  1. Here is where the confusion comes from. ATF's website has a Q&A section where the following is stated: "Firearms automatically attain C&R status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm." ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions But that is not what ATF Pub 5300.11 states. It states that all firearms become C&R at 50 years (page 2). And that "original configuration" only applies to imported military firearms (page 10). http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-11.pdf Go with the published regulations. The website Q&A is just a quick answer that is a summary of the regulations found in ATF Pub 5300.11
  2. Joe, Are you planning a NVD for that forward rail? BTW - - - You look much younger in the pic holding that rifle.

From the CMP Forum. "..... The CMP has been successful in acquiring another large quantity of HXP .30-06 ammo. We expect delivery in Jan 2010 and should have the ammo ready for sale by Feb or Mar. Until we actually receive and inspect the ammo, we will not know what packaging configurations will be available, but expect them to be the same as we have had for the past few years. We do not yet know what our final cost will be. We do know that the quantity is large enough to satisfy our customer needs for several years. We will not accept any pre-orders or establish a waiting list. Thanks for your support and patience....." .30-06 ammo update - 19 Nov 09 - CMP Forums
  5. What deal is that for "military/police types?"
  6. IDPA matches always welcomes new shooters. You don't have to be a GGC member to shoot a IDPA match. In fact any type of posted match at GGC are open to visiting shooters (trap, service rifle, etc., etc.). The club itself has a limit on the number of members that are allowed. The land that the range sits on is Federal property controlled by TVA. The TVA limits the total membership of the club since the area is controlled entry. That is why membership is closed.
  7. Then just come on out. New Shooters are always welcome at the GGC. You'll find IDPA to be the most low-key and easy-going group of folks that you could ever hope to shoot with. And we'll keep you safe. I'll be that dashing, good-looking, high-speed/low-drag, final hope & prayer of a nation, old tac-cool tough guy, retired war-weary vet..., who is still shooting a Beretta and 870 Pump.

  9. Don't forget that if you used surplus ammo to treat it as corrosive. Usually the primer is the culprit, when fired it coats the inside of the firearm with corrosive salt residue. When the salts combine with moisture, damage starts to occur like the rust you saw. Oils or petroleum based products will not break down the corrosive salts and therefore are ineffective in cleaning or neutralizing the salt compounds found in corrosive ammo. Simple fix is to use a mix of dashwasher soap and water or just plain water to break down the corrosive salts. First clean the bore and bolt with this mix, then run a few patches to dry everything up and then finish with your favorite cleaner and light coat of oil.
  10. BULL ! I know the training that took place at McCoy during that timeframe and it didn't require anybody firing thousands of rounds a day. Getting back on topic - - - I also recommend Bill Springfield's work. Quick & a great price.
  11. RWF, All good points. I too have seen Rems with the same problems. For me they have always worked. Heck even the old Model 48s & 58s will run for me. Don't know why. But I agree that the Benelli M1S90 or M2S90 are the class of the field right now.

    Browning BDM

I had one for a couple of years back in the mid 90s. Never had any problems with it. It points naturally and is a soft shooter. Its flat and even with its all-steel frame its light and easy-to-conceal. Its does have an odd safety. It's an ambidextrous decocker/safety unit that has a big lever that is impossible to miss. But you flip it down for safe and up for fire. That is completely opposite the 1911 & BHP and most every other semi-auto . I never could get use to that.
  19. If you need any 101st Patches, let me know. I have a few and the Screaming Eagle faces forward on either the left or the right sleeve (if you know what I mean)! Have a safe trip back to the land of the Big PX! ROK Alumni 84-85 95-96
