Somewhere.... Just out of sight....... Divorce Lawyers are cheering this SCOTUS ruling. :stir:

Kershaw Leek or the SOG Twitch in either the II or XL models. All can be found for under $50.00 and made in the USA.

Guys I want these rifles back home also, but there is a problem...... :stir: Some of those Garands & Carbines were part of a lend-lease deal with the ROK. Those rifles are still under control of the US Military by serial number. The Koreans are wanting to sell them all back to us via an importer when some of them should be coming back to us via the CMP. So in affect this bill would allow the Koreans to select an importer who would then sell the rifles back at a higher cost to the America taxpayer who already owns some of those firearms. Ask Walmart about dealing with Korean businessmen and their custom of kickbacks which to them is just part of the deal. Now if the Garands are all -13 Winchesters and early IHCs then of course lets get them back here anyway we can! :dirty:

Well Done and a BIG Army HOOAH to the new Gunny! -
Agree 100% in regard to your comments about having the gear you need for the mission (and the strength to carry it). Your point about age is also spot-on. As a young Infantry 2LT in my early 20s, I often wondered how I was going to make it to retirement carrying such loads well into my 40s. However - - - You do realize that Amazons and Shield Maidens are literary works of the legends created in Greek mythology and Scandinavian folklore. BUT, I must admit that I have enjoyed Katheryn Winnick's role of Lagertha in the television series "Vikings." AND before anybody comes in with the Dirty Old Man comments, its because Lagertha reminds me of my head-strong and very competitive daughter.

Interesting comments Jonnin. Just one question. How much Ground Combat time do you have?

Wag - The - Dog Appears that Barry Hussein has learned to use Bill Clinton's method to construct a fake war to divert attention from his many scandals. Going into Syrian will be a catastrophe...., but BHO could care less so long as it spins the media's storyline away from his morally and legally wrong doings.

High Power & Vintage Military - Gallatin June 15th
DMark replied to DMark's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
GS455, OK...., this is going to seem down in the rulebook weeds. I'm going to refer to the NRA High Power Rifle Rulebook (Jan 2013) since your question is about a modern firearm. These are the rules used during the first match we shoot. http://competitions.nra.org/documents/pdf/compete/RuleBooks/HPR/hpr-book.pdf The M4 Carbine is not listed as one of the "service rifles" in para 3.1 of the rulebook. The M16 family is, but not the M4. The M4 is a carbine with a collapsible stock which is not allowed in the service rifle . Most Match Directors place the M4 in "Any Rifle." 3.2 Any Rifle - A rifle with no restrictions on sights or accessories including Schuetzen type buttplates and palm rests except that it must be safe to competitors and range personnel. Ammunition will be restricted to no larger than .35 caliber. (Attention is directed to safety fan limitations of various ranges. Individual ranges may further restrict ammunition.) The provisions of Rule 3.16.1 apply to this definition. 3.16.1 - The use of compensators or muzzle brakes is prohibited. (Flash hiders OK). So Bottom Line..... Bring it and Shoot it - - - We'll find a place on the line for it. So Long as it doesn't have a comp/muzzle brake. :pleased: -

You could shoot the LAR8 but it would be "Out-Of-Competition" for any consideration of awards or NRA classifications. We're all about getting folks out and shooting. Yes there will be some Very Serious and Very Good Competitors shooting the 50 shot NRA match. And during that match High Power NRA rules will be enforced for the conduct of the match. Those of us with classifications will have our scores sent forward to the NRA since its an approved match. That can be a big deal for somebody trying to move up in classification. But we'll put you on the firing line with all of us even if you want to shoot the first match with the LAR8. Again you would shoot out-of-competition, but with the goal as lefty82 said - - - to have fun, be safe and shoot X's. -

Yes to all. In fact I have shot everything you have listed at one of these matches. Our vintage match is opened to just about any "as-issued" military rifles. Since its a local fun match, shoot whatever you bring. Heck, I'm thinking about shooting a MAS 49/56 this time. When we do the sanctioned CMP match in Nov we will follow the those rules and will have six different classes. - Garand - Springfield - Vintage Military Rifle (all other manually operated U.S. and foreign rifles) - Unlimited Garand (Match Grade M1s) - Modern Military Rifle (as-issued) We are also planning to do the CMP match at 200 yards and will do Standing to Sitting and Standing to Prone! :woohoo: -

Yes, I am a GGC member - - - But I'm not the "Mark Long" listed as the contact for the match. I was doing a cut and paste of the match announcement that was sent to me. Mark Long is the Match Director. He is also the State High Power Rifle coordinator for the NRA. Send a email to him marklong@tds.net and he will put you on the list to get these notices. We always shoot these matches every third Saturday at GGC from Feb - Sep. In Oct we do a High Power clinic and in Nov we are planning on a CMP match. Trust you'll be able to make it next time. -

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I trust that this thread will spark an interest among many to look for those hidden treasures that are still out there. See You On The Firing Line!

Here is an picture from WWII. Note that the sniper on the right has fired and his scope is now in the forward position. Also note that the left sniper's rifle has a straight finger-groove stock and not a C-Stock with the pistol grip. Some researchers think that this rifle would be one that was built from a pre-war match rifle since some of the USMC shooter didn't like the pistol grip.

Fed Govt Takes Over Tennessee Festival

So long as that bus is part of a multi billion dollar public works program for mass transit built by illegal immigrants fronting for no-show union members. And of course the route for the earth-friendly solar bus has to drive over a demolished Fairground Speedways that has been turned into a Green Project and Public Arts experience. -
Here is a pic that explains how the scope moves during recoil. The scope in its firing position with the forward stop (Red Arrow) resting against the front ring. When the rifle recoils it moves under the scope and the rear stop (Yellow Arrow) limits the movement of the scope. For the next shot you run the bolt to chamber a new round and then pull the scope to the rear up against the forward stop. This was done back before "shock-proof" scopes where designed. This protected the glass in the tubes from recoil.

God Bless Bullet Proof Vest. There is a reason my wife and the mother to my LEO son has laid hands upon and prayed over his vest. BTW - - - She would do the same to my Body Armour each and every time I deployed. -
The USMC didn't use the recoil spring. Since I plan to shoot this rifle in CMP vintage snipers matches, the spring had to go. I'm still getting use to pulling the scope back into the mounts after the shot. The rings and blocks are still the CHICOM Leatherwood parts. Not too bad, the adjustment clicks are repeatable, but with a little mushy. I replaced all of the screws with USA hardware since the Chinese stuff is know to be on the soft side and tend to break. A Unertl would have been nice, but the cost of those scopes have now placed them in the world of collectors. If I break this, I'll just order another one up from Midway. Break a Unertl and there are only about 5 or 6 guys left in this world who still know how to work on them, must less have the parts. Besides, I have to say that the glass in these reproductions is very good. Did I mention that I lucked out with the barrel. Its a Star Gauged National Match. Reckon bubba knew something when he tried to make this 03 into a hunting rifle and found a good replacement barrel. Just wish he hadn't put a grinder to the end of the barrel to take the front sight rib off in an aborted attempt at a sporting profile. He almost wiped out the star gauge marking (but the number is still on the barrel). Also note the date (this photo before the re-creation). That is the Last month and year that Springfield made Star Gauged 1903 barrels. If bubba haven't attempted his "smithing" it would have been a Very, VERY Valuable barrel. My guess is that the barrel was sold via the DCM post WWII and then found its way onto this 1903 Mark I receiver.

At long last my effort to build a M1941 USMC Sniper re-creation is finished and tested. It began as this Pawn Shop find. A M1903 Mark I that bubba had D&T to the point that it had more holes than a slice of Swiss Cheese. Now after all of the "Re-Creation." Interesting what you can do with all of the left-over stuff in your spare parts box. The pre-war Springfield C Stock and the cut-down handguard I had picked up at a collectors show a while back. I already had all of the 1903 metal parts to include a complete rear sight and Nickel Steel bolt and grooved National Match trigger and sear. Ben Schade (Gunsmith at the Lebanon Gun Shop (615) 547-9600) plugged all of the old holes and then did a new D&T for the Leatherwood Malcolm 8X USMC Sniper Scope. I was thinking about doing a re-park of all the metal, but with the stock's patina I felt that a fresh metal refinish would look out of place. So I used an old trick of using a heat gun on the metal and with 0000 steel wool, rubbed hard into the remaining finish with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue Crème. Afte a week or two soaking in CLP, the finish takes on a blacken look of the old Springfield finish. Before. After. And the best part of all - - - This rifle will hold the Ten-Ring at 600 yards using match ammo. Heck, I just might have to shoot a F Class Mid-Range match with it.

But its an unsafe practice. I've seen brass-pickers so intent on getting that last piece that they zone-out and fail to hear the SO's commands. In the FTDR that I posted about the picker was following the score keeper, getting the brass as soon as it hit the ground - - - All While The Shooter Was STILL FIRING the stage!!!!!!!! Its also seems funny to me that brass-pickers would rather bend over to get brass...., but won't help to reset and tape targets. They are no help to the squad.
