  1. I am not saying to have a different CoF. What we wanted was no points down for LEO/Military shooting as we are trained. Their score would be listed as LEO/Military and not counted against the other shooters. BTW - At the time of this discussion (debate) with HQ I was one of the IDPA Regional Directors. So I had a vested interest as both a shooter and a military trainer. IDPA loss a chance to get in offically with the Army. We very nearly adopted the IDPA classifier. Would had been good for everybody. But its all a Moot point now.
  2. "Joined the Church of Browning today... " Getting back on topic - - - Here is a pic of my once daily carry gun by J.M. Browning. A Hi Power with the Novak FBI HRT Carry package. Yup, those are indeed early Craig Spegel grips.
  3. No advantage since there is already a LEO/Military category and we just wanted the option for professionals to fire a COA as they are trained.
  4. Welcome to Tennessee! +1 about Sam. Sam builds a lot of Uselton's custom 1911s. He is in Gallatin.
  5. Yup, its a bad idea. The "Serve Everybody Once" training method came about a few years back. It was somebody's latest & greatest Ninja idea and it got writen into the rules book. Those of us who had been in real fights said - WHAT????? We're trying to get IDPA to at least allow LEO & Military the option NOT to do the 1-1-2-1-1 since its something that our training doesn't support. BTW, Shooting the BGs to slide lock still appears to be a worthy method. We also think that limited vickers on any stage isn't good. If somebody wants to shoot half a mag at each target - let them. Only good hits count in IDPA and let them add the time for as many shots as they want so long as the shooter is using good tactics and not doing any "Failure To Do Right." Maybe we can get Bill Wilson into the ammo business and he'll support that idea.
  6. Bill Jordon - Now that is a LAWMAN!
  7. Many of us are telling IDPA HQ that Recent Combat is showing the 1-1-2-1-1 doesn't work. Too much indexing of the gun, better to two-tap quick and move to the next target. Of course "somebody" at IDPA isn't going along with that since it doesn't support "his" training method. BTW - That somebody has never been shot at either. Jeff Cooper had it right with the "Double-Hammer" all along.
  8. All Hail the P&R Smith & Wessons!
  9. A deflector was added to the AR family in the 70s. It keeps the brass away from left hand shooters. Also, now that we train using both left & right shooting for CQB, everybody needs it.
  10. Todd, Nice looking battle rifle. From the pictures it appears to be a representative example of a late war M1. It does have the early type forged trigger guard which was replaced by a stamped steel type sometime in the spring of 1944. Its equipped with the post war T105E1 rear sight assembly as were most M1 as they went thru depot work. The stock has the post 1953 "winged eagle" acceptance cartouche which could be overstamped on the earlier ordnance cartouche. Look at the barrel, bolt, operating rod, trigger group, etc., etc. for manufacturer's initials such as SA, WRA, HR, IH. All in all, I think you got a good one!
  11. Unless its a request to demonstrate "M1 Thumb!"
  12. Check to make sure that your extractor shaft has not become loose (unscrew). That is a common problem that will cause the cylinder to stick and be hard to open.
  13. Todd, What do you need to know. I am a M1 Collector & a medal winner at the Camp Perry Garand Match.
  14. MTS, Most local clubs won't have a problem with anybody showing up for the first time to give IDPA a try regardless of their firearm. Just don't show up with a Race Gun & Rig wearing a factory sponsorship shirt . That can be a big FTDR - "Failure To Do Right."
  15. I'm a IDPA SO & MD....., so my ruling is "It all depends......" The Extended Mag release button & Magwell would be allowed so long as they are not beyond the stated "increase in size" that is greater than the OEM part. AND it fits inside the "box." Rule of thumb. If the mag release is of a paddle type its a No-Go. If the magwell is a full & flared type its a No-Go. Bottomline - - - Ask yourself if its something you could carry conceal.
  16. SIERRA HOTEL!!!!!!! Joe, you got my business! I'll be in your AOR within the next couple of weeks. I'll call ahead of time to discuss. Army Strong!
  17. Hey Joe, Any idea if S&W is going to give their LEO discount to Active Military like Glock and SIG does? Its hard for a troop to pass up a Glock for $398.
  18. I'm issued a Colt M4 - - - There are many like it, but this one is mine....., but actually its my Uncle Sam's! I do own a Colt for Service Rifle matches. It was built by Frank White of Compass Lake.
  19. Any blued N Frame S&W without the lock.
  20. Or get his wife to lobby for the NRA!

Great Review! Where in Chattanooga did you get your PF9 for $269.00? Thanks,
  23. Well, since I'll be seeing the AG later this week, reckon I'll need to let him know that.
  24. Just my 2 cents worth. I have found Kel Tec products to be a good choice......, after they have been on the market a while. Seems to me that everytime they produce something new the Beta Testing is done by the first couple thousand buyers who ship the weapon back for repairs. Kel Tec, after seeing what is wrong and developing a fix, will then produce a product improvement to the production line and the weapon is then a good buy. Again, just my opinion and your mileage will vary.......
  25. Yes, but only because I talked directly with the AG at the time he issued the opinion. The copy I have of his opinion was FAX to me from his office. This opinion carries a bit more weight because it was a reply to a state congressional question. And Yes Tennessee is different than Texas on a number of courts (to include that our UT won this weekend and their UT didn't ). Bottom Line is that if you open carry expect to draw attention (LEOs, Public) because they don't all read AG opinions. And expect attention from the Bad Guys who are sizing up their targets.
