Yup, NDS is making the Brownells upper and lowers.   I can't figure out why Brownells went with black annodizing and not the excellent Colt XM Gray that Nodak Spud offers!

Get some training.   Seriously, if you have never shot an AR based firearm now is the perfect time for some instruction.  This will keep you from developing any bad techniques or procedures.   Besides, learning to Run-The-Gun is a real "blast."   :cool:

Sidecarist has given some very good insight on how to flatten the shaft and countersink the hole - - - the most important advice being Go SLOW! But, before cutting into any metal...., I would give a different holster a try. You state that you had a problem getting the holster's button to latch. Appears to me that the holster that you are using places pressure in a couple of areas that might have an impact on the issue that you had.

Without any pictures I'm just taking a wild-ass guess here.......   Is it possible that the thumb break area of the holster had enough pressure on the right side to push the tip of the thumb safety shaft toward the inside of the frame?  That could have moved the safety out away from the frame on the left side just enough to allow the plunger and its spring to "depart."  Would also need to know if you were carrying in condition 1 (cocked & locked).    I have seen tight fitting holsters press the slide release in this matter..., that is why many 1911 gunsmiths will countersink the right side frame holes and bob the end of the shafts.

Damn It Guys! All of this talk of 9mm ARs got me so fired up I'm going to build another spare upper using the Kaw Valley Precision 8.5" Barrel. :drool:

Ohhhhhh....., Yeaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! They Run Just Fine! :cool: Fortunate to have a few ARs in 9mm. The SBRs (5.5 and 10.5 inch) are a blast to shoot. They remind me of the old carnival BB guns they shoot so fast and point so quick. I also have one with a 16 inch barrel. That length is overkill as far as ballistics go, but one of the odd affects is that the rifle isn't as loud because of the long barrel sending all of the noise down range. I was running it at a steel match in Dickson and Hognut was having to hold the shot timer right next to the upper to pick up the shots. When shooting paper out at 50 yards, you can hear the bullets smacking the targets. I do run dedicated 9mm lowers and have found that the cheaper ASC Colt pattern mags work just fine. Like what R1100R has posted, Glock based 9mm ARs seem to have some issues at times, the biggest being the lack of dependable last shot bolt hold open . Another nice thing about Blow-Back 9mm ARs is that they will shoot just about any ammo you feed them. Brass, Steel, Aluminum case - - - They don't care just so long as you have the correct 9mm Heavy Buffer in them. Too Bad 173rdABN is locked down attending the Police Academy right now otherwise he would be posting his love of MP5s. Of course his MP5s have the "Happy Switch!" :dirty:

Not often you get such decent conditions for a winter time match.  Good to see a good turnout of folks.    I still recall the 'Ice Qualifier" that Robert ran a couple of Januarys ago - - - 8 DEGREES!!!!!     :dropjaw:
