  1. poak, You desire to serve is great. We need everyone of you who understand that there are some things bigger than just ourselves. Its not always a great living...., but it sure is a great life! Good Luck,
  2. For once the ATF has made me happy by posting IN RED that...... "...... Firearms automatically attain curio or relic (C&R) status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm. It is not necessary for such firearms to be listed in ATF’s C&R list....." The "list" is meant for "curio" firearms less than 50 years old - - - An example would be Pre 64 Winchesters. Anything 50 years or older (other than NFA arms) is a "relic" and can be had with a C&R FFL. So the next time a dealer tells you that a firearm has to be on the "list" point them to the RED statement on the ATF website.
  3. I HAVE to Tag this thread! Thanks Verne.
  4. Maybe we can get Joe to extend that offer to Military & LEOs!
  5. I have a couple of family members who are Wilson County Deputies. I trust that polite deputy was named "Barry" or "Don." They are getting calls all of the time from "move-ins" who have never lived outside of a large city. These folks just can't understand that good ole' country boys are allowed to shoot on their land. One of my cousins told me that they had one woman who called and said that there was "a war" going on somewhere near her - - - It was Opening Day of Dove Season!
  6. And this is why I am no longer one of the IDPA regional match guys. The 1-1-2-1-1 deal was written into the rule book over the objection of several of us reviewing the rules update. It was (and still is) one of the then board members latest & greatest "tac-cool" training method and this helped his school. A training method that has NO factual base in any known real-world gunfight. Those of us with real-life experience and/or the data could find NO single fight (cop, civilian, military) where this "everybody gets served once" method has been used. In a fight, people tend to shoot until the threat goes away. To think that you will be able to shoot once and pull yourself off that target to the next target without knowing if the threat is gone from the first target is folly. Shooting single shots at single plates at the Steel Challenge for speed is one thing, shooting BGs who can return fire is a different matter. Hangout with an SF team during contact - - - talk about firing until the threat is gone, no wonder their M4A1s have a heavier barrel. When we argued againist this tactical sequence in favor of the tried & trued "Cooper's Hammer" the reply was that us old-school guys just didn't understand the new and improved way of training. Maybe so but when I attended the American Pistol Institute, the Modern Technique was taught by guys who had seen the elephant. I trust the training they gave me over somebody's theory. Sorry for the flame....., I'm still pissed about this!
  7. Tactics dictate how a stage should be shot in IDPA. Yea, I have seen poor IDPA stages where you are told how to shoot it. That is somebody being lazy. A good stage design will give the shooter a problem to fix while using TTPs of a gunfight. If a stage can be fired with a low round count...., shoot it again strong or weak hand to give the shooter another run and a different condition to overcome. If anything, I wish we could come up with a way in IDPA to slow everybody down. I'm one of those who think a stage should be as near to "would you do that for real" as it can. Myself - - - I can't shoot USPSA. Trying to "gun & run" without regard to sound TTPs goes against all of my training and combat experience. But most important of all, both are just games. Its not training, but it can support your training.
  8. Oh Hell...., let me be the first - - - YEAGER!!!!!!!! http://yeagerisscum.tripod.com/

    Dang gunshop!

OK - You have my attention. Are you talking about a Smith & Wesson Model 27-1 in .357 Mag with a 5" barrel? Is so - - - You have a S&W that isn't seen that often.
  10. For a year I worked for GEN Shinseki. He is the most brilliant individual I have ever known. Also one of the most ethical.
  11. Agree about the HRA. Mine is in the 5.7mil SN range and is a beauty! 100% HRA. I won silver with it at the Camp Perry Garand match in 2000. The rifle did its part..., if I had doped the wind better I would have won gold. My IHC on the other hand is Rough, Rough, Rough - - - as from the manufacturer. IHC just didn't finish these rifles very well. Its also not my best Garand shooter, but that is because of throat erosion and a muzzle gauge of 3.0+. But I needed an IHC to finish out my collection and IHCs just don't pop up that often.

    Del-Ton is very busy

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE!!!!! The very next day after I sent the heavy barrel back I had the correct LW barrel at my house! One Day & the correct barrel was in my hands. I reckon Del-Ton shipped the exchange as soon as they knew that I had sent the other one back using their UPS return tag. Folks that is first class service. Going the extra mile by fixing something ASAP is the sign of a good company.
  13. 31 out of 33 correctly — 93.94 % Good to know that all those grad schools the Army has sent me to wasn't a waste of the taxpayer's money!

    Del-Ton is very busy

Reading the election polls in late Oct, I got my panic buying in before the big wave. I ordered a lightweight barrel for a retro XM177E2 build...., and they sent a heavy/mid weight by mistake. It was the first problem I have ever had with DTI. They did send me a return tag for exchange quicky. I also ordered a lower with the RRA two-stage trigger, it arrived just ten days after I placed the order.
  15. I re-watched some of it last night. I forgot how well they did the night firefight at the bridge. The only hollywood deal I noted was the muzzle flash on the M4/M16s were at bit on the bright side - - - I'm sure for film affect. Otherwise, the sound of the M2s & Mk19s were right on as well as the tracers.
  16. Add to the list.... The Wild Bunch (SSAs, 1911s, 1903s, M93s, M98s) Jeremiah Johnson (Hawken 50cal) The Rough Riders (Krags, M93s) Apocalypse Now (GUNSHIPS!!!!!) True Grit (worth it just to hear John Wayne say, "Fill Your Hands, You SOB!") The Shootist (Duke's final gunfight) The Quick and the Dead (Sharon Stone before she became anti-gun) Open Range (Charley Waite (Costner) explaining to Boss Spearman (Duvall) the shooter's mindset before the big gunfight) Saving Private Ryan (They got the sounds right) Heat (Good movement TTPs during the street shootout) Flight of the Intruder (Folks, that is how tracers look coming at you) And..... Blackhawk Down (Because those were my friends - In fact I still work with two of them)
  17. "Last of the Mohicans" There is a GREAT line where, before taking a shot, Hawkeye asks Cora Munro for a piece of her slip to use as a patch because "Satin gives me 50 more yards...." Hawkeye knew the ballistics of his weapon!
  18. David, So sorry to hear about your lost...., but thanks for letting us know. We can all be stronger together.
  19. Funny - - - But it somehow seems that ALL of my firearms are more accurate than me! Reckon that is a good problem.
  20. Joe, I'm sure you will also enjoy this one with a 3.5 inch barrel.
  21. Here is one out of my S&W .357 Mag collection. Its a 27-2 with a 5" barrel. Great balance, one of my favorite shooters. Joe, I need to bring you over to the old-school world of P&R Smith & Wessons!
  22. If VLTOR does bring that handgun to market for under $1k as stated in their blog - - - then I'll have to have one in 10mm.
  23. The way MTSU is getting - - - EVERYBODY needs to carry!
