  1. Jails don't work. Most gangs (black, aryan, hispanic, etc.) recruit from/inside jails. Scare tactics don't work because they know there are only two options... jail and death. (Let's pretend that being an honest decent citizen doesn't exist as an option for them because, you know, they are "products of their environment") With those as their options, they might as well do as they damn well please, because one of those will happen to them before they are 20 years old. As far as they are all concerned, Tony Montana had it all. Mac
  2. Use the 2k to put a downpayment on a Feinwerkbau. Mac
  3. If your looking for one weapon for both skeet and HD, check out the Mossberg 930. Turkey models are 24" VR barrel with different choke tubes available. I have a 935 Magnum, and I don't recommend shooting it for fun... cause it's NOT fun. Mac
  4. 5" group, 30 feet, rapid fire.... can it be done? Sure. Can I do it? Doubtful. Have I ever shot an LCP? No. Fact of the matter is, anyone can become very proficient with any platform if they practice correctly and frequently. That being said, I'd still offer a bet to your buddy and make him produce when it counts. Money on the line always seems to make the wind blow harder, light shine brighter, ammo become less reliable, etc. Seems like someone once recommended a way to test your abilities in a "high-stress" situation. I think it was facing uprange, run in place for 60 seconds, immediately turn, draw, and fire a 5 shot group in 10 seconds. Sounds like a long time, but when your heart is beating, you're trying to find your target, and get those sights lined up, 10 seconds goes by with the quickness. I tried something like this with my 26, I did MOBg (Minute of Bad guy) and walked away happy. Admittedly, my "pattern" looked like a Jackson Pollack painting, but they would have all bled. Mac
  5. Lol, Concealed Carry Puppy. 1.5lb Yorkie in my girl's bag. Mac
  6. Drover up from Manchester to check it out. One stripped lower in the whole place. Really disappointing. However, my fiance and her dad both got to fondle weapons side by side to decide what they want to carry. And, my puppy got to make lots of new friends. Mac
  7. I reload because in 2008, I shot 23,000 rounds. In 2009, I shot 19,000 rounds. Those numbers severely declined in 2010 and 2011, but hopefully, this season, I'll get back on the horse. Initially, I started reloading purely for the cost factor. Then, I realized I could customize the loads to individual weapons instead of tweaking the weapon to optimize factory loads. As far as the "in case things get scarce" arguement, look back over the threads in late '08-most of '09. Things got VERY scarce. Unless you were sitting on a metric ****-ton of components (primers, mainly) your equipment got all dusty and lonely like mine did. That's when I realized the guys that buy 20k-50k worth of primers and 20lbs of powder at a time might be on to something. Mac
  8. This is the crux of the entire "Kwik/Lenny" saga for me. Personally, I couldn't care less about the guy. Live or die, he's just a guy I don't know and in all likelihood will never meet. However, his escapades have the potential to put law enforcement officers and/or innocent bystanders into unnecessary jeopardy. All for the sake of (in his eyes) making a statement or pushing an envelope, or (in a rational, mildly intelligent person's eyes) playing games with authorities in order to garner attention. Not for nothing, but this will NOT be a zero sum game. Mac
  9. Oh, he was in no way serious. There were roughly 40 people in our class, and 9 of those were a group of us from my office. They were pumping people through as fast as they could, but there were definitely some people there that needed a little "extra" attention.Mac

    RECOIL WOW!

But, but, but... the practical applications are nearly endless!!! Mac
  11. XD-9Tac. Shots at 3, 7, 15 yards. Mark (Instructor) saw my target, and asked that I aim at a different spot so he could count the rounds, then laughed and walked on. So, I went with headshots for the last series, and yes, that's six rounds, not three. If "I" can pass, anyone can pass. I loaned my CZ SP01 and Beretta 92 to buddies from work that took the class with me. Most everyone else shot the Ruger 22/45 supplied by the range, except one of my other buddies that went with us took his Mosquito. 3 shots, jam. 4 shots, jam. 1 shot, jam. Everybody in the class almost gave up on him.
  12. Zero 125gn JHP, 4.1 VV N320, CCI 500 primer, Range pickup brass. OAL 1.144" Tested reliable and comfortable in a Glock 34, CZ SP01, Beretta 92, XD9 Tac, Glock 26, and Colt Defender. Mac
  13. I have a Colt Defender and, up until last week, a Kimber Ultra Carry. Both are 3" guns, very compact, but even with my chunky hands, easy to grip and control. I highly recommend any of the 3" or 3.5" 1911, just take time to break them in. While I didn't experience any issues, the baby frames are notorious for being badly behaved right out of the box. Mac

  15. STI Spartan for under $700. STI Trojan for under $1000. STI Tactical or Edge for hi-cap ~$1500 range. The Outpost in Murfreesboro and Guns and Leather in Greenbriar seem to have the widest selection available for fondling different manufacturers. Mac
  16. Fact is, most mainstream manufacturers have 1911's in your price range. They will all have fans and detractors alike. You're only going to know what you like by shooting them. To add my opinion... with $1000, I'd buy an RIA and 1000 rounds of ammo. Shoot it until my thumb bled from reloading the mag. Then I'd have an idea of what I might like to change, (grips, sights, springs, trigger, etc.) and I'd still have the money to do so. If I didn't want to change anything, I'd buy a couple more mags and another 1000 rounds of ammo. Mac
  17. Only recommendation I can add is make sure you are both looking for "your own" weapons. What works for you may not work for her, and vice versa. Shop together and shop separate. Don't just buy two of something because you both need one. The chances are pretty high that one of you will not be happy in the long run. Find a shop and salesperson you are both comfortable with and fondle the crap out of everything in the case. If possible, shoot everything that interests you both before you lay out any money. Once you both start leaning towards something, put out a call for help here on the forums. Chances are, someone here has that very same piece, and might be willing to meet you and spend some range time working with it to see if it might be what you're hoping for. Best of luck with your search, and this forum is an awesome knowledge base to start from. Mac
  18. The problem with a Nutnfancy vs. Tex Grebner Celebrity Deathmatch is that it would take too long for one of them to succumb to self-inflicted wounds. Mac EDIT: Well, also add in the fact that Tex isn't allowed in his step-dad Craig's gun safe anymore after the "incident."
  19. Looks like a long-barrel zip gun. I just can't figure out what size nail they used for the firing pin and where they hid the rubber band. Mac
  20. Personally, I'd go with the 3.5lb Henry AR-7 or 3.25lb Marlin Papoose if i needed a take-down .22. I'd carry the extra weight just to get away from that uncovered trigger. Oh, and the Henry and Marlin are both in the $250 range. Just my thoughts, your mileage may vary. Mac
  21. Since no one seems to be very original with their recommendations, I won't be either, and I'll say STI Trojan. Mac
  22. I have a Walther P22, SW 317, Volquartzen Ruger MKII, Ruger 22/45, and Beretta 89 Standard. The Walther and 317 are great for plinking, but lack hi-level accuracy. The Mark II's are a blast to shoot in customized form or factory and give great accuracy out of the box. The Beretta will shoot another bullet through any of the holes I made with any of the other pistols. However, the price for each of those was commensurate with what they are. The Walther was sub $300 all the way up to the Beretta which was $800+. Pardini's, Hammeli's, and the Walther SP22 will start around $900+ and go up from there. It just depends on what level you want to go. Mac
  23. G34 - FO front site, Wesselman Grip Tape, Stainless non-captive guide rod, Glocktriggers Challenger Kit, blacked out factory adjustable rear site, titanium skeletonized striker, 13# recoil spring G26 - Front Night Site, Pearce +0 Finger extensions, G34 Slide Stop I like having the same manual-of-arms for my comp gun and carry weapon, but I don't ever mess with the internals on my carry pieces. Mac
  24. I shoot Glocks. What is this "cleaning and oiling" you're referring to? Mac
  25. Historically, I go through about 20k Zero's per year. (This year has been on the low side.) It's the only bullet I use. In 9MM, I use the 124JHP's and 125JHP's. In 40, I use the 180JHP's. 230JHP's in 45. They can sometimes be hard to source, so when you get the chance to get some, buy A LOT. Mac
