It depends alot on who does the Cerakote for you. Brandon at Middle Tennessee Gunsmithing has done a couple of Cerakote jobs for me. I've been very pleased with the work and the durability of the finish. Here is a stainless Kimber Team Match 1911 that Brandon did the lower for me in HK Black. After a couple of thousand rounds and several IDPA matches - - - I can see No Wear on the finish. BTW - - - Colt now uses Cerakote as a finish on their guns. My carry weapon, Colt LW Commander. Lower in Cerakote by Colt. Not as many rounds as the Kimber above, but coming up on a year of everyday carry so alot of time in the holster. I see zero wear on the Cerakote.

  I would bet that those old pics would show SAAs and double-action revolvers.  Exposed triggers on those holsters for those type of firearms were (are) the norm.   I agree that the idea of having a covered trigger is far more current.  The idea of carrying a 1911 in Condition 1 - Cocked & Locked - really didn't come around until Cooper's Modern Technique of the Pistol.  Until then the standard for a single action auto, at least within the military, was to carry in Condition 3 - Loaded mag with an empty chamber.  I still remember getting advanced training to do the "Israeli Carry Method" where one drew the 1911 out of the USGI holster and then cycling the slide.  Reckon I'm showing my age here...., but we were so Tac-Cool back then that the term Tac-Cool hadn't been invented yet.  :pleased:   And think about the term "Glock Leg"  when somebody drawing or re-holstering a Glock shoots themselves in the leg because they place their finger on the trigger while the muzzle was pointed at their leg.  Alot of Police Departments had that problem early in the use of Glocks.  Study after study showed that in many cases, the person Glock-Legged was new to semi-autos and had always carried a revolver in the past.  The revolver's heavy double action trigger pull kept alot of folks from shooting themselves...., not so with the Glock.  AND an added problem was the habit of "prepping the trigger" of a DA revolver during the draw which many "pistoleros" of the time practiced.    But..., Getting back on topic of the OP's 1911 holster.   A major concern for me would be how well that holster retains the pistol for those "Walk-Abouts" in the woods.

  I'm running Aimpoints on my "work" ARs right now.  The standard M68 Close Combat Optic mount gives me a 1/3 co-witness.   For the EOTech you will need a raiser in order to get the 1/3 co-witness.  If you are thinking about getting a magnifying optic to support your EOTech (which sounds like a good solution to your original question), several makers have those.  I've been running America Defense Manufacturing (ADM) mounts on my 3Guns when using a 1X4 optic.  I've been real happy with their stuff.    Here is one that might fit your needs and it also takes into account an added optic behind the EOTech.   http://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/view/product/67/   BTW, which EOTech are you using?

  No need for a heat shield when you have a full length free float tube under the hand guards.   Beside - - - Who needs a mag dump when you can shoot MOA at 600 yards.    But Trust me...., my "Work" and "Social" ARs can handle the heat.  :tough:  

I always do a lower 1/3 co-witness of my BUIS using any red-dot (Aimpoint, EOTech) and my rear sight is always in the up position. Anything out past 300-400 yards - - - I seem to revert to the irons. Maybe its because of the way I started...., shooting iron sights at the 600 yard line might just be in my shooting DNA.

Use a ballpoint pen to teach folks about trigger control.   With a clicky ball-point pen press with the trigger finger until you feel the "break" and then slowly release the pressure to feel the "reset" and repeat.   I have found that this not only explains break & reset, but will train the shooter to not come off the trigger between shots.
