Trust me, the sides are very, very flat. Again, just my poor photography. What appears to be waves are the reflection of tree limbs overhead. I took these pics outside trying to find better light. The polishing and the deep blue job made this one hard to capture in a picture. Depends on how we count Delta Elites. This is my third one, but its the only "current" one in my carrying rotation. And of course its in 10mm. I've come late to the cult of 38 Super. Its a great round IMHO. Why anyone would want to force a 1911 to run 9mm when the 38 Super is already there (and designed for the 1911) is a total mystery to me. The Hi-Power is the choice to make in a classic design if 9mm is to be used . Looking forward to seeing your & Magiccarpetrides' BHPs when Tim is finished with them. Among Hi-Power aficionados, your alloy is one of the holy grails !

TMF 18B, Agree with all you stated. "Murkiness" of the law doesn't do anybody any good. From my undergrad education in political science, I know that this will require the council members to do something they hate to do - - - admit that they passed a poor law. The best way to fix this will be a low-key effort that lets the professional politicans off the hook by passing a correction that is hidden inside a bigger bill.

Forgive me - - - By your question, I can only assume that you've never seen an 1980s production Delta Elite. Here is a before picture with most all of the finish gone on the slide. I kept this build simple. The custom shop had to replaced and recut the grip safety to fix the poor install by the other gunsmith. Adding the heavy duty Trijicon night sights along with the lowered and flared ejection port was done to give it the look of a Colt Special Combat Government as they were made back in the 1990s. Sorry for the poor after photos. My limited skills in photography were exceeded by the bright reflection coming off the deep blue finish as applied by the Colt Custom Shop. Good Day!
-
Well...., So I had this early production Delta Elite. The finish was a little worst for wear and a so-called 1911 smith had done a very poor grip safety install. Looked OK - - - Just didn't function! Since I always liked the looks of the original 1990s vintage Colt Special Combat Government models in all of their rubber grip and old style Trijicon night sights glory, I figure that the custom shop should be the place to send this DE for a finish & fix. Build details to follow.

As a follow-up. What the Chief expressed both in public and private is an all or nothing with the city council. His point was if you are going to limit carry - - - limit all carry in all parks. If you are going to allow carry in some parks, allow carry in all parks. Don't make exceptions because it causes confusion in regard to enforcement for his department and understanding of the law by the public. The problem is the city council which treated this issue like a zoning law matter.

WOW...., Just WOW! Our "Uncle" sent me in the mid 80s prior to a few of going on a side trip to Central America. I was too young and junior to realize how special it was..., to me it was just some more of that good Army training. I think Clint Smith might have been one of the instructors. I can't say for sure - - - but I recall that he talked so fast that I had to ask him to slow down since I talk and listen in Southern. What I do remember was the instruction being adjusted since we were some of the first guys to show up with Beretta M9s.
-
And in case anybody wonders, the Gunsite course is called 250 because it was assigned a unit of credit by the University of Phoenix. Not sure if that is still in affect. And prag..... Reckon you must be a fellow "Orange Gunsite" grad if you talked to LtCol Cooper. I recall he sold API sometime in the early-mid 90s and was "excommunicated" from instructing by the then new owners.

Hey jwolf4, Without holding the bolt in my hand, I'm out of ideas on the disassembly of this bolt. Might be time to this see if any of the good folks over in the gunsmithing section of the forum can help. I think all of our collective C&R knowledge here will only point back on how to take apart an as issued bolt.
-
It looks to cocked, which is the state it should be in having been removed from the rifle. Now turn the safety lever straight up. This is called the bolt disassembly position. Looking at the rear left side of the bolt, you will see the bolt sleeve lock plunger sticking out of the bolt sleeve. You need to push this in (aft) and unscrew the bolt sleeve in a counterclockwise direction. You will then have the bolt body in one hand, and the bolt sleeve/firing pin assembly in the other. Most Mauser models have a bolt disassembly washer in the buttstock or a hole in the buttplate, if your rifle does not you can use a plain hardwood block to continue the disassembly. Rest the firing pin tip (called the striker) on the wooden block, straight up and down. Hold the bolt sleeve in your right hand, with your thumb on top of the safety lever. CAUTION: We are dealing with spring pressure here, keep your face out of the way! Push the bolt sleeve down firmly, compressing the firing pin spring until all the coils touch each other. Now the cocking piece will be exposed at the top of the firing pin, turn it ¼ turn in either direction, and slide it off the firing pin. Your right hand and thumb will still be holding the bolt sleeve down, be careful and release the spring pressure slowly, and then you will be able to remove the bolt sleeve assembly from the firing pin. Again - - - BE CAREFUL! The spring will be under pressure as you take the bolt apart. Here is a link to a quick You Tube video.
-
Yup, that looks like a two position hunting rifle safety. The tiny screw keeps the safety on. Appears that the bolt is still cocked, so you should be able to takedown the bolt like any other Mauser.
-
Is this a true Wehrmacht sniper or a reproduction? I'm not aware of any safety function mod that was done different on the German sniper rifles over a standard 98k, but then again in the world of Mausers - - - you never know for sure. Does it have the high turret mounts like this? Or the side mount like this which also has the "winter" safety?

So in summary..... Lying is now Free Speech. But calling somebody a "Lying SOB" is Hate Speech and may be punishable by law.

Hmmmmm....... I may have heard of them, but I think it was under a different business model and name. I might be wrong, but I recall them being called Executive Security Solutions. ESS was know for providing very discreet and very low-key personal protection along with security advice and one-on-one training for the old-money types in Belle Meade and the serious money types on Music Row. I have a relative with the CMA that has worked with them. That is how I got to know them. Maybe Executive Gun Solutions is a different group, but they are based in the same general area of West Nashville. However, if it is the same group of folks I'm surprised that they now have a website. They were known to be very camera shy.

IDPA Match - Music City Tactical Shooters 7/7/12
DMark replied to HOGNUT's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Head Shots Only? Single Hits with 45ACP or 10mm? Trust my thumb with be healed up by then and I'll have my left hand out of the soft cast. -
Didn't happen to be this one in .38 Super? Because it looks like this now..... Getting back on topic - - - I've been mostly a Colt guy all my life when it comes to 1911s. The above Team Match is the only Kimber I have. However, I must admit that I have never fired a Kimber that wasn't accurate. Can't say the same about my beloved Colts.

Danny, Here is a pic of the Harrison Design Rear Sight on a RO.

Recommend that you read and study The Federalist Papers.

If you have never recommended, presented or received an award for wounds or valor - - - there is no way you can understand how Disgusting, Repugnant, and Sickening this ruling is. The founders' idea of free speech was to speak truth to power. It was not to protect those who LIE!

Thanks for the pics! Now everyone can see how tight the seam is. Brandon knows how to cut & shape metal, he is a real craftsman!
-
Post a pic of the slick way that Brandon threaded the first rifle. Its one of the best examples of how to make a "cover" for the end of the barrel when not using a suppressor. For those looking at the pic - - - The barrel has the cover in place. Its such a fine bit of gunsmithing that the barrel looks to be one solid piece!

TMF 18B, I know Chief Ansley. If you have a reference where he has made an on the record remark that he opposes HCP in the Clarksville parks, please let me know because that sounds very out of character for him. What I do know is that his stance on these type of matters is that his department will always enforce all laws as passed by the city council. Nothing More...., Nothing Less. So the solution here rest with the city council members, because only they can change the local law. Regards,

And just in an attempt to get this back on some sort of topic - - - Jones is carrying a Colt.
