    Correct so long as when worn with trousers that are either 'cashmere' striped, or black and white checked.    Tail Coat and Trousers of matching fabric would be traditionally considered Evening Dress and correct only after 6:00 p.m.   ...... You folks know that I'm a slave to fashion. Its true that I once shot a match that took place after 6 PM in a tuxedo jacket, but amittingly without the cummerbund. IDPA summer concealment for me is a lightweight jacket. A cotton-seersucker that is mostly unlined is the epitome of elegance and taste for the well-dressed shootist. This replicates the light blazers, jackets and summer suits I wear when my EDC is something fullsize.

  Yup!   My first Platoon Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne was always yelling.....,   "If You Ain't SHOOTING - - - Be RELOADING - - - If You Ain't Shooting or Reloading - - - Be MOVING or DIGGING IN....!"   The man understood Combat.   His lessons still stick with me.

Last Saturday we had a wonderful turnout of first time IDPA shooters at the Gallatin match.   I had 8 New Shooters in the squad that I was the SO, more than the number of experienced shooters in my squad.  They were all good people, but each had varying degrees of gun-handling skills.  None of them did anything really unsafe, but it was a long and hard day keeping the focus on running the competitive side of the match while having to coach, instruct & mentor as the new shooter came to the line.    It was high adventure teaching malfunction drills several times during the COFs!  :eek:  This reinforced my long-held position that new shooters to IDPA should be "Off-The-Timer" with only their hits being scored.   I have always felt that IDPA needed to add the "Coach" position. These would be experienced Shooters/SOs who would assist new shooters during the match. Just as we try to have more than one SO per squad to run the stages, having a couple of coaches who's duty would be to guide and mentor the new shooters would be a great help and in affect introduction to IDPA training.    While the flyer posted for "Jason's Private Range" makes sense for those experience shooters wishing to become better at the game of IDPA...., it isn't IMHO the best thing for a person wanting to start in the sport.

  This is all Grand Policial Theater.   King (R-NY) voted for the first AWB in 1994.  He is from New York, thus a RINO on many issues, so he can do the bipartisan act on this effort.    King, along with Thompson (D-CA) will introduce the House version of whatever might be agreed to by the Senate.  Right now that deal appears to be a something that "expands" background checks for commercial gun purchases, including those made at gun shows and the internet.   Expand what?  That would be a good question since all commercial sales at shows and the internet already require a background check bt a FFL.    The bill could draw some support from Republicans if there is a focus on mental health....., assuming it gets out of committee.   Already there is a "Poison Pill" ready in the House that would include nationwide recognition of state carry permits that would be a part of this bill.  The Dems would never go for that and it would force them to vote against the bill that their beloved Dear Leader Obama wants so much.    Again..., its alot of Political Theater - - - A Big Farce to please the low-info voter on both sides of the issue!   

  Which is what will happen now.   This closure vote Will FORCE the Dems to speak against the 2A and the Bill of Rights.  Those Dems in Red states that face re-election in 2014 will be on the record in these debates.   This could be a major factor in the GOP taking back the Senate in 2014.  Dem Senators speaking against the 2A and then getting voted out in 2014.   With a GOP majority in the Senate & House, Obama becomes a Total and Complete Lame Duck for his last two years!   Make Obama powerless - - - That is how to defend the Constitution!  

Today was not a yes or no on the bill itself, this vote was a parliamentary procedure to not allow a filibuster and begin debate on the bill.   The filibuster idea was bad politics.    A filibuster would have been used as a giant political sledgehammer (via the media) against the Republicans and would cause far more long-term damage than good. Let's not forget that Democrats (and their media friends) are far better at lying than Republicans. The more votes that are taken to amend this bill, debate this bill, comment on this bill, the better. They all need to be put on record, especially regarding Feinstein's amendment on the AWB & magazine size limits. There is a very good chance that even with a scaled back version of background checks - - - this bill won't pass the final vote, which would be a total humiliation for Obama.   Even if it narrowly passes, so what - - -  Anybody see the House even working on a bill?   BUT we should definitely burn up their phone lines, fill their emails inboxes and let them know what we think of this bill.

  For everyone waiting at the Gate - - - Please Do Not pull up right in front of the gate.    If you park at the gate, that blocks any Club Member from driving up and opening the gate with our card.    Please wait in the parking lot next to the gate or pull off onto the side of the road.  Leave the short driveway into the gate open.  That way a club member can drive up to the security box and get everyone in Quick!   :)   When you depart, the gate will open as you get near it, no need for a club member to let you out.  

  Agree!  :up:   I have long been puzzled my folks who buy a standard production firearm and then won't fire them.  They keep the poor thing in the box in some sort of forlorn hope to cash-in for some unknown amount at some unknown date in an unknown future.   Reckon those are the same kind of people who buy living room furniture, then install protective plastic covers, and won't let anybody sit on it except for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  :squint:   Your Model 58 would be a perfect "Walk-About" gun.

The Model 58 conversion to 45 Colt was popular several years back, but now far less so since the Model 58 has become one of the "Grail" guns among S&W aficionados. Unless somebody like Hamilton S. Bowen did the work, the collector value has already been diminished. But diminished only in the eyes of those S&W collectors that want things untouched. The OP's Model 58 is now what I would call a "Dang..., That is of Cool" sort of deal. The conversion to 45 Colt has already freed it from the Tyrant of collectability. Re-Finish it as you wish. Its not going to be worth any more or any less than it is now worth to you - - - Your Dad's Model 58. But...., if it was mine. Back to S&W for a re-build along with their custom action job package. Then a finish in S&W's melonite finish along with a custom set of Craig Spegel custom grips in Macassar Ebony with darken S&W medallions. The only color on the gun would be a thin gold line running up the front sight ramp and new case hardening of the hammer & trigger by Doug Turnbull. Total Heart-Of-Darkness itself. :devil:

Be very careful when somebody tries to sell you a Garand along with a story about it being the M1 that his Grand Daddy carried in WWII or Korea and then brought it back home with him.   Didn't happen - - -  Unless it was Stolen!  :ugh:   M1 Garands were kept in the system.  They were never part of any offical release program to departing soldiers.   And here is an interesting fact.....   The Army still has complete inventory control and listings of every M1 Garand serial number ever produced, where they went, and what happened to them.  Its part of the reason (the other being political) why those "Korean M1s" you keep hearing about have not come back into country.  The Koreans want to sell them back to us, the Army shows that many of them are lend-leased from the US and never owned by the Koreans.  Those leased M1s should be returned to the Army who will then release them to the CMP.

Welcome to TGO Lowpower.   BTW...., Combined M1 production for Springfield and Winchester during World War II was 4,040,802 rifles.

  All that tells you is that the hammer is back, not if there is anything in the chamber.    Trust me, doing a malfunction drill after the first trigger press sends the hammer forward and there is nothing but a "click" is not something you wish to do.   Getting Back On Topic - - - -   While I think they look like Hell on a 1911, front serrations when well melted work.  Kimber seems to do that the best IMHO.

  Underhand or Overhand Press Checks using the support hand.   I hate front serrations because of the way some of them tear into my leather holsters.  My newer Colts with front serrations seem especially bad.
