  1. Standard Colt short trigger of that time period. Its a early lightweight. KCC - - - Any pics before the coating?
  2. Small Hands. With a thumbs forward/high grip/riding the thumb safety, I sometimes don't disengage the grip safety on a 1911. The short trigger helps, I have then on all of my 1911s other than my Gold Cup. Also, Chad spent alot of time with me fitting the GS to ensure 100% function. I would practice my drawn stoke and then Chad would take the firearm apart, give it a couple of light passes with a stone/file and then I would make another drawn. After a couple of those test fits and Chad's final finishing work, I haven't had any problems with the GS. I think that extra work with the shooter is a good example of a true custom build.
  3. Hey Gang, Here is the link to the Gunsmithing thread. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/gunsmithing-troubleshooting/55690-kandros-customs-gunworks-38-super.html#post712204 Enjoy!
  4. Here is the Novak Super Wide Rear Sight with its .170 notch. Works great for those of us with "seasoned" and "experienced" (OK, OK - Over 40) eyesight.
  5. Before. After. Even while keeping all of the Series 80 safety stuff to keep it IDPA legal, Chad's action job delivered the 3.75 pound trigger that all of my 1911s have.
  6. Before. After. You can see the touchup blue where Chad has done some melting of the rear of the Thumb Safety
  7. In an earlier thread in the handguns forum I posted some pics of my Colt Govt Enhanced Model 1911 in 38 Super. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/55433-lucky-colt-38-super.html Chad Kandros is the gunsmith who will be bringing this 1911 along. Nashville Gunsmith, Hendersonville Gunsmith - Kandros Custom Gunworks I have learned over the years that its best for me to have the work performed in stages. I like to "fine-tune" my custom builds as I go in order to make sure that what I wanted is really what I wanted - - - Some gunsmiths might call that "changing-his-mind" but it keeps us from getting into unnecessary fretting over trying to select a complete package all at once that could lead to alot of undo and redo of work. So..., Please keep in mind that you're going to see a work-in-progress with some "touch-up" blue & unfinished metalwork. I plan to post to this thread as we go in order to have a running update on the progress of Chad's work on this 1911. I trust folks will find this interesting. So...., Here is the 1911 as seen in the online auction. And now after the first stage of Chad's work. Smith & Alexander - Grip Safety, Ed Brown - Wide Extended Thumb Safety - Cocobolo Grips - Allen Head Screws, Harrison Design - Short Trigger, Wilson Combat - Extended Mag Release, Novak - Super Wide Notch Rear Sight.
  8. +1 Best place to go for those who have "More Guns than they Need..., But Not as many as they Want." In other words, more guns than any safe could ever hold.
  9. R1100R, You being a 10mm fan, I'm sure you'll be in interested in knowing that Chad is also doing a bit of "Nip & Tuck" on my Colt Delta Elite.
  10. Even better. The seller agreed to drop his shipping charge when I suggested that he could keep his "Custom Pink Pearlite Grips" (his ad copy) in exchange for free shipping. Told him that I would take the lost over the grips and that he could just install the Colt rubbers and ship it that way. Truth was I feared that my transfer FFL would laugh me out of his shop had the seen those pearl handle grips. Besides, those grips really didn't go with the Gold Inlaid & Gold grip screws.
  11. Lucky that I saved it from staying in this world as a Pimp Gun! Before. As Delivered. As of Today (ongoing upgrades). Chad Kandros (Kandros Customs Gunworks) is the gunsmith for this 1911. He has been studying and working with Sam Hoster for the past few years. Chad has graciously agreed to take on this project as I tend to bring on my custom jobs along in phases. For now its the basic grip safety, thumb safety, and rear sight work. I like to do it that way so I can run the gun hard and make sure that we're going in the right direction. Once we get to its final working configuration - - - Chad will have the opportunity to perform some of his tasteful "artwork" to this example of JMB's masterpiece. I will be starting a new thread on the gunsmithing section of the forum that will give the details and track the progress of this 1911.
  12. LngRngShtr, A Herter .401 Powermag revolver! You have taken term Cult Cartridge to another level.
  13. Thanks, It has its wear & tear from alot of "walk-abouts" but its still one of my favorites.
  14. Ronnie Morris does all the work on my Garands and M14s. He has all of the correct Garand tools (very important) and works out of a small shop behind his house. Give him a call, and by all means let him do his action job on your trigger while he has your Garand.
  15. Maybe I lucked out, mine is still working well on my 3-Gun AR now going into its third summer of shooting. Here is a great discussion of the DMS-1. Millet DMS-1 1-4x24 scope ? - M4Carbine.net Forums I really like the DMS-1's donut-dot reticle, its easy to pick up in quick and fast stages. I have mine mounted in an American Defense Recon Quick-Release Extended Scope Mount. I also added a R&R Racing Power Throw Lever that allows me to make speedy adjustments in magnification. And yup, I now have more invested in those two accessories than the cost of the scope. Its no S&B Short Dot or US Optics SN-4, but for the money it gets the job done. Would I picked the DMS-1 over the S&B or SN-4 if going back into the fight - - - Well no, but then again Uncle Sam would have to recall me from the retired rolls and he had better let me play with the latest tac-cool stuff again. Here is a pic of my daughter after shooting a COF with the DMS-1.
  16. Ken, Just wait till we start the .38 Super & 10mm threads!
  17. They can be a sub MOA rifle with all of the National Match mods, Match Ammo and a good Garand gunsmith. 3.25 inch is a good-enough MOC (Minute of Chest) using issue M2 ball ammo. And as said, make sure that you are using ammo loaded to M2 spec. Some commerical ammo meant for bolt rifles can bend the op rod on the Garand.
  18. Outstanding advice. Sometimes the best training you get from some outfits is what doesn't work for you. My only comment in regard to Front Sight is that I can't support the company because of the way they market their courses. Front Sight once used the ondash video of a police officer being shot to death with their voice over of "Stop Screaming and Start Shooting." Imagine the pain that Officer's family felt having Front Sight use that video to promote their business. Maybe their training is first rate, but JMHO...., that Ad was very Low Class.
  19. What a nice day to be at the range...., other than my sorry-ass shooting. Hey, who was that wearing the red TGO hat? I was SOing the new shooters squad and didn't get a chance for an intro. BTW - - - Great stages Robert.
  20. Yup...., They're the Model 10 on steroids!
  21. Ralph Peters was a classmate of mine while attending the Command & General Staff College. He is the smartest guy that I have ever had daily contact with. His comments about BarryO are on the mark. Read his book, "The War in 2020" and remember that Raiph wrote it in late 1989, early 1990. The man could see the future that was coming.
  22. Hey Robert, Are you going to run the match using the IDPA DMG rules? You can also count me in as an extra SO.
  23. My Hog Killing M57. My Fight Stopping M58.
