forward to buying one of the newer ones with the longer battery life and smaller MOA dot. I did have a chance to play with a Burris Fullfield 1x-4x and I liked it, though it's in a different price category!
  22. lol now I have more to think about!
  23. My next project is an AR pistol ("PDW" type firearm in concept) which may be used for home defense in a pinch but will most likely spend it's life as a fun range toy.   .300 blackout is prohibitively expensive for me, even reloading (since I don't cast bullets) so I've decided to go for 5.56mm for now.   Of course velocity is important in 5.56 -- and unfortunately neither the 10.5" nor the 7.5" barrels will offer sufficient velocity for M193 to reliably fragment even at the muzzle from what I understand, much less M855.   Since I'm not limited to FMJ like the military, that's not a deal killer since commercial expanding ammunition should help -- Hornady 55gr Zmax apparently expands and still achieves good penetration (~19.5") in gel even out of the shorter 7.5" barrel.  I can still use the cheaper FMJ at the range.     So my question is more about usability.  An AR pistol is apparently pretty unpleasant to shoot, especially indoors, even with earpro.  So would it be better to get a 7.5" barrel with KX3 flaming pig to send the concussion downrange away from the shooter, or stick with the 10.5" barrel but with standard birdcage flashhider?  They both have about the same overall length, and I'm not wanting to go any longer than that -- I just don't know how much of a difference the KX3 would make.
  24. Read 3 posts down... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/55252-clarksville-tn-total-list/page-3 If these clarksville parks are indeed leased federal property what will that mean? Still good to carry or no?
  25. Manual safety is fine if that's what you like, just train with it often like anything else. It really is as cut and dry as that.
