Yeah, there are several instructionals out there for modding the original 22/45 to accept 1911 grips. So many, in fact, that Ruger apparently got the hint. I haven't done mine yet, but it's always been one of those "back burner, I'll get to it" projects. I prefer my MKII to the 22/45, though. Mac

This is my squirl-nihilator. I should say... WAS. Too bad I lost it in a boating accident... Mac

As stated in the comments on that page, looks like something anyone with access to Midway, Brownells, BCM, or Rainier could put together. In the article, I was waiting for them to say, "Gonna' be a game changer..." Mac

Used 686+. 7 rounds of .357 answers most unwarranted questions with authority. Mac Kinda' bummed I sold mine on this forum a couple years ago.

TS fluted. It's an X-Ring rifle, but the guy I got it from dumped the laminate stock and used a lightweight poly stock. I'll take a couple shots of it tonight and post them up, if you're interested. Mac ETA: I would have preferred the laminate stock... BUT, the whole rig is SUPER light weight.

I can't justify or even attempt to defend some of the actions of ALL the RO's a those places, but the one thing I CAN say is they have to deal with a ton of A$$hats and "Know-it-alls" mixed in with the average knowledgable shooter, just like the folks that work at gun shops. They can't weed the good from the bad after a cursory glance, so they have to assume most people are going to do wrong. Much better to play those odds then assume everyone will do right. Being too strict lowers the possibility of negligence. Being too lax gets someone hurt. Eventually, the shift in demeanor will happen to even the most patient and understanding person on the planet.I'd take the strict limiting of behaviour to the non-existant oversight and "free-for-all" attitude I've seen at a couple of the indoor ranges. That being said, I will not shoot at the state ranges. I'm lucky enough to access to land to shoot on, and I shoot at a couple of great indoor ranges that have "safety" as the top priority instead of how many people they can line up in a row for lane time. My girl carries an old frame Colt Mustang that is heavier than the 238 or the new Pocketlite, but it's a heck of a weapon and not big by any stretch. Pretty sure hers is steel, can't be sure, but it's definitely not the aluminum of the Pocketlite. Mac

FWIW, this is what I'm currently using... http://www.tacticalsol.com/tshome/x-ring-custom-22lr-receiver Mac

I had a membership at On Target for several years, let that expire, and doubt I'll go back. Range is decent enough, just not happy with the people. YMMV. Gun City is a DEATH TRAP! I'm currently a member at Guns and Leather, typically shoot at Hendo, but I'm not shy about visiting Daniel and Nick up in Greenbriar either. Great range, great people, but yes, on the weekends, Greenbriar is a "little busy" Recently, I also shoot at "The Gun Room" in Lebanon. Fantastic people, awesome range, small but very nice shop. I sort of have a dog in that fight, so I will have to claim some bias here... For a gunsmith, I like Jeff at G&L and Tim Calhoun in Kingston Springs. I need to get out to Charlie's place. OT was the only indoor range that would let me shoot my AR's, but with the comps, NO ONE enjoyed it. Mac

Yeah, OS, you're right. I just meant the typical synthetic. Forgot that the "boat paddle" design was the hollowed out one from a while ago.Mac

FWIW, I've given up on finding a decent priced 10/22 action. There seems to be only two ways to go: 1. buy a new 10/22 base model and strip it out 2. buy a custom action and pay a ton I'm opting for option 1. I keep my eyes open in the classifieds all the time, but as soon as I finish my current AR build, I'll probably just hit Wal-Mart or Academy and pick up the base model with the boat paddle synthetic stock. Plus, I'll have all the parts necessary to repair/replace/build another should that ever be necessary. Worst case scenario, I can sell the factory parts to offset the cost of the build. Mac

Rem 700 in 308 and just enough scope to hit the $1k mark. Of course, by the time I got done tinkering with it, it would cost me an additional $2k out of my pocket, but thanks for the $1k kickstart! Mac

I've been very happy with everything I've gotten from those guys. Would be VERY surprised if this came in and failed to impress. Mac

3 Gun Nation Pro/Am at Rockcastle starts friday

Had a blast at the match Saturday. Man, I wish my shotgun had been done in time, I would have loved to man up. I'll be there next year though, assuming I'm one of the lucky ones that can get registered in the 45 second availability window! My girlfriend hit the tannerite on Saturday with the PKB and almost wet herself! She started to get up and dance around when we had to remind her she still had ammo left on the belt and there was another target! Missed LaRue being there, but the guys doing the food still had good prices and there was always plenty to go around. Mac -
Had a 2206 in my hand at a shop several years ago, still kicking myself for not picking it up. Nice collection! Mac

Doesn't YHM also throw in Spectre length to change the equation? Something like Mid-length +? Regardless... here is what they have on Midway: Handguard Lengths: Pistol Handguard-4.15" Carbine Handguard-7.2" Mid-Length Handguard-9.2" Specter/Extended Carbine Handguard-9.7" Rifle Length-12.5" Mac EDIT: vendor non-specific rules of thumb are basically carbine=7", mid-length=9", rifle=12"

At last count, I have just over 18,000 rounds through my Glock 34 with factory barrel and have never had a single issue... okay, except a squib, but not what you were asking about. The kaboom stories that the interwebz are speckled with are typically 40's. On the older barrels, you could drop a round in and see at the top of the ramp a small section of the case that was not supported because the ramp was cut deeper into the chamber area. This issue has been somewhat remediated in newer barrels, but not completely removed from the realm of possibility. I've personally seen the effects of the kaboom, but 1)it was with an older G22 and 2)I could not vouch for the quality of ammunition used as it was neither my gun nor my ammunition. The only bulge removing dies I've seen are for 40. There could be other calibers, just none I've ever had a need to look for. I personally use the GRx die to remove the bulge from range pick up 40 because my 40's are very tight chambered STI's and you can definitely tell when a case is out of spec. In my opinion, you should be just fine with a G19 or G30 using either factory ammo or well built reloads. If you are going to shoot lead cast, then definitely get a LW or SL drop in. Just to be on the safe side. Mac

I will be there with a group from work. I had a blast last year, and know this year will be just as fun! One day, I will step up and compete, but until that time, just rubbing elbows with the big dogs is a hoot. Have a video somewhere of the post shoot with Jerry and Benny. Mac -
I had the "asshat" that made up for all of you missing out! Random question (one of many) thrown out there, "What if someone tries to jump on you when you up in the club?" I rest my case... Mac ETA: Just to stay OT, the G&L class was great. Mark covered the state mandatory materials but also took the time to explain some of the real world aspects. He also used a bit of humour to keep everyone from sacking out... Can't imagine a better value out there to meet the VERY BASIC state requirements.

Hmmm, I'd like to say interesting, but seems a little slow on the uptake. Never been a fan of side folders anyway, but I'm sure someone will buy it. SLIGHTLY bigger brief case, and you could just put an SBR'd AR in there. Pull out the halves, pop the pins in, and get in the fight... if you're into the "briefcase tactical gunfight" crowd. Mac

I've had a few dealings with people on this site, and will say, every one has been top shelf. When I'm selling something, I'll do my research, find a good price to list it, even cut that a bit to avoid the haggling. When I'm buying, if you've listed it with a reasonable price, I'll buy it. If the price is higher than what I want to pay, then I simply don't need it and won't waste your time or mine dickering. If it's something that I desperately need, well then you got me by the tight and curlies, and I'll pay what I have to pay. Mac

My STI .40's (custom 2011 and Trojan 1911) are setup for long loaded ammo. Actually, so long that the rounds don't fit in a Glock magazine. That is the only reason I shoot a 34 in production instead of a 35... well, that and my .40 load is major. I didn't want to develop a .40 minor load just for one weapon, and I already had a great 9MM recipe. Mac

or man up and complete the set... 18!Mac FWIW, I don't hate anybody, but I completely turn off my brain when someone starts up the "XXXX brand is the best (or worst) whatever." I'm glad they have a favourite, just don't try to convert me to your side. I spent a metric spit-ton of my own money and time figuring out what is best for me. If you ask me, I'll tell you my experience, but I'll never tell you what to buy. That's your responsibility. ETA: The above post contains a startling level of irony and hypocrisy!
